tyson jackson
if somehow we can trade our 1st for a 1st and 3rd and then select tyson jackson OR Michael Johnson (would rather have him) later in the first and select another need in the 3rd (BIG RB) that would be a pretty good thing…maybe we should trade sage rosencopter and get we can get for him

Michael Johnson
I am still in love with the thought of making him the bookend to Super Mario, even if we overplay our hand and take him at 15. Is that the whiskey talking?
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

I've always liked him too
But Johnson’s motivation problems scare a lot of people whose opinions I trust. I think he is one of those characters tht no one can deny his physical talents, but it’s a little bit of a crap shoot. If they picked him after trading back I don’t think I would be too upset for gambling, but I would if they took him at 15.
Let's get the Texans a better fight song.

The guy looks like he should be a dominating player.
His physique and athletic ability are very impressive. I would like to have him too, but like EHTRox and TT have pointed out, he looks to be available if we trade down to the mid 20’s. If McShay is correct projecting the 8 defensive players that will be off the board at 15, AND Smith cannot pull off the trade down then I would not be disappointed with taking Johnson. He looks to be a potential head case, but his prowess is very intriguing. Possibly the right coaching can allow him to realize his full potential. Will be interesting to see what he does at the combine. I would hope that he is on our radar.

The same coaching
That has made so many defenders become dominant here? Color me skeptical.

We just got a new D line coach and promoted Bush to the head spot
I really want to be a glass half full guy. Smithiak are not idiots. They picked Kollar and promoted Bush. I want to believe those 2 can do for the D Line what Gibbs Sr did for the O Line last year. Johnson is a physical specimen. If he gets the right coaching and mindset, he can be a very effective player. Lot of ifs there, and you have a right to be skeptical, but the optimist in me believes our coaching staff got better in the last month.

I realize we've got new faces on the defensive staff
But I still have a hard time being a glass half full guy. At least in the thought that we can take a guy who has the kind of personality issues and turn him into a stud. Let’s start small; can we get production from Travis Johnson and Anthony Weaver, while getting Okoye back on track?

Okoye is definitely a project with a + outlook possible, on the other hand
I’m afraid that Weaver is a lost cause and would be surprised if TJ can be anything better than so-so; and that’s a real vote of no confidence because this is his contract year, and plenty of guys can put together a fine season when a second contract is on the line.

Johnson
I’ve been high on him for a while and I think this would be the perfect situation for him (i.e. he doesn’t have to be THE man on the, he just has to do his thang and get after the QB). Considering there was early season talk of him as a Top 10 pick, pending a good showing at the Combine, I’m fine with him at 15. Hell, I consider him preferable to a LOT of the players the mocks have us taking.
Yay, sports.

Re: Tyson Jackson
From what I know about Tyson Jackson, he’s a big run stuffing DE, like Anthony Weaver. If we’re going to draft another Anthony Weaver, I’d rather draft Jarron Gilbert in a later round. Personally, if we trade back, I’d rather pick up Mack or Unger (both are Centers) than Tyson Jackson

Excited!!!
I am just overly excited at the prospect of a Draft Day Trade that Smithiak would be sure to pull of for a couple of extra picks. I am in Iraq now due back to the States in 3 weeks and I’m planning on attending the Draft Day Party at Reliant Stadium. So I think if Brown or Maualuga arent there at 15 we trade down to the mid 20s and get either Johnson or Cushing if he is still there. I am loving the S from W. Michigan in the second though.
If you aint Texans then F@!# You!!!!

The American people owe a debt of gratitude which can never be repaid to all of the men and women in the armed forces
who are risking their lives in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere to make America a safer place to live. God bless you houstonbola and I hope you arrive home safe and sound.
If we can move down, add a 3rd or 4th rounder, and still get Johnson, Cushing or Tyson Jackson with our #1, and add Louis Delmas, the WMU FS in the second that would be a fine start to the ’09 draft. I think SS Patrick Chung from Oregon may also be a decent selection in the 2nd. Both could provide a decent balance of run support and pass coverage.

Jackson?
I keep reading two things about him—1, that he’s Anthony Weaver, and 2, that we might take him. This makes absolutely no sense to me.
In fact, I’m a bit confused altogether about our need at defensive end. Initially, I thought we would look for a smaller speed rusher in the mold of Dwight Freeney. John McClain said the same thing. Now, people have us keeping Mario at right end, and looking for a big left end. This doesn’t make any sense to me. We have that in Anthony Weaver. If we can find a speed rusher, move Mario to the left side where he’s shown he can still dominate.

Tyson Jackson is currently the 3rd ranked DE on Scouts Inc, #19 overall
Draft Tek also has him as the 3rd ranked 4-3 DE behind Brown & Orakpo. If he is no better than Weaver then he would be a bust. I think either Jackson or Johnson would have to be an upgrade over Weaver, but who the hell am I? Just a fan with an opinion. Gotta have trust that Smithiak will continue to draft effectively.
