Notes on Duane Brown, Ryans, and OD
Texans LT Daune Brown reported for offseason workouts roughly 20 pounds lighter than he did as a rookie.
Brown started all 16 games after going in the 2008 first round but let up 11.5 sacks, tying him for the most by any NFL left tackle. Houston is counting on Brown big time this season after letting valued backup Ephraim Salaam go. Source: houstontexans.com
The team's official website confirms that the Texans are in negotiations with DeMeco Ryans about a contract extension.
Ryans is skipping voluntary workouts to expedite a deal. The 24-year-old is probably using Lofa Tatupu's six-year, $42M extension as a benchmark. Source: houstontexans.com
Restricted free agent Owen Daniels admits that he considered skipping voluntary work because he remains unsigned, but ultimately did report.
"I’d be lying if I said it hadn’t crossed my mind, but I think this is the best way to go," he said. Daniels, who has a one-year, $2.8M offer on the table, still wants a long-term contract. He may target a deal like Kellen Winslow's. Source: Houston Chronicle
So Brown losing that wieght is good news...OD deciding to go to the workouts another good thing, and starting talks with DeMeco is another good thing!

We were due for some good news, and this is all good EHTR
Brown shedding extra weight is a great sign. Last year in camp, he had a hard time getting acclimated to the Houston heat. He should deal with it better this year.
DeMeco has a new agent and negotiations are starting again. Fantastic news. He has paid dues for 3 years and should be rewarded accordingly.
OD deserves a new contract, but KW just signed the richest TE contract in history. I hope we can get OD locked up for less money than that.

DeMeco agent?
Unless he sent paperwork to the NFLPA on the termination of his contract with the former agent, the NFLPA also has a 5 day “cooling-off” period before signing with a “new” agent. So, unless or until all of these things have taken place, any contract negotiations would be at a stand still.

From John McClain's chron chat on 4/6
FYI: DeMeco Ryans has fired his agent, Kirk Wood. He’s in the process of hiring another agent. I don’t know what that’ll mean in his attempt to get an extension. He turned down the Texans’ last offer in February, and it’s been a dead issue since. Stay tuned.
Seems to me that Wood has a hard head, pun intended. He may be the entire reason that Smith and DeMeco have not yet signed on the dotted line.

Hopefully...
In my whirly bird noggin, I see Demeco cutting the cord because he wants this issue to be done with, and Wood couldn’t or wouldn’t make time to hammer out the deal when Smith came a’calling. Ryans is prolly already sick of hearing/talking about it.
\complete speculation

Nice Post EHTR, thanks for the updates!
"There was a pretty good group of free agent quarterbacks out there and, after studying them all, I liked the fact that he's young and I like the fact he's a mirror image of the guy we have (Matt Schaub) so when we're coaching Matt, we're coaching him, too." - Gary Kubiak on new Texans QB Dan Orlovsky
Matt Schaub = Safety Dan. We're in trouble.

Quick Comment
The HoustonTexans.com site did NOT say that the Texans were currently negotiating with Ryans, only that they were earlier in the season. Those negotiations didn’t result in a deal and DeMeco was unhappy about that.
The clip you have there is from Rotoworld and the summary is not accurate. Sorry to be a bummer.

Duaner
I think Brown will have a good season for us at LT.
I think it is good that he shed some weight, but I hope he trying to get stronger as well.
I’m hoping that the Texas take a late round draft pick chance on OT Alex Boone from Ohio st. to play at Swing Tackle.

Scary thought here...
McNair becoming McLane? I’ve heard too much about contract issues this year with our best players.
