Brian Cushing Is Your Newest Texan...

Well, I hate this pick more than any other pick Smithiak has ever made. I hate it with the fire of a thousand suns. I hate life.

Vent as you see fit. I'm going to be catatonic until the second round.

Damn

I completely and totally blame TT for this.

So you're saying that now I have to think of some witty Sig that will be applicable across all the SBN sites? Go TexanHornStros!

I'm sorry

Positives:

1. Great Against the run.
2. Does have a nasty streak

In the end, we have to trust Smithiak. I hope the see something I didn’t.

You know... for kids.

Seriously though

Remind me to NEVER go to Vegas with you. Ever.

I don't like it either.

But I’ll bet one person $50 they prove us wrong and we love him by the end of the season.

by WhiskeyR on Apr 25, 2009 4:51 PM CDT reply actions   1 recs

Exactly

I trust Smithiak. They have yet to give me a reason not to.

Not a safe bet...

Brain “The Barbarian” Cushing!

I think that before/after pic

and the roid implication is the only reason I don’t like the pick.

Anything else?

Smushiak will take us to the playoffs in 2009.

The pony-tail

I Hate Everything Right Now.

But the ponytail is at the top of the list. He looks like a girl.

Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

To be fair

He looks less like a girl than when he sported a Mikelson-sized pair of man boobs

Re: The Pony Tail

Cushing looks like a Frick’in Viking! Like Old School! The Pony Tail and a Sword would be perfect! I can’t wait to see his “Violent” way of playing! WHOOT!!!!!!!!!1

and whats with the not smiling?

he didn’t seem excited about the Texans AT ALL.

Welcome to the Texans…

I hate him.

I fucking hate him so much. And I hate the pick. And I hate Richard Smith a little bit for making the pick. And I hate Jesus for letting it happen.

Why the FUCK do you take an injury-prone juicemonkey who (literally) squats less than I do?!?!?!

I’m done. The draft is turned off. I don’t give a rat’s ass how the second round goes, since I’ve realized we won’t take/get Smith. Because God and Gary Kubiak hate me.

Yay, sports.

Richard Smith?

Not a mistake you usually make…..you must be fuming.

by Shake on Apr 25, 2009 5:18 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think MDC has demoted Rick Smith to Richard Smith

it may be subtle to the masses, but at BRB we all know how damning a statement it is. No one associated with the Texans will ever want to be called Richard Smith, and if god forbid Cushing turns out to be an injury prone bust, then Rick Smith may also become an name associated with ineptitude. My first reaction to this pick is disgust, but I am a Texans diehard fan above all else, and will support Cushing fully, as long as he is an asset.

RE: I hate him

He’s a Brain Urlacher type player. He’s got a Brutal/Violent style of playing that is perfect for Houston. You might hate him, you might squat more, but you’re Not on the Field in 2009 in a Texans Jersey Proving you belong has the #1 pick. “Be Happy, Don’t Worry…”

Watch this Number in 2009!!!
  1. will changing his name from Brian Cushing to Brain CRUSHING!!!!

Cushing redux:

I guess I’ll toss out this question: Can someone name for me a Smithiak draft bust?

At the worst, we owe him a few weeks of the regular season before we start screaming bloody murder.

by DisplacedTexan on Apr 25, 2009 5:30 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Agreed

But pure Devil’s advocate…..that just means that statistically we are due for a bust soon

+1

I’d have rather had any number of other players, or traded up for Orakpo, but I trust Smithiak.

by WhiskeyR on Apr 25, 2009 5:34 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don't understand

why he was sooo unexcited to get picked by the Texans? or was he just nervous?

by wiseonekms on Apr 25, 2009 5:48 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

It is

A pick for a position of need, and frankly I’m willing to let him play a snap before I dogpile on this being a shitty pick.

If they like Cushing more than Rey then okay, I’ll give them the credit of knowing better than me most of the time anyway.

Also, Adrian Peterson was also injury prone before he went to the Vikings.

In Smithiak We Trust

That’s about all we can repeat, over and over, right now.

Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

by Tim on Apr 25, 2009 6:55 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'm all meh

If he didn’t look like one of the frat boys/bad guys in a John Hughes movie, I might like the pick more.

But whatever. He may think he’s god’s gift — and he very well may be. But he’ll be playing alongside Durga’s gift. And if he doesn’t think he has something to learn, DeMeco and Mario will make sure he understands right quick.

When I'm on the mic, I'm like global warming, you can't ignore me.

Sup guys?

been reading BRB for like.. half a year and seeing as how the new season is coming up i figured i’d get an account going finally.

So… I’m not exactly a huge fan of this guy.. but what I was thinking when it was our turn to pick was “Vontae Davis or CM3” i wasnt too sure but i was PRETTY sure it was going to be one of those two. then … well.. this? anyone else thinkin along these lines?

Looking forward to not having an 8-8 year!

by BattleRedHusker on Apr 25, 2009 11:11 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Welcome, BRH

I thought there was a decent chance we’d pick Cushing, but I was praying we wouldn’t. I was never a big Vontae guy, and I liked Clay III enough to take him at 15.

Didn’t want Cushing then, and I still don’t like the pick now.

Cushing

Is our guy now. We are not draft experts. We don’t know him or really any of these kids like Smith/Kubiak. Why such negativity. They obviously see something in this guy.I’ll admit that I wanted Matthews, but too bad so sad. Why not show a little Texas hospitality and welcome the guy instead of acting like a bunch of assholes. Just saying

It takes a big man to walk away, but a bigger man to break his freaking jaw!

by USMC_Texas on Apr 26, 2009 6:00 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Just venting USMC

I am supremely confident that all the negativity will turn to cheers if Cushing produces on the field. I hate this pick, but the fan in me loves all (good) Texan players. Cush will now be given every chance to be our guy at SLB.

by oiler-texan diehard on Apr 26, 2009 6:58 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Fair Reaction

He’s a Texan now, so we’re contractually obligated to support him. I don’t like the pick, but the ultimate trump card, as you noted, is that I have far less knowledge than Smithiak. They liked him enough to pull the trigger; given their nearly flawless draft record, they get the benefit of the doubt.

Give the guy a chance

If nothing else, his ragingly gay hairdo will frighten opposing backs into submission.

by TexansForever on Apr 26, 2009 7:54 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Ragingly Gay Hairdo?

Did I read that? His pony tail will hardly be noticed by the opposing offense, only his Brutal/Violent play style will be reminding people of Conan the Barbarian!

RAGINGLY BRUAL HAIRDO! He’s probably a METAL HEAD!!!! ;)

by SUFFER on Apr 26, 2009 10:54 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

A couple of things

Stop with the juice AK’s
Stop with the hairdo
Stop with the dude being “unexcited”

The dude is built but not ballooned and plus it was all bullshit fucking rumors from sportwriting child molesters
I can’t defend a hairdo (because I have no hair) but if you have to look for things to make of him about then you probably need grow up and get a life
I have seen this dude in at least a dozen interviews…he has the personality of a stump…i don’t think a fire cracker up his ass would get him excited off the field…but on the field he is a fucking animal

he has not killed, raped or molested anybody, he hasn’t smoked crack, dope or smack and he has not robbed any liquor stores

According to the Texans management he is a SOLID Citizen…soooo Give the dude a chance…After All He is a Houston Texan!!

CUSHING

HEY I HOPE THIS GUY MAKES A DIFFERENCE. LIKE MOST TEXAN FANS I WATCH THE GAME AND CHEER FOR THE TEXANS NO MATTER WHAT. MY POINT WAS THAT EVERYBODY AND THEIR MOMMA PREDICTED MATTEWS. I DONT CARE WHO WE GET AS LONG AS THEY BLEED FOR THE TEXANS. SLATON KICKED ASS AND NOBODY THOUGHT THAT WOULD HAPPEN. SO PRAYNIG FOR MY TEAM. HOPING OWEN DANIELS AND ROBINSON GET THAT MONEY AND PRODUCE LIKE WE KNOW THEY CAN.
