Update from Texans texting service
“The Texans selected Cincinatti defensive end Connor Barwin in the second round.”
So the Texans view him in that light.
Just saw
That Barwin ran a faster 40 at the combine than both Cushing and Matthews.
I like this.

...and he could help our red zone issues if he still plays TE at a high level
I dunno. Just throwing that out there.
I don’t the the Texans expected him to be there.

The more I know about him
The more I like the pick.

Same here.
I think my enthusiasm for Sean Smith has blinded me to the positives on Barwin.
He is a great pass rusher – just not sure if he can hack it that way in the NFL. Obviously Smithiak thinks so, and I trust them.

Not with Sean Smith on the board I wasn't. Heh.
I love his diversity, speed, rushing ability, and I’m intrigued by him as a TE if they want to put him there in situations – but…. but… SMITH!!

Am I right in thinking
That the Cokeboys haven’t picked anyone yet?

Andre Brown
Will be the next running back taken. Texans may have to move up to get him. I will give our draft an A- if we get him.
Frank Bush
“Defensive coordinator Frank Bush said the Texans had Cushing targeted all along because he can play three positions and brings the kind of intensity they want to add to their defense.”
hmmm, it seems this is Frank Bush’s draft like last year was Gibbs’s draft. Bush’s identity seems to be that he wants versatile athletic dudes. Could this mean more blitzing?? Cushing and Barwin are somewhere in the same mold, guys who are versatile and intelligent and can play diff positions. “Football players” what have u… not a bad way to go. Let’s give Frank Bush a chance. He seems to have an idea of what he wants this “attacking” style defense to look like. His picks give us a window in to his philosophy

I agree with this.

Sean Smith
Apparently he played Cover-2 in college? Makes sense why he would be sitting around this long.
I think I know why Cushing was kinda peeved by getting picked by the Texans
it’s cuz we have black players on the team.
I was sure the Pats would take Sean Smith
It will finish their job of fucking us tonight, and they’ve been going DB hard.
Smith will make it to the third? Amazing. We have the 77th overall pick. It would take something along the lines of the 100th overall pick and the 77th to move up to 60 overall. We have pick #112 in the fourth. We’d be 25 pts short on the draft trade chart, but that’s reasonable.
Well, I just got back from work,
And I am surprised. Cushing = bleh. I will give him a while though, but I just never liked his attitude or the whispers. Connor Barwin is a good guy, but we drafted a back up for 2 positions instead of a starter for one.
DBs on board
DJ Moore; Sean Smith; Rashad Johnson.
Giants' great draft
Hakeem Nicks, Clint Sintim, and William Beatty. All three guys were talked about as late first rounders.
Stories of the draft
1. Oakland Raiders…..wow, wow, let’s not even waste our breath.
2. Michael Oher – man, just a sick story.
3. Seahawks: doing the right thing and getting the safe pick
4. SANCHEZ BABY!! #5!!!
really?
i think they picked Moala just to stop Slaton (and Chris Johnson.) plus Donald Brown is goooood
Damnit - there goes sean smith

Well...
if they really wanted him they would have got him earlier. I guess they liked Barwin better.
at least
Bush is giving the appearance of his more pressure mantra.
S.Smith wouldn’t fit that mold, at least as much as the two we picked.
We need a RB2, and soon.
Smushiak will take us to the playoffs in 2009.
Broncos trade again...
They will dick this up somehow.
Gave up their 2011 1st rounder, eh?

I just got off work, so I get to play too
But I don’t like it. Ive never like his attitude, his personality, or his production. He had only two or three sacks from essentially a rush linebacker position playing elephant in the USC 3-4/4-3 blend. He gets injured in the legs all the time, had shoulder surgery, and he looked like he didint want to be here
Connor Barwin
I have mixed feelings about. He is a good kid, but he feels like we drafted a backup TE and a back up RDE.
http://www.nfl.com/videos?videoId=09000d5d80f87f7f
the pick doesn’t seem all that bad nemore. Although I completely agree w/ his rxn to when he found out we picked him. It looked like he was either a) surprised b) nervous c)dissapointed. Hope it’s not ‘c’.
Media markets
The NFL and ESPN basically lost the huge Chicago media market and the huge Dallas fanbase for this draft.
BRB threads > our draft
but our draft has potential.
And we excel in rounds 3-4, so our first 3 picks tomorrow are where we will find our next pro bowl Texans.
Smushiak will take us to the playoffs in 2009.
Final Thoughts
1. Hate Cushing.
2. Love Barwin, only for the talent. I still don’t understand why we took two LBs in the first two rounds.
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...
No...
Because our linebacking corps isn’t nearly weak enough to justify burning our first two picks there. Secondary, or DE, please. Not LB x 2.

I'll wait til camp is over and some games have been played before I come down on this draft.
So far, I’m open-minded to what we’ve done. Excited about tomorrow.
I think Barwin
is tagged for the LDE on 3rd downs and backup SLB/TE.
And we had two good drafts without a 2nd round in ’07 and ’08, so its a bonus pick.
Smushiak will take us to the playoffs in 2009.
new team philosophy
only draft guys who are 6-2, 250ish.
Eleven guys like that who play all positions can stop anyone.
Smushiak will take us to the playoffs in 2009.
well
the mantra for this draft has been “versatility” according to Bush and Kubiak. I think we’re hating for no reason. These picks def have some serious potential. Barwin could very well be a steal, and Cushing has the potential to be a rock solid starter at linebacker. Let’s at the VERY LEAST give them a shot to play on the field before we kill them. I’m on this bandwagon. GO CUSHING!!! and again, let’s take a moment to thank the Good Lord that we are not Raiders fans or else today would be faaar harder to swallow if that were the case.
Update
Anna-Megan Raley is still retarded. Check out the videos on the left side. She literally pronounced Rey Maualuga’s name “Mal-ee-ah-gu.”

I actually like this draft so far
IF we can get a decent DB and RB out of the later rounds.
Cushing + Barwin on D make us alot harder to run against.
