Poor Mike Clark and the Bronco fans
I feel like we should be seeking our boy Mike Clark out and giving him some counseling. I can't believe what's going down in Denver. I blame the new coach almost entirely - but now it's time for Cutler to suck it up and take it... even though apparently Josh McDaniels gave him more of a "this is the way it is" vibe than a "you're our guy and we don't want to trade you" vibe.
I know it's business as usual in the NFL to make trades, and these trades often come as a surprise to the people being traded - but come on, a young franchise quarterback who has shown signs of being one of the best in the league? Incredible.
The fact that McDaniels said they never tried to trade Cutler in the first place, then went back and admitted they tried to make the Cassel deal - I can really see where Cutler is coming from. Sure - he needs to be a professional and not start making threats and demands - but I can certainly see WHY he would now demand a trade and want out of there.
So hang in there, Mike and all Bronco fans.

No Clean Hands In That Deal
From what I’ve read, I think both the Broncos and Cutler could have and should have handled it better. As usual, the people that are really bearing the brunt of the dispute are the fans. I’m a huge fan of the community over at Mile High Report, so I take no joy in seeing them on the receiving end of this nonsense. I’m rooting for them, though I think we’re quickly approaching, if not already at, the point where a trade has to be made for the good of all parties involved.
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

I'm a fan of that site too
I’ve posted many times over there, and I’m constantly treated GREAT by their fans. I get along with them better than I do with fans of any other team.
That said – if by some huge shock the Titans end up with Cutler, they’re on my shit list, heh.
I did a post about it a while back – how the Titans should just put aside all the roster and money problems with it, and try to acquire Cutler – but I’d obviously be sick if it happened.
Sounds like the Lions have a lot of interest, and they have the picks that could make it work.

Yup
I’m going to draft a post tonight about how Cutler moving could affect the Texans at No. 15. Needless to say, Cutler going to DET would not be good for us in terms of trading down. One less suitor for Stafford or Sanchez hurts.

I would jizz in my pants if the Titans got Cutler.
I, and many Nashvillians, wanted Cutler over Young before the 2006 draft.
However, all the intel anyone’s been able to gether says the debate in the team offices was Young vs. Leinart, and Cutler wasn’t even part of the equation.

See, I don't remember that.
I even asked over at MCM if there was a huge swell of fans who wanted Cutler, and most admitted they thought he was in that “next tier” after VY and Leinart, despite being the hometown boy.

I remember that conversation...
and I’ll say now what I said then: how could anyone see them play in college and think that Cutler wouldn’t be a better NFL passer than VY? Yeah, yeah…Vince had the running ability and what have you, but we’ve seen from Michael Vick (who was a much better runner than VY) that at the end of the day, you win or lose mainly based on your passing ability.
Yay, sports.

Wins
Young won at Texas. He won a lot. He won a national title.
In Cutler’s best season, Vanderbilt posted a 5-6 record. And that’s not just SEC games, he got trashed TWICE by (disclaimer: my alma mater) Middle Tennessee State, an “inferior” opponent.
Hey, I’m not saying it was the right theory, but it was a valid one.

Ya but
Loot at the talent that VY had around him, and look at what Cutler had to work with. You can’t bring it down to just wins and losses, but rather the way they played.
Let's get the Texans a better fight song.

You’re right, you shouldn’t bring it down to just wins and losses, but are you telling me that an 11-35 college record didn’t hurt Cutler’s draft stock?
Because I think that alone is the main reason he was drafted after Young, rather than before.

I agree with your evaluation of "why"
but TT is right—-reducing it to W/L, especially when you’re comparing programs like UT and Vandy, you are getting a skewed result from the beginning. If you just watched both guys play QB, Cutler was clearly more NFL ready.
Yay, sports.

I must not have joined yet.
Or something. I didn’t join the site until after the 2006 season was over.
And I’m the only fan I know in real life who posts on MCM, and the fans I know in person are the ones I’m basing my judgement on.
Most MCM regulars aren’t Nashvillians, we’re in a distinct minority. (Actually, there are more current or former Texas residents who are regulars on MCM, or were at one point, than people from TN – either because of the Oilers or VY or both). It may have gone up, but at the moment I can only name 4: Jimmy, August West, Big Bad Bullock, and BeansCarter.
I wasn’t too disappointed when they grabbed Young, though. I thought he would be GREAT! Feel free to point and laugh at me now.

A note from a fan of the once great and organized franchise at Mile High........
I made this same comment on another Batle Red Blog, I’m so sick of this situation I’m having a hard time thinking of things to write
Things are so crazy at MHR right now that I don’t even want to visit. Big Blue Shoe at The Colts SB sight did a great analysis of the situation……..he calls it the "Poison of Bilecheat spreading its tenicles. ’
How Bowlen can let a 25 year old Pro-Bowl QB go when he pratically carried our entire team (without a running back at times and no defense) on his shoulders last year has all of us at MHR befuddled. I have a bad feeling that the dust from this debacle will settle as mud on my once proud team. To salvage my sanity I have slipped into La La Land and am ignoring the MSM completely.

Oh well, at least I can root for your team.
The best defense is a good offense!
