Lions Going with Sanchez
A report of PFT has the Lions being interested in Mark Sanchez, not Matt Stafford. It doesn't say whether Sanchez would be the Lions' #1 or #20 selection, but if they take an OL or Curry with their first pick, it could bode well for the Texans if the Lions want to trade up and get Sanchez. If they take Sanchez first, Stafford could slide and also help the Texans with a trade down situation. The report comes after an earlier PFT report that said the Lions were commencing negotiations with their #1 pick, so either Detroit is negotiating with one of the lineman or Sanchez actually is their #1 guy.

Sanchez
If he’s their target, are they thinking they can get him at No. 20? Because I don’t think they can, and that would probably benefit us at No. 15 (assuming Sanchez lasts that long, which he very well may not).
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

devil's advocate
If he’s there at 15, why not just draft him?

LOL!
i know, that’s why i said “DEVIL” lol, although to be fair, i do like Sanchez. It’s just extremely hard for the Texans front office to sell that pick after trading away Rosenfels. Schaub would be one ticked starting qb.

Be careful what you read...
I really doubt that the Lions are more interested in Sanchez than they are in Stafford. What’s probably going on is that someone from the Lions organization “leaked” this bit of info to a press member to make Stafford and his agent think that they’re going in a different direction. Since the Lions have the #1 pick, they are in the unique situation of being able to negotiate a contract with their pick before the draft. By doing this, they’re hoping that Stafford will accept less money just to be the #1 pick, as he would still make more than if he were even the #2 pick.
It’s kind of like back in high school when there was this girl (say captain of the cheerleading squad) that you wanted to ask to the prom. To make her more interested in you, you had one of your friends start a rumor that you really wanted to go with her best friend. Once the cheerleader that you really want finds out about this, she’ll instantly see you as a more attractive candidate to go to prom with.
It’s all misinformation at this point leading up to the draft, so don’t take everything you read at face value. I guarantee that in the coming weeks you’ll hear reports of the Lions actually targeting Eugene Monroe when they REALLY want Jason Smith (or vice versa)

new links
seems a report now has Jason Smith as the #1 pick, meaning they could be eyeing to trade up for Sanchez
This article says the Jets would need to trade up for a QB—-helps us again!
