BREAKING NEWS: Steve Slaton Done For Season

According to Adam Schefter's Twitter feed:

Another loss for Houston: Texans RB Steve Slaton will be placed on injured reserve -- out for the year.

If I wasn't already dead inside, I'd cry. Get ready for another month of Chris Brown, coupled with the continued irrational refusal to give Ryan Moats the lion's share of the work. Oh, wait...here come the tears after all.

Numbness spreadinng thoughout his body......or whatever.

Steve Slaton might be done with football all together.

Anyway, this is not a huge blow in terms of production. Maybe now we will get to see how Foster is looking….not that I expect he is looking all that great.

wtf, done with football all together? What exactly is wrong with him?

Now being reported from the Mothership

http://www.houstontexans.com/news/Story.asp?story_id=5895

Just put in Foster and spell him with Moats. We’re officially playing for 2010.

Also, get Diles and Dunta out and spell them with Xavier and McCain.

Xavier Adibi can't tackle though!

Only on 4th and goal, shall he be allowed to ply his trade!

HA!

Well, yeah, but Diles clearly isn’t the answer, either. I’d prefer to see what we’ve got in Adibi in an extended trial.

what are your reasons for not liking Diles? Hes great at defending the run, which are the only downs he plays on. He comes out for all the nickel packages.

by DaGoaT on Dec 9, 2009 9:58 AM CST up reply actions

The numbers

Aside from his 17 tackles the last two games, he only has 30 in his other 10. Against the run, ProFootballFocus has him ranked 44th out of 49. He has been far better against the pass, admittedly, but he has not been good against the run. In addition, he has 1 FF and 1 PD, so he’s not really making plays, either.

Even Morlon Greenwood was this “productive” last year.

by bigfatdrunk on Dec 9, 2009 10:10 AM CST up reply actions

you have to factor in games like both Colts games, when we were in nickel nearly the entire game. Also, how many times the running play is to the strong side and hence hes not there for an attempt on the play. I honestly cant think of many times when he was run at and plain out missed the play. Im sure there are some, but I dont remember it being a problem. the numbers in themselves are subjective, and we have to keep in mind hes on the weak side, and playing next to 2 really good linebackers.

by DaGoaT on Dec 9, 2009 10:14 AM CST up reply actions

It's why I compared him to Greenwood

Cuz, yeah, he’s gonna get pulled in nickel time.

by bigfatdrunk on Dec 9, 2009 10:17 AM CST up reply actions

Except...

Greenwood was obviously terrible last year in a Petey/Busing sort of way, whereas Diles just goes under the radar. He doesn’t make plays, but he doesn’t usually screw up either.

by Nashmeister on Dec 9, 2009 11:01 AM CST up reply actions

Agree

But not sucking really isn’t a strategy for long-term success, either.

At least you can’t fumble on the IR (or can you?)

Any chance that

we’ll sign a RB out of the trash pile FA pool?

by Jordann on Dec 9, 2009 10:14 AM CST reply actions

I'd Be Surprised

Maybe to the practice squad, but I doubt any changes will be made to the active roster. It’s C. Brown, Moats, and Foster, in all likelihood.

Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

Why the fuck do we need 4 RBs? Have the given up on Foster without even having given him a single carry?

by nolander on Dec 9, 2009 12:11 PM CST up reply actions

Henry + Brown

=1 RB

So we’re still carrying 3.

by texanphil on Dec 9, 2009 12:57 PM CST up reply actions

I said after the first two failures at the 1 yard line

why not hand him the ball, just once.

I like the idea a lot. I wish they’d pay me to make the decisions.

Smushiak will take us to the playoffs in 2009.

by texanphil on Dec 9, 2009 1:04 PM CST up reply actions

Me too.

They can even pay me in season tix and cases of beer.

I would be just fine with that.

Casey was able to run the ball back when he was playing at Rice. Yes it was out of the shotgun and yes it was out of the wildcat. But those teams knew that Casey was gonna get the ball when they’re in that formation, yet he still got 6-7 yds per carry.

by Jordann on Dec 9, 2009 1:10 PM CST up reply actions

I wouldn’t mind a wee bit o Wild Cat in our offense. I would be much more comfortable with the ball in Casey’s hands then in CBs.

i dont know how he’s doing now. he was cut before the season started.

I think Johnson had surgery

On his stiff-arm gone limp…viagra implant, I think….

I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?

Tell me about it.

Maybe Dunta paid them. I mean, he is making about $9 mil off of us this year so whats a couple of hundred thousand bucks.

by Jordann on Dec 9, 2009 11:26 AM CST up reply actions

Eh.

If this had happened ten weeks ago, I would have been worried. But since we have no running game to speak of anyways, this ain’t exactly a major blow. Can we just run five-receiver sets from now on?

by Nashmeister on Dec 9, 2009 11:03 AM CST reply actions

He was nice to have as a dump off option for Schuab, but its not like the screen game has been great lately.

by nolander on Dec 9, 2009 11:10 AM CST up reply actions

FOSTER! FOSTER! FOSTER!

Please Gary? If you play Foster and not Chris Brown then I’ll officially start driving the Kubes in 2010 bandwagon. Just please no more Double Agent.

by TexansDC on Dec 9, 2009 11:19 AM CST reply actions

Moats please

So should we root for a Chris Brown fumble early? Maybe between the 40’s where it won’t hurt so much. So we can get a lot of Moats the rest of the season?

Smushiak will take us to the playoffs in 2009.

by texanphil on Dec 9, 2009 11:23 AM CST reply actions

We should root for Chris Brown to have a sudden attack of conscience and resign his position in favor of someone who plays football.

Chris Brown Fumbling

Wouldn’t matter. For reasons totally unclear to me, he can turn the ball over without repercussion. If any other RB does it, he’s buried. But not Chris Brown.

Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

by Tim on Dec 9, 2009 11:37 AM CST up reply actions

Here's the only reason Chris Brown is in the game

According to Owen Daniels on his radio show, he’s a better blocker at HB. Well, that’s not helping our run game if our HB is blocking

I would challenge you to a battle of wits, but you appear to be unarmed.

by The Night Owl on Dec 9, 2009 4:39 PM CST up reply actions

we pass every down

it may be the best strategy.

We need Schaub more than a running game.

Smushiak will take us to the playoffs in 2009.

by texanphil on Dec 9, 2009 9:41 PM CST up reply actions

Ah, I had the same theory on Carr.

I thought he must have had pictures of Bob McNair at a gay-bar or something like that. There was no other explanation for allowing him to drive our team into the ground for so many years.

by Nashmeister on Dec 9, 2009 11:28 PM CST up reply actions

Maybe

We should put Mario on IR as well. He can have a ton of time to heal up, maybe have surgery if it is required. This way Barwin can get a lot more experience.

brett favre

because you can never talk about brett favre too much…

What’s the difference between Kubiak not saying anything about Steve’s injury, and what the Jets were fined for earlier this season? Didn’t he have an injury that didn’t make it to the official report, and they got fined?

Smushiak will take us to the playoffs in 2009.

by texanphil on Dec 9, 2009 1:46 PM CST up reply actions

The big question is to when did this start and when did Slaton finally tell the coaches?

The difference I believe is that they fully expected him to play? If they thought it would have prevented him from playing they had to disclose it?

by nolander on Dec 9, 2009 2:00 PM CST up reply actions

Thank God we have Chris Brown

Or we would have absolutely nobody to fumble for us.*
