Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Isn't Up To Speed On Jeremy Lin, 'Linning'

Will Kyle Shanahan Follow His Dad To Washington?

According to everyone's favorite pancake eating fool at The Chronicle, there has been further speculation that Baby Shan is going to be following his Dad to The Redskins for the 2010 season. Mike Shanahan hasn't been announced as the new Redskins Head Coach as of yet, but it is apparently close to a done deal. Especially now that he has come out and said he has no interest in coaching in Jerry World next year.

As far as if Kyle would want to leave Houston for Washington, he has declined to comment.

"We all know that's part of football and as far as Kyle or any coach I have, I want what's best for them. I think we've all known that if Mike gets back in the business, which it looks like he will, that his son coaching for him someday is very important to him."

How So?

Did I miss something? It’s entirely possible…I haven’t even had my coffee yet this morning.

I made a FanPost on this same subject last week and yesterday there were two other FanPosts on the same subject. But, hey, it’s a good topic. Let’s beat it to death, LOL!

wouldn't hurt us much.

but it is alarming, considering it will be our THIRD offensive coordinator, and we just replaced our defensive coordinator. and all the talk of replacing Koob. :/ seems like our retention rate with coaches is low… but carr was a texan for what, 3, 4 years? big fat travis? dunta? madness.

Changes?

If Kubiak stays, and I think he will, the playbook stays and the next guy comes in and very little changes. It would be nice to see someone come in from outside and bring some new ideas, but the first season, the changes would not be drastic, IMO.

I like the direction of the defense. They started out rough. They had some rookies coming in and playing right off the bat. They had a vet who was out of shape and still feeling the effects of a major injury. They had some holes at S that Pollard has aptly filled. The defense is a strong point of this team right now.

The turnovers on offense and the kicking game need to change. Not sure if a playbook is going to solve those issues. I see a new K next year, sorry, Kris Brown. I see the team doing something to acquire a goal line RB, either draft or free agent. I see an upgrade on the interior line, draft and free agent.

But regarding the OC, Shanny Jr is a Kubiak clone and this offense is Kubiak’s offense. I have no fear of Shanny Jr’s departure.

Kubes is what I meant

I still think if we drop the next two, which is entirely possible (if not likely), Kubes is gone. 7-9 is a step backward and provides no justification for McNair keeping him.

Depends on perspective

There are arguments both ways, as you know from your BlogPost you started yesterday. There is the record argument, 7-9, 8-8, or 9-7. Is it good enough. On the other side, there is a lot of ways you can say that Kubiak is a victim of players just not playing; witness the missed field goals, fumbles, piss-poor interior O-line, new DC and new system this year that is coming into it’s own now….strong arguments both ways. I think McNair keeps Kubiak even if they lose both remaining games. The only thing that might change that is if they are blow-out losses.

I see this happening

if two wins woulda taken us to the playoffs.

ie, all the stars align except us winning out.

But a loss this weekend will start the rumblings again, warranted or not.

I have a very hard time actually thinking of our D as a strong point. It just feels so weird.

by nolander on Dec 22, 2009 10:27 AM CST up reply actions

statistically probably not

but as I look at the games, I see our defense putting us in a position to win more games than our offense.

We always said if we had an average defense, our stellar offense would carry us to the playoffs.

For whatever reason, that didn’t happen this year.

Schaub is an excellent QB, but two crucial pick sixes probably cost us two games. The second half of the Cards game he was great, except for the pick six at the most crucial time of the game. That cannot be overlooked. Clutch matters. Ask Kris Brown.

I think we are 13th in yardage and 15th in scoring as a D. I wonder how good we have been since week 4 on.

by nolander on Dec 22, 2009 11:43 AM CST up reply actions

Defense definitely played well enough this season

for us to be in the playoffs, imo, in most of our losses, especially.

We've just had turnovers in crucial moments.

6 losses by 7 points or less. It really comes down to a turnover a lot of the time.

by TexansDC on Dec 22, 2009 1:54 PM CST up reply actions

perhaps i misremember..

but didn’t kubes call the plays the majority of last year..? and we had the #2 or 3 rated offense

Looking forward to not having an 8-8 year!

by BattleRedHusker on Dec 22, 2009 11:45 AM CST up reply actions

the assumption is Kubes called weeks 1-15

because he said Kyle called his first game @ #16.

My assumption is Kyle called week 1 of 2009 against the Jets.

The rest of the season is nebulous, to me anyway.

I don't think it's alarming.

It’s just circumstance, really. We knew Sherman was leaving for the A&M job. And the only reason Richard Smith was defensive coordinator in the first place was because Frank Bush was still under contract in Arizona when Kubiak took over.

I find it pretty damn strange that Kyle Shanahan would actually want to leave though. Who wants to work for their dad? If he’s really looking to pad his resume for a head-coaching gig, this just ain’t the right way to do it. For starters, it’ll look like he was just given the job by virtue of being related to the head coach instead of earning it (which is slightly an issue here as well given that Kubiak owes ol’ Mike Shanny a favor or two). Secondly, you have to go from Schaub and Andre Johnson to Jason Campbell and… Santana Moss? Not to mention he’ll wind up playing against the Philly, Dallas, and NYG defenses six times a year.

But like Rip mentioned, his departure shouldn’t really mean much. I hear he’s been pretty monumental in developing Schaub, but the offensive scheme as a whole is still Kubiak’s. I’ll be interested to see who they replace him with if he leaves, though. Maybe our WR coach if they want to promote from within? He seems to be doing a pretty nice job with those guys.

by Nashmeister on Dec 22, 2009 10:32 AM CST up reply actions

I would agree that he shouldn't leave

except Kubiak’s comment kinda sounds like they’ve already discussed it, and he has said he was at least considering it.

I think if Kyle had called the games for the 2008 season this would alarm me more than it does. I don’t even know how many games Kyle has called this year.

kubes was quoted

As saying they had never actually discussed it.

by nolander on Dec 22, 2009 11:43 AM CST up reply actions

ah

this would be significant if Kyle also called the plays all season.

But I don’t think he did.

Will Kubiak bring in another project OC? The magic 8 ball says, “All signs point to yes.”

My question is, should we really take The Comicle’s word for it? I mean, it is The Comicle.
