Texans Match Denver's Offer To David Anderson

The title of this post sort of says it all, don't it? I think this was the prudent move by Smithiak. David Anderson won't be confused with Andre Johnson anytime soon, but he's almost certainly more valuable than the seventh-round draft pick the Texans would have received if they hadn't matched Denver's offer. The guaranteed money is rather reasonable by free agent standards, and Anderson has shown he can contribute in the passing game. I dig it.

fuck me

Not if our seventh rounder was going to be used on Quan!

I’m still hopin’… wishin’… prayin’…
Maybe we’ll cut loose that handless bastard who wears #12.

Re: Quan

I would be very surprised if Quan lasted until the seventh round. I think someone’s going to snatch him up before then.

Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

I was thinking that, too...

But as previously stated, it seems everyone is shitting on him and he’s becoming forgotten. Likely due to his age. To that point… FUCK BASEBALL!!!

I actually don't like this

By signing this contract, we’re saying that Anderson is our third WR of the future because Davis is getting old. When you’re playing in an offense as pass happy as ours that also has the best WR in football, you should be better. Maybe I’m being unfair, and I hope he proves me wrong and produces as our #3 when he gets there.

Let's get the Texans a better fight song.

Dunno

I don’t think this guarantees anything, except that Anderson will LIKELY be our No. 3 or No. 4 wideout in ‘09. There’s not much money to eat in the event the team sours on him.

Honestly, I think this was just a case of Smithiak deciding that bringing Anderson back for a mil guaranteed would be more beneficial to the team than trying to make something happen with a seventh-rounder. It’d be one thing if Anderson got tendered at a higher level; then, there’d be a decision to make. But Anderson over a seventh-rounder? No debate in my mind.

uh, what play exactly caused a double face palm

where rosenfels was on the BENCH?

Smushiak will take us to the playoffs in 2009.

I’m sure it was just residual facepalm from the entire collapse. Might have been the defensive series after Steel Blue Hawk Down… might have been after the Colts took it down and scored.

Doesn’t matter. The point is… facepalm.

i like

david anderson has been great…always steps in and could make the big catch, decent to good speed, good hands, and hes a hard worker and gives 110 percent

Wtf?

WTF is all the hate on his dance? I don’t like people who over-celebrate in the end zone, but its not like he gets a lot of touchdown opportunities.

Mainly – his dance was a nod to Conan O’Brian. Thats about the best background story for an end zone celebration I know of.

And FWIW – I agree with every single offseason move we’ve made. The FO is doing a good job. I’m glad to see Anderson back.

Well, we overpaid for Orvlosky, but if Kubiak sees a good QB in him, I’m good with it because Kubiak’s a QB guru.

My biggest problem with the offseason so far is that we offered 2.75 million to Ced Benson. Luckily, he didn’t accept.

Also – it is my right to hate on dancing. I like that it got him/the Texans some national pub, though.

Honestly – the dancing didn’t bother me TOO much until he did it after a non-TD catch. He made a play over the middle and did a little dance move. That annoyed me. Anyway, I’m good with him returning. I hope he sees the field more, as long as it doesn’t happen because of injury.

re: Ced

But did Pancakes ever say if it was 2.75 guaranteed, 2.75 possible in an Ahman Green-structured deal, or something in between? I just have a hard time believing we offered a guaranteed 2.75

So you're saying that now I have to think of some witty Sig that will be applicable across all the SBN sites? Go TexanHornStros!

Don't Think He Specified

It was simply something the the effect of Benson taking $3.5 from Cincy to start instead of $2.75 from Houston to be a backup.

Love Anderson

As a small white guy I admire David’s toughness. Dude is a winner, and the $$$ are not out of line. Winning teams always have guys like David that have the knack for making a big play in clutch time.
