Some people say "If you can't beat them, join them". I say "If you can't beat them, beat them", because they will be expecting you to join them, so you will have the element of surprise.
CBS
will show Eagles/Broncos or Jets/Colts…
we at least get to c one of them

Can a smart person please spell out the current playoffs situation after the first round of games?
A Texans fan. Really. No, I'm not kidding.

As it stands right now:
Houston will get in with the following
- Win over New England
- Loss by Baltmore to Oakland
- 1 loss by the Jets.
A Bronco loss opens up more paths.
A Bronco loss to the Eagles
Would then mean we only need Baltimore or Denver to lose in Week 17.
Instead of having all our eggs in 1 basket, we’d have 2 chances.
It'd be typical Texans
for them to lose while Baltimore and Denver lost, haha, but today I shall let optimism reign supreme….then crack sarcastic jokes.
Said this last week.

+
Texans win
+
Jets loss

Also not a stretch...
The past 3 seasons, the Broncos have lost their way out of the playoff chase with December losses.
according to
playoffstatus.com, the playoff options are a little different than people are saying. The Texans need to win, and then two of the following three things need to happen:
Cincinatti beats the Jets
Raiders beat the Ravens
Chiefs beat the Broncos.
If all three happen, the Texans are the 5th seed, instead of the sixth.

Ok we won but..
again we played one half football and couldn’t stay focused i still think that kubes should be fired cuz play calling and chris brown. call me a downer but when your up 27-3 and nearly blow it there is somthing wrong and i say its coaching.

Here are the reasons:
Playcalling when team gets a lead, Defense cant play prevent, Dunta, Chris Brown, and Kris Brown

Look at the positives
We had a 27 point lead against a team that was playing with their season on the line
Foster had a great game. 19 carries 97 yards 1 TD
Andre made history having 2 straight 1500 yard seasons
We having meaningful football in week 17
And to be fair
This may be the first meaningful game (i.e. lose and you’re out) we’ve ever won in our entire history.
Ever.
So props to the Texans for that.

Thanks. I was wondering about that by the way. Do Pats fans feel they have a better chance against us in the playoffs than Denver or Baltimore if it comes down to that?
*My* opinion
I would hate to play us. If we ever play four, or even three, entire quarters, we are one of the most dangerous teams in the league. We can be exactly like the Cards last year…but with a better points differential.
A Texans fan. Really. No, I'm not kidding.
http://www.battleredblog.com
True, but we're snakebit.
We suck in high leverage situations. We demonstrated this time and again this season… just one solid performance in a clutch situation and we’d have a wild card slot virtually locked in.
thats a tough one.. i think when the texans play their top game they could hang with anyone- but as we see, they always find a way to fuck up.. baltimore always plays solid tho, and denver i think would be the easiest to beat though (even though we already lost to them) and their far worse than their record suggests—while the texans and ravens loses the heartbreakers, the broncos win them
and i was wondering, what do the texans fans think of kubiak.. are you people blamin him and want him fired like the media says is a big possibility, or sticking by him?
It’s conflicted. Most are sticking by him, but lots of Kubiak haters come out of hiding when things are going bad.
I really like the guy
But I’ve been on the fire Kubiak bandwagon for a few weeks now. It’s kind of hard to feel good about feeling this way because he is such a solid guy and a pretty good coach with serious, possibly pathological flaws.
I’ve accepted that he’s going to be around next year and I’m pulling for him to correct the problems that frustrate me so much. I really do want him to succeed.

How retarded would it be
If the Jets get into the playoffs because the last two games of the season their opponents tanked the game because they had nothing to play for giving them wins when everyone and their brother knows they’d have lost otherwise.
that would be completely ra-tarded

its great that we are getting pissed we didn’t make the playoffs, i mean now i’m smiling, we are a true NFL team, if only we could win some divisional games tomorrows game would mean NOTHING, and that’s exciting for years to come

texans win
AND 2 OF THE FOLLOWING—-
Ravens loss at oakland
Jets loss to cinci
broncos loss to chiefs
any one of those to happen is a bit of a long shot—-except i think the bengals will still try to finish the season strong, especially for henry…however the pats broncos and ravens should all be favored, so it is a longshot-

Look
As crappy as it is for the Colts to rest, they earned the right.
Meanwhile, we lost against the Jets. The Texans have nothing to complain about, they booted countless games and wrecked their own season more than anyone else ever could. We should just be thankful we have a game that matters tomorrow.

