Derrick Ward signs with Tampa Bay
Really glad to see this because he was asking too much money, wanted to be a starter, is 28 years old with a few injury issues which reminds me too much of Chris Brown and Ahman Green. Yes we need another running back, and although I loved Ced Benson as a Longhorn, I am not sold that he can stay focused on football once he gets back to Texas. Too many friends, too many distractions spells trouble for Cap'n Hazelwood. I prefer that we use a mid-round pick on a guy like Gartrell Johnson.

Andre Brown would fit but he may be a 3rd rounder, which is not necessarily a negative
but I would really like to go defense with at least our 1st 3 rounds, and then pick up a RB and a G/C later.
Chris Brown is still listed on our IR list but I don’t know if Smithiak is expecting anything out of him. The fact that we are pursuing FA RB’s tells me that he is not being counted on to be a part of the team.
Not sure the Benson issue is dead yet, but I would be surprised if we land him. He will likely be offered starter $$$ by someone, and we don’t need to overpay for a backup RB.

OTD, good scoop
But I think we might end up with Benson. No one seems to be that interested, and his public statements seem to scream “please! Take me and let me leave the Bengals!” I could be wrong but I get that feeling. Also, Brown may not even be there in the middle of the third when we pick. My new possible sleeper, Rashad Jennings (Liberty).
Let's get the Texans a better fight song.

When a player screams please take me, I have to be concerned
I really think someone is going to offer Ced starting $$$ and a starting position. Why would he choose to be a backup and get backup $$$ when he is in his prime? After flopping early, he finally put together a stringof decent games late last season. His market value is higher now than at any point after he was drafted. He and his agent should want to capitolize on that and not settle for a backup role with the Texans. I loved Ced at UT, but do not want him now, because I think we would have to overpay to get him.
I much prefer to use a 4th or lower pick and get the best RB available. Better $$ value, and young fresh legs. Jennings, Gartrell, whoever. Should not be hard to find a situational back in the latter rounds.
