Eugene Wilson Signs Three-Year Deal With Texans?

No details yet, but John McClain's latest blog entry has this bit of information:

The Texans released defensive end Anthony Weaver, offensive tackle Ephraim Salaam and safety Will Demps today. They also reached an agreement on a three-year contract with starting free safety Eugene Wilson.

I'm VERY interested to see what kind of money Wilson received from Smithiak. The fact that a deal was reached this quickly makes me believe/hope that both sides were reasonable, and that Wilson didn't attempt to price himself out of what should have been a pretty defined market for the Texans. More to follow as information become available.

Yeah, the timing of the deal has me thinking the same. I guess Wilson wanted to stick around, which is good since he comes from such great teams in the past. Gives you the sense that he thinks we can be winners.

I like it.

Sounds like a Drama-free signing too…

Don't know where else to put this...

But I just suddenly decided I will be ordering a custom Vonta Leach jersey before this season.

I'm with you

i almost did a couple of weeks ago bu i went with DeMeco instead. Still thinking about Leach though.

Let's get the Texans a better fight song.

Vonta Jerseys

Are only acceptable if you replace “Leach” with “Coke Machine” across the back.

Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

So....

No Malcolm Jenkins?

Not so fast

The whole upside of Jenkins is that he can rotate around. Plus, if Wilson was reasonable than he might be a backeup to a rookie…I hope.

Let's get the Texans a better fight song.

Good move, Wilson upgraded our defense

We would still like to get more of an impact player for the future, but Wilson played well last year. His instincts in both pass coverage and run support were a pleasant surprise. Contract must be cap friendly or it would not have come down this early.

Nice....

Wilson was really the only bright spot in the secondary last year. Im glad to have him back….

Now give Demeco the money he deserves. I was really suprised when he came out about wanting a new deal. I was really suprised by the fact that he was getting paid so little. The last thing we need is our defensive leader holding out. He deserves a new contract. There is no reason he should be getting paid under a million this year….

Good news...

If the price was right. I trust it was but I really want Demeco to get a new deal, he deserves to be one of the highest paid MLB’s in the league
Just saw this on NFL.com too

Basically they’re gonna add $4 mil in cap space for each team for 2009. This might give Rick Smith some more wiggle room to sign Demeco and Dunta(?)

wilson will...

play what position? who is currently in the other?

I think there will be some really good SLB talent

available in the second if the front office feels like we have the safety positions locked up
