McShay and Kiper
Is it just me or do they just not know much about football? I think McShay is worse than Kiper personally, but they both kinda suck. McShay's latest mock has us taking Robert Ayers at 15. Most places I've read have him as a very late 1st rounder or very early 2nd. McShay doesn't even mention that we would probably trade down if we wanted Ayers. He makes this pick even though Matthews is still on the board and I'm pretty sure other higher rated DE were there also. Remember earlier when he had us taking Sanchez? I'm just saying, I know the draft is a crapshoot and it's hard to get inside the GMs' heads but come on. Kiper and McShay just seem really really awful to me. Maybe they always have been and I'm just now noticing, but ESPN leans on them so much (We have 2 draft experts!!!) they just seem so subpar. I know I'm isolating just a few picks, but I'm just trying to figure out how they became "experts" when they suck this bad. Kiper isn't quite as bad he gave us Cushing which at least makes more sense from value/pos of need perspective. I just wanted to see what everyone else thinks.

Are you kidding?
The Sanchez pick included spot on analysis. Don’t question McShay. Dude is a god.

Still waiting...
Let's draft Sanchez and trade Schaub for a future 4th round pick
the Mcshay can brag about how smart he is.

lol, man why the hate on sanchez!?!?!
any other year, I would have loved to take Sanchez. He’s going to be awesome, I like him alot, but obviously he’s not gonna be our guy, and Texans are not drafting a QB..impossible. Kiper kinda pissed me off today on the OTL report. They interviewed Mario today and asked him about the 2006 draft and the aftermath of his selection and how he felt having to live up to the VY fan hype and the Reggie Bush mania. So they ask Michael Smith about the draft b/c he was one of the few analysts prior to the draft who actually thought Mario was going to be our pick and that Mario was the superior player of the 3. They then ask Kiper and Kiper says, “oh well, Mario’s good, but Reggie Bush put the Saints into the playoffs, he’s a solid player. The Texans didn’t help Carr out, he could’ve been the solution.” I was like…WTF??? Have u not paid ANY attention to Mario Williams? The man is becoming one of the most DOMINANT forces in the nfl while reggie bush is just a cute 3rd down option and a scat back. Is that worth a #2 overall selection? Considering Chris Johnson went late in the 1st round last year, Felix Jones as well, Darren Sproles a 4th rounder, Slaton a 3rd rounder, all of whom have a similar role and are actually more durable than he and cheaper as well…how could u even ARGUE THAT? oh, and not to mention adding the “potential of David Carr” into ur argument automatically takes away any credibility from ur argument so….eh..

Some people
Have a hard time admitting to being wrong and will use any justification to avoid having to own up to their mistakes. When your hair is that big, you probably have a big head too.
Hell, even Jim Rome admitted he was wrong and apologized about the Mario pick.

+1
LOVE this. Yeah we didn’t help out David Carr enough, THAT’S why we lost. Nevermind the dude was a lost cause. Oh and I seem to remember some guys named Drew Brees, Deuce and Marques Colston getting NO to the playoffs that yeah.
lol, complete crap
Ur absolutely right, Colston was a 7th round miracle, Drew Brees resurrected his career, and Deuce went nuts. Oh, but Reggie Bush turned water into wine, walked on water, and revived a man from his death, while running a 4.3 40. Oh, and he played for USC sooo….anything those other Saints kinda pales in comparison. pssssh “draft pundits”
Not hating on Sanchez, hating on the idiot Todd McShay
I agree that Sanchez is solid, and will be a good Sunday QB for some team.
Kiper is an absolute idiot for still trying to argue that Bush is superior to Mario. It makes him look even more egotistical and ridiculous than he really is.

i never noticed
how innane both of these guys are. They scream @ each other and go nuts, while both of them miss BIG time sometimes. Last year McShay claimed Duane Brown to be the most dissapointing and biggest reach of the draft, yet he was touting the Vernon Gholston pick. lol, Duane Brown plays in the toughest division in football while starting all 16 games and helping us establish our O-line. He STILL claims him to be a “reach,” and Kiper’s a complete douche for not recanting his stance on Mario. Gosh, y can’t people admit that when Kubes went against the grain, he didn’t commit some cardinal sin? VY IS A FREAKING BACKUP NOW. I actually GO TO UT, and the site of that man pisses me off…that should say something.

That's really what makes Todd and Mel the arrogant d-bags that they are
at least Rome had the cajones to admit he was wrong about the Mario-Bush-VY thing. Mario is, and has been a superb player for the past 2 years. He played hurt his rookie year with a painful injury and did not use that as an excuse. He’s a player’s player. A pro bowler. I wish all the best for Reggie and Vince, but I am real glad that Smithiak are smarter than me. I wanted us to take VY, but it is evident that we got the best player(s) that year (got DeMeco too).

Dirty Sanchez blows. The guy has injury problems, and he’s only been the starting QB for ONE YEAR. People seriously need to get off of this guys’ bandwagon. The only thing he excels in is getting out of molestation cases.
This line will remain in my signature until the Colts draft Rashad Jennings in 2009.
Oh and I write words and stuff for Stampede Blue.
No doubt.

I don't know
Maybe it’s just me, but I think most of the blogs I read provide better analysis but that may just be because they’re more team centric. Kiper’s mock didn’t even mention any of Cushing’s issues. It’s just like “Cushing has the ability to play inside and outside, so he is pretty awesome” something to that effect. They just seem to scratch the surface to me. Besides who can forget Kiper talking about Mike Williams being selected by the Lions a few years ago. “I’ll see you at his Hall of Fame induction”.

The only problem with that
Is their full times jobs are doing draft analysis. If I was paid 6+ figures to do draft analysis, had insider information, the ability to requisition game tape, the access to coaches, players, prospects, and could go to things like the combine, personal workouts, and interviews – you wouldn’t ever see a “Mark Sanchez to the Texans” – esque pick. Its ridiculous.
You have literally the best tools available to even attempt to predict the crapshoot that is the NFL draft. The least you can do is not look like an idiot.
That, and Mel Kipers hair looks like a bird, and since Mel Kiper’s face looks like a disgruntled vulture, it is like a bird sitting on a bird. Think about it.
I'll take
Riott, TT and MDC over those guys any day. The only halfway decent draft expert out there is Mayock, imo.

ditto
Mayock is solid. I dont’ even mind Brian Baldinger, but he does more game analysis and tape breakdown. I remember he did that last year for Matt Schaub vs David Carr, and then he did Steve Slaton’s success in the zone block scheme. Awesome stuff. Kiper and Mcshay wait for this month before the draft for some face time and then sulk back into the doldrums to eat babies and gel each other’s hair.
Hit the nail on the head
Riott pretty much summed up what I feel on this one. It’s not so much that they make strange selections and sometimes ignore team needs and deep prospect analysis it’s just that they should be better. As far as mocks that I think are accurate and well thought out they are nowhere near the top of the list, yet they have all the tools to be the best. They are paid draft experts, but they suck at it. That’s what bugs me.

I've stopped watching the ESPN talk shows with the
“expert analysis” and I have not missed anything. Remember the month leading up to the UT-USC game? A month straight about how awesome USC was and how there was no way possible they would lose. It drives me crazy listening to these guys blow smoke. I am a casual fan that doesn’t get paid for my football views and I think that I know more about football than these idiots.
ESPN is not about sports
It is about using sports as a vehicle to promote ESPN. I just want to watch sports.
