Just saw on NFLN website the Texans signed DE Antonio Smith to a 5 yr 35Mil dollar deal with 12.5Mil gauranteed. I am hearing rumblings of Smiths' potential of becoming Weaver#2 for the Texans.
I think Smith will be a good fit on our D-line, he has way more upside than Weaver. He comes from a 4-3 scheme instead of coming and attempting to convert from a 3-4 OLB. I think he stood out and played well for the Cards especially in the playoffs.
Now the question has to be asked. When do we target a DE in the draft? Smith is locked up for 5yrs, so does that put our drafting a DE on the backburner or make it less of a pressing issue? IMO, we should still look at a DE but not on the first day. I am hoping we take an OLB or trade down for better value and extra picks. Like Smithiak says you cant have enough draft picks.
Now that one of our needs has been somewhat addressed. I would like Smithiak to make my man( the best damn LB on this earth) #59 happy and give him his dues!!! I hope he isnt pissed cause other guys are getting paid while he is still waiting in the cut for his cheddar. What is our FO planning to do to take care of our guys? Do they change their attention to making our guys happy? What moves does anyone see us making on the defensive side in FA still ?
