Free Agency Craziness!
Ladies and gentlemen, its 1:41 p.m Central time, and already crazy things have gone down, things that very much affect the Texans. All o' that after the break.
Haynesworth, the fat bastard, is gone from the AFC South!!! In all of his general managing glory, Dan Snyder of the Redskins signed The Face Stomper to a 7 year, $100 million dollar deal, with $41 million guaranteed. I am happy. The Skins also signed DeAngelo Hall for $54 million... why?
The Patriots sign Fred Taylor. Because an old, injury prone back is exactly what they need to get back to the big game.
Sorry, Chris. Bart Scott agrees to sign with the Jets, following Rex Ryan to New York. The deal is somewhere around $8 million a year, $1 million a year more than what the Ravens offered him.
The Ravens also sign CB Dominique Foxworth to a multiyear deal worth about $6.8 million a year.
The Philadelphia Eagles signed the older brother of current right guard Shawn Andrews, Stacy Andrews, from the Cincinnati Bengals. The terms are not available at the moment. I think it would be awesome to play next to my brother at the pro level. If I had a brother.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers acquire Browns TE Kellen Winslow for an undisclosed amount of draft picks.
The Dolphins sign Gibril Wilson to a 5 year, $27.5 million dollar deal to go along with the 20 million dollar deal they just inked their other starting safety, Yeremiah Bell. It looks like they have given up on former first round pick Jason Allen.
KC acquires Mike Vrabel from the Pats for an undisclosed number of draft picks. You now know the Pats are looking for a 3-4 OLB, as KC tries to acquire pieces to fit its new 3-4. I can't find the link, but it was just reported on ESPN.com
Cardinals tender Gabe Watson. I guess our NT is coming via draft (PLEASE!)
Last, but definitely not least, the Colts sadly, sadly, sadly resign C Jeff Saturday to a 3 year deal with no disclosed cash at the moment.
I will keep this post updated with more stuff every 12 hours or so. Feel free to post updates if you catch 'em.

Re: Smith
I’m still not sure I’m excited about him as a bookend for Mario. What does everyone else think?

Better than what we'd get in the draft...
Look, the only guy worth drafting in the first for the Texans who’s a DE is Ayers from Tennessee. Honestly, if we can pick up Smith for a reasonable price in FA (and that’s a HUGE if), then that frees us up to pick up an OLB in the first. Smith has at least shown something in his years and seems to be hitting his peak at 28. Add to that he’s never played alongside a DE like Mario and we might be looking at a solid LDE who can get 5-10 sacks a year for us. I’d rather pay for Smith in FA if the price is right than waste our 1st rounder on a guy who has only been a one year starter in college.

Smith
I like smith, but I think we need a big time pass rusher opposite mario to take some pressure of him and we need a space eating dt to free up amobi and let Xavier, Demeco, and Diles do their thang

yea
i think our LBs are good enough that we sholdnt draft one in the first…go with a DE…our front 7 would look great
id like to go Michael Johnson and the like Chung or Smith in 2nd round or go Malcolm Jenks for S and someone like English, Ayers, Kruger, even possibly Johnson in the 2nd round

My 3 AM update
As the first day of Free Agency closes, here’s a couple deals that went on after the initial burst.
One of the best young centers in football, Ravens Jason Brown signs with the Rams. Absolute immediate upgrade for them.
The Jets get Lito Sheppard for a 5th round pick and a conditional 2010 pick. That was really cheap – cheaper than I thought really.
Saints resign ILB Johnathan Vilma. I thought he was going to play the FA market more, and his coming back helps the Saints a lot.
And, almost as bad as seeing Ray Lewis leave the Ravens, Brian Dawkins is no longer an Eagle. He signed with the Denver Broncos today.
More updates later when I’m not so tired.

Good job Riott
I was hoping that Tampa would have snagged Vilma because that would have caused the Saints to possibly reach for a LB in the first like Lauranaitus. Oh well.
Let's get the Texans a better fight song.
