Texans 27, Dolphins 20

One astoundingly beautiful half, and one half that I wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy. Final numbers are here. Vent/share as you see fit in the Comments below and/or as the other games that could impact the Texans' postseason chances (huh?) progress.

No reason to vent.

Houston win + Baltimore loss = Week 17 is meaningful!

Let's go Colts and Eagles! Make it happen!

Texans are at 8-7…and have something to play for next week!

CBS

will show Eagles/Broncos or Jets/Colts…

we at least get to c one of them

by EveryHoustonTeamRox! on Dec 27, 2009 3:13 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

As it stands right now:

Houston will get in with the following

- Win over New England
- Loss by Baltmore to Oakland
- 1 loss by the Jets.

A Bronco loss opens up more paths.

by TexansDC on Dec 27, 2009 3:17 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

What are...

the additional paths with a Den loss?

Yay, sports.

by MDC on Dec 27, 2009 3:18 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

A Bronco loss to the Eagles

Would then mean we only need Baltimore or Denver to lose in Week 17.

Instead of having all our eggs in 1 basket, we’d have 2 chances.

It’s not a stretch. The Raiders have wins over the Bengals, Eagles, and Steelers. They also play well at home. It’s doable.

The Broncos losing to Philly would open up another pathway as well. We want all the chances we can get.

according to

playoffstatus.com, the playoff options are a little different than people are saying. The Texans need to win, and then two of the following three things need to happen:

Cincinatti beats the Jets
Raiders beat the Ravens
Chiefs beat the Broncos.

If all three happen, the Texans are the 5th seed, instead of the sixth.

Look at the positives

We had a 27 point lead against a team that was playing with their season on the line

Foster had a great game. 19 carries 97 yards 1 TD

Andre made history having 2 straight 1500 yard seasons

We having meaningful football in week 17

True, but we're snakebit.

We suck in high leverage situations. We demonstrated this time and again this season… just one solid performance in a clutch situation and we’d have a wild card slot virtually locked in.

by OremLK on Dec 27, 2009 4:48 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

seriously…the 4 game losing streak in the middle of the season was a crucial blow..all of them were winnable, and any of them would put andre and co. into the playoffs

thats a tough one.. i think when the texans play their top game they could hang with anyone- but as we see, they always find a way to fuck up.. baltimore always plays solid tho, and denver i think would be the easiest to beat though (even though we already lost to them) and their far worse than their record suggests—while the texans and ravens loses the heartbreakers, the broncos win them

But I’ve been on the fire Kubiak bandwagon for a few weeks now. It’s kind of hard to feel good about feeling this way because he is such a solid guy and a pretty good coach with serious, possibly pathological flaws.

I’ve accepted that he’s going to be around next year and I’m pulling for him to correct the problems that frustrate me so much. I really do want him to succeed.

If I have this right

If Denver comes back and wins this game today, they have the tiebreaker over us due to conference record. If Denver wins today, it means what they do next week is irrelevant with respect to us. It would also mean that both the Jets AND Ravens would have to lose.

Not to mention coming back from that shoulder injury and playing through it.

Matt Schaub has been fantastic. I was not a fan of the trade to get him, but I’ll eat those words. The great thing is…I think he can get better. This was his 1st full season running the show, and he did it without an effective running game. We haven’t even seen how good he really can be.

Reading the comment section at SB

Is nothing short of wildly entertaining. Their team is 14-1 and there are people clamoring for the front office and coaching staff to be fired.

I can still remember when the Colts sucked hard, pre-Manning. It boggles the mind that people are upset about this.

Calling for a rookie coach's head when his team loses its first game in week 16 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Calling for a fourth-year head coach’s head when his team repeatedly makes silly mistakes and needlessly gives games away.

Just sayin’.

Yet they still have won more than they've lost

So the silly mistakes that needlessly gives away games can’t really be all that common or they’d have many fewer wins.

I’m not saying Kubiak is perfect, but 3 straight season of .500 or better ball isn’t so bad that the last year on his contract should be renegged and him canned. In fact, firing the most successfull coach this Franchise has had in anything better than a losing season would be silly. Fire the guy that brought the team from laughingstock to mediocrity for fear that he can’t take them the next step when the steam has shown the ability to sustain their modest success under him… Doesn’t exactly show much loyalty does it? I’m pretty sure Kubiak wasn’t hired with the expectations of championships, but now through his repeated silly mistakes he has forged that expectations into the fanbase and should be fired because he hasn’t gotten there yet?

All i’m saying is that if you were told when Kubiak was hired that after 4 years he’d lead the team to 3 straight .500 or better records and playoff contention in the 4th, no one would have said he wasn’t worth the job or that he shouldn’t be kept longer than those 4 years. I just think people should appreciate what they have and show a little more loyalty to a coach that exceeded all of our hopes from 4 years ago.

Who do you think has a more valid basis for complaint?

People complaining about Caldwell or people complaining about Kubes? My point was that people complaining about Caldwell on the basis of one half of one game are, to be polite, overreacting.

If you looked at what Kubes has done out of context you might be impressed. Heck, I predicted 8-8 at the beginning of the season and I said that I would be happy with 9-7. But if you look at the games in context, it’s hard not to be disappointed with where we are because by all rights we should have won more.

And I’m loyal to the team win or lose, not the coach. I criticize the coach, the players, the management etc because I’m loyal to the team.

Proudly supporting the Qatar National Falconry Team since December 6, 2009.

perfect scenario all around.

Colts lose the chance for the perfect season, and even if we don’t make the playoffs, 5-3 on the road (team record) we continued our dominance over the dolphins (5-0 all-time) shaubby, AJ, meco & cush all have a shot at the pro bowl, and we can finish a WINNER for the first time ever. i would say a very very successful season for the texans, with plenty to build on for next year.
