McClain says no ext for DeMeco
Did anybody else see this in McClains chat from yestreday?
[Comment From Benard]
What type of contract ext do u see DeMeco getting?
| 12:30 | John McClain: I don't. He was offered one and turned it down. |
Whats the deal with DeMeco and Dunta turning down these extensions? It just makes me think they want out of Houston. Hopefully we can go on a playoff run and they'll change their minds. Thoughts BRB ?

This Kills Me
First off, McClain’s response makes me want to scream. Perhaps some details? What was offered? What did he turn down? Were the sides far apart? Man…
I’m not worried…yet. There’s simply no reason the team would let DeMeco go. It’s not like he has Dunta’s injury history. I cannot fathom Smithiak letting DeMeco walk.
Dunta, on the other hand, should reevaluate his position. Burge wrote a very nice article a few days ago declaring that it’s time for Dunta and the Texans to reopen talks. I couldn’t agree more, especially with the last sentence of the artcle:
And Dunta, if you insist on getting more guaranteed than those in that $20-$23 million guaranteed club, then I’d say that in 2010 it may be time for you to move on.
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

I’m with you on Dunta. Hopefully they’ll start talks again after the draft. There’s really only two guys on that defense who should be paid top 5 money and that’s Demeco and Mario.

Don't forget Super Mario

There was a time when I used to admire pancakes
but either the information age has exposed him as lazy and poorly informed, or possibly he is slowing down in his old age, or both. He ran this fluff piece in todays old school paper version of the chron, and it has absolutely no new information whatsoever. The Texans coverage here at BRB, http://www.houstondiehards.com/ (Thank you Chris) and
http://www.examiner.com/x-778-Houston-Texans-Examiner (Thank you AJ)
completely outshine the work that pancakes is currently producing.

I agree
I saw that article too and was really dissapointed. Reporting that to Texans fans is the equivalent of telling a normal person that water is wet. Same thing with what Tim was saying about McLain’s chat, it’s just frustrating. I’d like to think with the kind of access he has he could get better insight. I don’t really want to see him get fired, but I hope he’s near retirement.

You hit the nail on the head - HE has access, but seemingly makes no use of it
I have no doubt that any number of regulars here, given the access made available to Johnny Mac, could attract more readers to the Chronicle than he does.
He still does excellent work in getting people associated with the Oilers their due recognition in Hall of Fame voting. His “reporting”, however, has lost it’s edge.

Demeco wants more money.
NFL is a business.Players rarely get paid as much as they think that they are worth.
I hope the Texans get an ext. worked out with Demeco though.

Agree with Tyler
DeMeco and Mario deserve huge contracts. Dunta doesn’t. I’d give him a sizable one – I’m even willing to overpay him a little bit… but if he wants more than 23 million guaranteed, as has been reported – see ya. I’ll miss ya, but see ya.
