Joel Dreessen Gets Three Year Contract; Owen Daniels Watches
Zuh? Joel Dreessen is awarded a three (3) year contract, yet Owen Daniels continues to wait for his multiyear deal. I like Dreessen; he's a fine backup and a special teams stalwart, so I'm glad he's coming back. Still...Rick Smith? Can we turn our attention to locking up one of the best tight ends in the NFL now? While you're at it, go ahead and make DeMeco and Dunta happy as well. Thanks in advance for your prompt attention to these matters.

Agreed, but...
Look, he signed a three year deal for 3.6 mil. In the world of football, that’s nothing. I agree with you that we should lock up our superstars, believe me, i’m losing sleep over it. But still, this was a very easy deal to get done and OD, Demeco, and Dunta are extremely difficult deals to get done, especially in this market. Did you know Dunta turned down $23 mil guaranteed? I can only wonder what Demeco turned down. It’s gonna be tough getting these guys re-signed and a real test for Rick Smith. I gotta be honest, I’m very glad I’m not in his shoes, he has a bigger responsibility with these 3 than any of us could imagine, especially considering that they’re not gonna take reasonable offers.

Agreed
Though I think this certainly seems like a head scratcher, it’s no easy task locking up your stars (especially ones who overrate themselves coming off of career threatening injury’s ahem dunta).

Man..
I’m already pumped about next season, but these tales of unhappiness from my favorite players, yes if they wear a Texans uniform then they could be considered a favorite of mine, but I want these guys happy. I want players who want to do what it takes to get this team to be one of the league’s best. I know they deserve the money and I know football is a business, But Dammnit, everyone on both sides need to get some things done.
GO TEXANS!!!!

I haven't heard anyone say that Daniels is unhappy
…so I’m not worried about that.
It’s easy to get wrapped around the axle right now, but let’s all hold off until training camp. I suspect this will all be in the rear view mirror by then.

I'm ok with keeping our options open
the writing is on the wall for playoffs in 2009 or the rumblings will start to intensify.
We need to stay lean and see what superstar we can get to take us to the next level. Then we can sign these guys with whats left. Then he can use the “we don’t have that much under the cap” excuse.
Smushiak will take us to the playoffs in 2009.

Probably just an easy deal to negotiate so it went fast.
Daniels would be a bit harder to negotiate with.
Dunta.. I’m glad we franchised him. I bet Smith was shocked when he turned down $23 million guaranteed- I’d have franchised him on the spot, right to his face after that.

The FO is doing a great job so far. They’re keeping their options open and finding the right time to spend their money.

i love dreesen in madden
not that this has any bearing in real life, but the texans have a goal line play where he always gets open in the end zone and so in franchise mode he always ends up with 20-30 td catches on the season

David Anderson
not sure if anyone mentioned this, but DA got an offer from the Broncos.
Anyone think we’re gonna match it?
I know he can’t (and shouldn’t) dance, but I like him at WR4. If we deal Jacoby McFumble we may need him at PR1 also.

Re: Anderson
Considering that it’s not a big money deal and we’d only get a seventh-rounder back in return, I would think Smithiak would match.
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

Don’t see why everyone hated on him for it…
