Amobi, Don't Toy With Our Emotions

Uh-oh.  John McClain is reporting that Amobi Okoye is experiencing tenderness and soreness in his knee that may or may not need an MRI.  Amobi was quoted as saying:

"There's a little soreness there," he said. "Hopefully, it's nothing big. We’re taking a look at it. Going out there and running, it's not really inhibiting me, but I can feel a little bit of soreness. I’ll take it day by day and see if it gets worse or if it gets any better.

"I wouldn't necessarily say it's worrisome. Let's hope it doesn't get worrisome."

When I first saw this, my heart caught in my throat.  We really need Amobi to play to and beyond the level he played at his rookie year, before he regressed last year.  Amobi went on to say that he's going to give it two weeks, and if it's still sore he's going to get a MRI then.  Gary Kubiak commented that he thinks everyone is sore from the conditioning program but he is meeting with Amobi today nonetheless.

Hopefully, this is nothing and the knee is fine.  Hopefully.

If this pans out negatively

I wouldn’t be surprised to see us target a DT in round 2 or even round 1 this could shake up the whole draft, and Okoye knows it…that may be why he wants to wait for 2 weeks, which would land us just past the first few rounds of the draft.

He is only like 15 years old…you guys still have plenty of good years with him. Imagine when he hits puberty what a beast he will be.

Meh

Soreness can be anything. Could just be swelling. Take some HGH and get back to work, I say.

If it "needs" an MRI?

“Wil the MRI fix my knee?” No, no it wont. Just take the 2 hours off and get the MRI, don’t be like ehh I think I’ll stick through it.

I had an MRI once

right after I detonated my ACL. It was just after I’d had my first son, so I was super tired and fell asleep in the MRI tube. Pretty sure the MRI techs had never seen that before.

I fell asleep too during knee mri

The tech said he hadn’t seen that before because it was so loud, but i have slept in a CH-53 helicoptor.

when your knee's are worth a zillion dollars

…and you start to think…“I should get an MRI”….why not drive to the hospital…and uh…and get a freakin MRI…The Texans should pratically own a hospital wing by now with their injury history…if its bad…schedule schedule surgery for the next morning and get rehabbing…what the hell is everyone waiting on? you needn’t consult your marketing department and worry about keeping the media abreast of things…just get cracking…we shouldn’t be finding this stuff out until they’re either done testing or out of surgery. Reminds me of TMac’s world tour before getting surgery…I don’t get why these folks (in long-term contracts) wait …especially when news could potentially affect how we’d use/trade our first draft pick.

Well...think about it

If you were Okoye would you really want the Texans drafting round 1 competition for you at DT? If he’s all for the team sure, but like you said his “knee’s are worth a zillion dollars” as long as he is useful to the team. He’s probably gonna worry about his future job and paycheck as well, and waiting until after the draft could help ensure them.

He could also be trying to be a tough guy and gut it out.

And not go in for a look. Most men are like that, imo. Lord knows I played lacrosse with some injuries that were pretty gnarly (sprained meniscus, stress fractures in both legs) because I was too macho to go to a doctor (and because they might have told me I couldn’t play). I assume it’s the same for football players.

If I am Kubes

He is in getting an MRI about 7 minutes after he tells me that.

Exactly - That is an automatic

and considering he fought through a high ankle sprain all last year, which is the reason given why he “regressed”, the 21 year old manchild already has durability issues. Not a good sign at all.

This is what happens

When you take players whose stock shot through the roof just because they had a great performance at the senior bowl. Now we may do it again with Matthews.

Dude

Chill with the anti-Amobi rhetoric. Let’s give give him the benefit of the doubt, he’s had one bad year.

Let's get the Texans a better fight song.

I must be slow....I've given it more thought, but

Doesn’t complaining about knee pain and the possibility of injury (just days before the draft) only illustrate how much we need another DT for the upcoming draft…thereby increasing his competition? I mean if he were to go down…we’d be starting Cody w/ who Punky Brewster as our backup? I don’t even know whose left? Wondering only makes Jerry P look that much more attractive, am I wrong?
