Kick it here to talk about the day's activities after the Texans' massacre of the Rams.

Well, not so much massacre as much as eek.

I was asked to talk about something for work, and I needed to whip out a big word (non-repudiation) to explain a concept.

As I started to explain the concept, one of the other people cut me off and asked me wtf that meant. I looked at them and explained: “I’m trying to embiggen your vocabulary, but your non-cromulent attitude upsets me.”

As a TTP

I question that this is the real bfd. I doubt he would use a word such as “people” in this instance. He would have called the offending individual an “unfuckingbelievable idiot” or such.

I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?

Since you do not know me, my attitude, or my personality, I ask that you not project who you think I am. Thank you.

Mount Cody in round 1

by texanphil on Dec 20, 2009 3:22 PM CST up reply actions

here's my take

Ravens – need to lose 2/3 (today would help)
Jets – now need to lose 1/2
Jax – now need to lose 1/2

So Ravens are the only big hurdle left. The other two are possible.

We may need the tits to lose 1/2 also, but I’m not sure which tie-breaker applies v. them.

We win the tie-breakers against Pit and Miami if we win next weekend.

Tennessee is still a big hurdle too

Tits play SD next week.

NYJ plays Indy next week.
Jags play New England next week.
Baltimore and Pittsburgh play next week.

by TexansDC on Dec 20, 2009 3:58 PM CST up reply actions

To add to that...

SD hasn’t clinched anything yet…(a win today and next week locks up the 2nd seed and the West)
NE can clinch the East with a win next week…
Indy can still go 16-0…and I’m sure they’ll play like they did last week.

So things look favorableish…..however, the Texans must win for any of it to matter.

As far as I can tell

Oakland at Denver – root for Oakland
Cincinnati at San Diego – Push
Chicago at Baltimre – root for Chicago
San Francisco at Philly – Push
Green Bay at Pittsburgh – root for Green Bay

Pitt can't hurt us

unless we lose a game, in which case we’ll need a LOT of help.

We want the Texans to get to the playoffs without worrying about tiebreakers

Plus, we need the Steelers team to be angry when they play the Ravens.

Side note to tonight's game

Killtacular has a 1 point lead on me heading into tonight’s game, and he has Steve Smith vs. my Simeon Rice.

However, considering how many points I left on the bench, it shouldn’t even be close. Ugh.

Getting there

And where’s your new BFF DaGoat with his victory beer???

I bought some New Belgium Trippel. 7.8% alkihol. Yum.

I don’t go back to work for two weeks, the wife and kids are out, and the local bar is a Packers bar. In Austin. I know of three Packers bars and one Saints bar, but not a single Texans or cowfiskers bar. Funny, that.

Next week the AFC playoffs get off to an early start

Christmas Friday: San Diego (11-3) at Tennessee (7-7)

Sunday:
Houston (7-7) at Miami (7-7)
Baltimore (8-6) at Pittsburgh (7-7)
Jacksonville (7-7) at New England (9-5)
NY Jets (7-7) at Indianapolis (14-0)
Denver (8-6) at Philadelphia (9-5)

Next week is HUGE! And the Texans are apart of it all!

by TexansDC on Dec 20, 2009 6:53 PM CST reply actions   1 recs

I guess we’re hoping the AFC shapes up like this after next week:

Indianapolis 15-0
San Diego 12-3
Cincinnati 10-5
New England 10-5

Baltimore 9-6

Denver 8-7
Houston 8-7

Tennessee 7-8
Jacksonville 7-8
Miami 7-8
Pittsburgh 7-8
NY Jets 7-8

Dont we want Pitt to win??

If Pitt wins and everything holds to what you say, we would be tied for the 5th playoff spot with the Ravens, Broncos, and Steelers, instead of being tied for the 6th spot.

I dunno. 2 spots, 4 teams……1 spot, 2 teams…..I’d rather eliminate more people now.

by TexansDC on Dec 20, 2009 8:06 PM CST up reply actions

yes but in reality the Ravens and Steelers are only one spot if we all end up tied

because the way the tie breakers work is that they narrow it down to 1 team per division, so its kinda like 2 spots, 3 teams. Plus id rather have more WC spots available going into the final week

I've never heard of this tiebreaker rule.

I’ve seen divisions send 3 teams to the playoffs before.

I would think they would do head to head matchups…..and then conference records. I don’t see why they would eliminate from within divisions.

by TexansDC on Dec 20, 2009 9:00 PM CST up reply actions

I had never heard of it before this season either

But its real and it may help or hurt the Texans. The reason 3 teams from one division can go is because the 2nd place team in that division is the clear 5 seed and the 6th seed can be won by tie breakers. Take 2007 for example: Jax at 11-5 is the clear 5 seed, Ten is 10-6 and wins the tie breaker over the Browns.

I think its stupid in a way because we could hold tie breakers over teams out of our division but if Jax or Ten are tied with us we would be royally screwed. I think the reason they eliminate within divisions is to help clear everything up because otherwise there could be years, like this one, where there is no team that holds a tie breaker over 4 or 5 other teams.

Yeah, I looked into it.

It’s dumb and ridiculous, but true.

by TexansDC on Dec 20, 2009 11:10 PM CST up reply actions

It's only if there is a tie with 3 or more teams

I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?

by Rip Jersey on Dec 20, 2009 11:15 PM CST up reply actions

Yeh, duh

I think what I meant was, I don’t think there has been a tie for the last wildcard team spot with three or more teams

I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?

by Rip Jersey on Dec 20, 2009 11:16 PM CST up reply actions

and its only if 2 of those teams are in the same division

but i guess thats obvious

by TexasHoosier on Dec 22, 2009 12:03 AM CST up reply actions

Yes

two from the same division, at least three teams total, all tied for the same wildcard spot…the two from the same division go through the tie-breaker, so there is only one from that division; then the remaining teams go through the tie-breaker. Right, we got it.

I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?

by Rip Jersey on Dec 22, 2009 7:06 AM CST up reply actions

also, if Baltimore wins against Pitt

they will officially hold the tie breaker over us due to conference record. They are now 6-4 while we are 4-6. If it comes down to just us and the Ravens, they would hold the tie breaker with a win next week.
