Connor Barwin Is The Newest Member Of The Houston Texans

Welcome to Houston, Connor Barwin.  Barwin who played DE at Cincinnati after being recruited to play TE, was just drafted in the second round by your Houston Texans.  Both positions are needs for the Texans.  Barwin amazed scouts and player personnel at the 2009 NFL Combine by running a 4.66 40.  Most draftniks assumed that Barwin would be converted to an OLB, which is still an option for the Texans, but more on that to follow…

Barwin

1. You got your situational pass rusher and maybe future SLB
2. You got a third TE that’s got enough speed to get down the field. It’s third and short, and you line up Daniels, Dreesen, and Barwin. Teams can’t assume the run because all your TEs are also receiving threats.
3. You got a special teams ace

With one player, you shored-up two areas of need, and strengthened an area of strength

this is by far the best second round pick

that RS has made for the Texans.

Smushiak will take us to the playoffs in 2009.

nope.

wasn’t much of a contest.

Smushiak will take us to the playoffs in 2009.

Yup

That’s because DeMeco was pre-Rick Smith.

Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

Ah.

Got my years mixed up.

and the words

Casserly picked DeMeco is an oxymoron.

Don’t know if its true, but Casserly is responsible for the DeMeco pick, as the GM.

Smushiak will take us to the playoffs in 2009.

He Will Be A Star in NFL

I think the Texans should trade away there first round pick every year and just start in the second round

We will call him Mr. WildBearCat. and when the season ends he can suit up for the Rockets

Yeah I know

I still wish the Texans would find a big nasty crusty toed Safety with Violent Intentions

I think William Moore will be that nasty dude…the Falcons made a good pick

So does anybody think the Texans will still grab a Safety

by Hangbok on Apr 25, 2009 8:56 PM CDT reply actions

SAFETY!!!!

We need some Help in the Defensive Back Field, No Doubt.

Super Mario

Remember when we drafted Super Mario over Vince Young? So many people whined about it and what happened to all those crys? HMMMM!!!!! Trust in Kubiak! He has a SuperBowl Ring while Steve Young’s QB COACH in 2004 with the 49ERS… JUST RELAX, we’re in good hands….

now that I look at it

I think the Texans quietly sneaked out real nice value at both positions in a draft devoid of much star power talent at both positions of 4-3 DE and OLB. I’m thinking we’re going to be pleasantly surprised come the start of the season.

front seven

is unquestionably solidified. Can’t overstate the importance of this part of the field.

If ASmith > TJ against the run, then let Barwin stay at LDE on all downs. But it looks like they have him pegged to backup Mario and slide to the left side on third (passing) downs.

He seems happier to be coming here than Cushing, so far.

Smushiak will take us to the playoffs in 2009.

I lke this pick

Guy is a hard worker, can move around and doesn’t have Cushings HOMOEROTIC haircut.

by TexansForever on Apr 26, 2009 7:53 AM CDT reply actions

Haircut

Before this season is done, they’ll refer to Brain Cushing as Brian “The Barbarian” CRUSHING!!! His long hair a testament to a Football Field Conquerer! Just give the man a Sword!!!

by SUFFER on Apr 26, 2009 11:12 AM CDT up reply actions

if cushing busts

like many of us think and gets hurt, then we got barwin…like it