honestly, 8-8 this season is a big step, we just went into the division games unprepared
in week 17 the Texans are in the playoff talks, even if we dont win, we finish above the BESF and in my eyes, thats a good thing! haha

Well thats fine

If I have this right
If Denver comes back and wins this game today, they have the tiebreaker over us due to conference record. If Denver wins today, it means what they do next week is irrelevant with respect to us. It would also mean that both the Jets AND Ravens would have to lose.
by goingforthecorner on Dec 27, 2009 6:28 PM CST reply actions
Yup. If Denver wins then
you’re hoping for a Jets and Ravens loss.
If Denver loses, then you hope for 2 of the 3 teams to lose.
I guess its moot than cause there is no way the Broncos lose at home to the Chiefs with everything on the line.
The Broncos have said that the past 3 seasons.
It’s not guaranteed….the Broncos have to prove they won’t collapse.
Now that would've caused a media frenzy
if there was a heated Manning/Caldwell argument.

Colts fans
I feel bad for those that drove through icy weather to see their team give the game away. Damn their coaching staff!!!
As for the Texans, 9-7 is a step toward the right direction.
Lost in all of this playoff talk is this
Matt Schaub threw for over 400 yards for the 3rd straight game. He’s 411 away from 5,000 passing yards on the season.
Matt Schaub has a chance to throw for over 5,000 passing yards. That’s DAMN impressive.
Schaub threw for 286 or something like that...nowhere close to 400 he was

Not to mention coming back from that shoulder injury and playing through it.
Matt Schaub has been fantastic. I was not a fan of the trade to get him, but I’ll eat those words. The great thing is…I think he can get better. This was his 1st full season running the show, and he did it without an effective running game. We haven’t even seen how good he really can be.

Cushing may go to pro bowl they saying on NFL Network
9 tackles a sack and an int today – and a rookie !
He’s always open. He catches a lot of balls. He’s un-guardable, no matter how old he is

Reading the comment section at SB
Is nothing short of wildly entertaining. Their team is 14-1 and there are people clamoring for the front office and coaching staff to be fired.
I can still remember when the Colts sucked hard, pre-Manning. It boggles the mind that people are upset about this.

Yet they still have won more than they've lost
So the silly mistakes that needlessly gives away games can’t really be all that common or they’d have many fewer wins.
I’m not saying Kubiak is perfect, but 3 straight season of .500 or better ball isn’t so bad that the last year on his contract should be renegged and him canned. In fact, firing the most successfull coach this Franchise has had in anything better than a losing season would be silly. Fire the guy that brought the team from laughingstock to mediocrity for fear that he can’t take them the next step when the steam has shown the ability to sustain their modest success under him… Doesn’t exactly show much loyalty does it? I’m pretty sure Kubiak wasn’t hired with the expectations of championships, but now through his repeated silly mistakes he has forged that expectations into the fanbase and should be fired because he hasn’t gotten there yet?
All i’m saying is that if you were told when Kubiak was hired that after 4 years he’d lead the team to 3 straight .500 or better records and playoff contention in the 4th, no one would have said he wasn’t worth the job or that he shouldn’t be kept longer than those 4 years. I just think people should appreciate what they have and show a little more loyalty to a coach that exceeded all of our hopes from 4 years ago.
Who do you think has a more valid basis for complaint?
People complaining about Caldwell or people complaining about Kubes? My point was that people complaining about Caldwell on the basis of one half of one game are, to be polite, overreacting.
If you looked at what Kubes has done out of context you might be impressed. Heck, I predicted 8-8 at the beginning of the season and I said that I would be happy with 9-7. But if you look at the games in context, it’s hard not to be disappointed with where we are because by all rights we should have won more.
And I’m loyal to the team win or lose, not the coach. I criticize the coach, the players, the management etc because I’m loyal to the team.
Proudly supporting the Qatar National Falconry Team since December 6, 2009.

perfect scenario all around.
Colts lose the chance for the perfect season, and even if we don’t make the playoffs, 5-3 on the road (team record) we continued our dominance over the dolphins (5-0 all-time) shaubby, AJ, meco & cush all have a shot at the pro bowl, and we can finish a WINNER for the first time ever. i would say a very very successful season for the texans, with plenty to build on for next year.
