With The 15th Overall Pick Of The 2009 SB Nation Mock Draft, Battle Red Blog Selects...
This dude. Blast us in the Comments below, with the understanding that we were not able to trade down under the rules of the mock.

Heh. It happened again.
Two blogger mocks I picked in also had both Cushing and Matthews off the board. In one I picked Sintim, and in one I picked Oher, since he somehow fell. No trades were allowed in either mock.
So, I know how you feel – and I actually like the pick, considering the circumstances. Snag Tyrone McKenzie in the 2nd, or some other solid LB, and we’re good.

I'm not sure...
if you were referring to me as “this dude.” But, I am the dude who commented first. Sorry, I didn’t acknowledge the fact that it was a no-trade-only mock. With that said though, I still stand on the comments =)
Re: "This Dude"
Nah, I was referring to Sean Smith. But I certainly do appreciate your comment(s). Your critique was valid and well thought-out. Hope to see you more around these parts.
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...
I would take Sean Smith over Peria Jerry, any day of the week, and here's why. And other things.
We already have 2 first round picks at 3 technique. He is also tiny. Hell, our defensive ends weigh as much as Peria Jerry – Mario Williams 285, Antonio Smith 285, Peria Jerry 290.
Yes Vontae Davis is available, but did the SBN blogger really say Vontae Davis is better suited to free safety, based on body type and skill set, than Sean Smith? Really?
Sean Smith 6-4 215, Vontae Davis 6’0 205. I choose the bigger player to be a safety. Height and weight battle goes to Smith.
Sean Smith 4.47 Pro day 40, 32 inch vertical. Vontae Davis 4.40 pro day time, 37.5 inch vertical. Speed and jump goes to Davis.
Sean Smith 2007-2008 9 INT’s 151 return yards (in 08 alone) and a TD . Vontae Davis 2007-2008 6 int, 12 return yards, 0 TDs . Int’s and int returns go to Smith
SS 07-08 16 PBU, VD 07-08 16 PBU. Push.
SS – No character issues. VD – Some character issues, and brother to a head case. Character to Smith.
I take Sean Smith as my safety, and take Vonate Davis if I want a corner. Its that simple, to me. Smith also has the ability to play some corner, so if I want to man up on the Randy Moss’ of the world, I can – and have an even match up. Sean Smith will not be there in round 2, so lets pick a player in round 1 that has a chance to start / contribute. With where we picked, those players available would be Sean Smith, Knowshon Moreno, Beanie Wells, Alex Mack, Clintin Stintim, Michael Johnson (on third down only), and Vontae Davis.
I think Fred can step up and be a good corner, and if Frenchy can turn his freaking head, he would be above average if not good. I think taking a RB in round 1 would be a waste, even though they would contribute. Alex Mack I would approve of after about 90 seconds, but I would still want a top tier defensive player. I would be ok with taking Johnson, but still mad because we are drafting a first round rotational player. Stintim is better suited to a 3-4, being the only linebacker who played in it in college, but brings the pain. I would be ok with his selection. Davis would go into the mix at corner, but I want at least a year with all 4 corners in the new system before we start adding folks. It is by far not our biggest need.
Basically, if we can’t move down – pull the trigger on Smith. He probably wont be there in the 2nd for us, and he has the best chance to be a starter on defense.
Very well said...
Agree, agree, and concur (changeup). I balked at that dude’s comment too.
Some people….

Over Michael Johnson?
I would take him if he was available over a CB. I know we have a few more passrushers than we used to, but you can never have too many of those. A good passrush makes a secondary look good, imo.
When I'm on the mic, I'm like global warming, you can't ignore me.

That's the beauty of Smith...
He should be able to step in and play CB or FS immediately. Likely a better long-term answer at FS, which is a big need for us as well.
I love MJ’s freakish ass too, but he’d be a situational pass-rusher for us (not to mention the learning curve associated with most DE’s, though that would be limited, due to us asking only one thing of him). I just think Smith would see much more action/make more impact, and that’s what I’d assume we’re looking for in our 1st rounder.

Assuming...
Eugene Wilson could play the other Safety spot, with little to no dropoff in play. That would rock balls.

Yeah, I'd take Michael Johnson
I don’t put alot of stock in Antonio Smith.
The true test in the life of a Texans fan is how gracefully you endure it.
