Schaub Plans To Play Sunday And Andre Johnson Wants To Retire a Texan

Everyone can stop worrying about Andre Johnson possibly becoming frustrated and wanting out of Houston. On 610 AM this morning, he stated his desire to be here and retire here.

Matt Schaub also said that he would rehab his injured shoulder and plans to start on Sunday against Seattle.

You can hear the podcasts here. Certainly worth a listen.

Good news

Because I fully believe Rex Grossman is capable of losing to the Seahawks.

Respect from the other side
from the Jacksonville Observer – “Fortunately, for Houston, Schaub returned before the half and led his team on a 10-play, 82-yard drive, which resulted in a Chris Brown touchdown run. Throughout the second half, Schaub utilized Andre Johnson, Kevin Walter, David Anderson and Ryan Moats. Schaub is a special talent.”

I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?

I love Matt and all...

I just wish he was a little faster with his feet and his decisions. I guess you can’t have it all, though.

He has got to learn to get rid of the ball sooner. I really believe that injury is on him for hanging on to it.

He has shown that he CAN run for a few in the last few games, he needs to develop that more as well.

Thx.

Congrats on winning the division and snatching the bye away from BFD.

If all goes well, i’ll be seeing you in the finals I think.

Scratch that.

If I win this week, we’re going against each other next week. I have a feeling that it’s gonna be as close as the last one.

by Jordann on Dec 8, 2009 11:42 AM CST up reply actions

Ya probably.

I am actually pretty nervous about Brees as my QB now…..what if they decide to sit him or play him less….I will be screwed lol.

A spanking indeed.

If Brady didn’t throw those interceptions, that would’ve been game.

But since Brady stole Schaub’s trademark of one interception per game, expect at least a -2 every week from brady.

by Jordann on Dec 8, 2009 12:01 PM CST up reply actions

please no

just throw it away.

Schaub scrambling is like Chris Brown throwing. Stuff we don’t need to see to win.

In a more serious note.

I agree. But we still need to improve our offensive line. Some of those intermediate to deep routes need some time to develop.

After the shoulder injury, he started releasing the ball quicker. You think he can keep that up?

by Jordann on Dec 8, 2009 11:29 AM CST up reply actions

after the injury

he also scrambled, and fell on it!

huh?

by texanphil on Dec 8, 2009 11:30 AM CST up reply actions

Kinda. He did a good job of rolling onto his back.

by nolander on Dec 8, 2009 11:35 AM CST up reply actions

Based on what I heard Eric Winston say, I would agree

Winston said it was a quick three-step drop pass and that the blocking scheme is designed just as it happened, although, both tackles whiffed at their respective cut blocks.

That being said, it raises the subject that I have heard and seen discussed, why doesn’t Kubiak allow Schaub to audible when the defense doesn’t look good, because the cornerbacks were playing up on the receivers and the receivers weren’t open when Schaub completed his three steps. If he could have checked off to another play, it might have been different.

I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?

by Rip Jersey on Dec 8, 2009 11:54 AM CST up reply actions

Oh, there is no question that Matt got himself hurt on that play.

You can see Duane cut block the end, and the only reason you cut block on a pass play is because it’s a 3-step and throw. Matt didn’t throw it, and the DE’s got up and smacked him. He’s got to learn he can’t do that.

Yes, he should have at least thrown the incompletion

I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?

by Rip Jersey on Dec 8, 2009 12:19 PM CST up reply actions

There's more than just the QB to blame on a play like that

He took 3 steps, had immediate pressure and no open reciever. The line didn’t provide adequate protection even for a 3step pass, the recievers didn’t get the seperation they should have, and finaly yes Schaub held onto the ball to see what would develop rather than throwing it away. For the most part, Schaub doesn’t hold on to the ball that long, at least nowhere near as noticeable as say Big Ben, but a combination of a weak interior line and the lack of a reliable safety valve reciever he had in Daniels, and you get the appearance of a QB holding on to the football for too long. If he didn’t though, and threw the ball away in those situations, he’d probably be a near 50% passer this year, so I have a hard time nitpicking on it.

by Bryan72076 on Dec 8, 2009 4:40 PM CST up reply actions

Brown averages something like 3.9 seconds on a sack. If thats not Schuab holding on the ball too long too often then I don’t know what is. Ben is a bad comparison because he can get out of a sack and make a play, Schuab can’t.

by nolander on Dec 8, 2009 4:52 PM CST up reply actions

Watch the play again, holmes.

He held onto it when it should’ve been gone. On a quick pass like that, you can pretty much decide where you’re going with the pass once that third step hits the ground, just based off of where the D is lined up. If the guy he wants pre-snap isn’t there, he’s gotta chuck it out of bounds or into the turf near an eligible teammate.
Cut blocks are in no way meant to be sustained, so this one is 100% on Schaub, unless you can prove that a WR ran the wrong route, which caused him to hesitate. Even then, though, the ball’s gotta be gone on step #3.

Not sure about faster with his feet

But I am sometimes amazed at his lack of pocket awareness. I don’t know if that’s the same thing, but several times this season I can recall him rolling right into a guy that had been blocked out of the play.

regardless of who the coach is next year, I think Matt is our man at QB without a shadow of a doubt. He might make a few mistakes over the course of the season, but he gives us alot of stellar play and is showing more and more toughness and a desire to be on the field.

accuracy

is hard to find.

You can’t coach quickness of the feet, but he could get rid of the ball quicker.

And -$1mil for each pick 6. Put it in his contract.

Part of me is happy

that AJ wants to stay in Houston; our offense is gobs worse without him.

Another part of me wants AJ to be successful. Sometimes I wonder if he can do that on the Texans.
