Question of rivalry

This is a question that I posed to Colts and Jags fans recently. I've changed some of the wording to make it fit for you guys. The point is to gauge the levels of rivalry within our division. I mean no disrespect to any of the teams...although the Titans may not see it that way when I present it to them.

Tell me what you think:

Which team out of the rivals in the AFC South is most hated (or disliked, for the less passionate) by Texans fans? And why? For me it's the Titans. Jeff Fisher is so smug, and it's perpetuated by his team. I'm a Jaguar fan, so naturally I dislike the Colts. I could never hate them, because Tony Dungy is such a great man. Also Peyton is amazingly talented and funny...so it's hard not to like that charm. I hate losing to the Colts, but I halfway like the team because of the men that have represented it. The Texans, for me, are like the annoying little brother that has gotten big enough to start winning half the fights that you get into. The Titans, I don't know what it is beyond Fisher, I cannot stand. So how do you all feel? Do you hate the Colts more than the rest, because they've spent so much time on top of the mountain? Is it the Jags? We seem to draw the Battle Red attire quite often. Or could you care less as long as you win? Just curious...

Titans Hands Down

I just can’t stand the titan’s players and coaches attitudes. Example: It is probable that the Texans would have lost to the Titans in the epic underdog win last year had the Titans decided to kick a chip shot (at least for Bironas) for the lead with just a small time left on the clock. Instead Fisher bombed it and Vodka Collins couldn’t muster up enough accuracy to get it done. Thats just an arrogant attitude if you ask me. I dont even need to begin to defend myself on their player’s arrogance.

Jaguars I have a decent amount of respect for but only because they were the only thing giving us division wins for about 3 years :) no offense but no matter how good or bad they are, its generally a good game.

Colts i loathe yet don’t dislike / hate. Year in, Year out, Manning makes me cry like a little girl. I could attribute it to our usual piss-poor coverage OR our lack of a pass rush that then leaves our db’s out to dry against that machine of a quarterback.. However as of last year i can safely say we lost primarily due to the GREATEST comeback engineered by a quarterback in all time. It was quite the show he put on in those last 15 minutes or so i tell you…

Those are MY thoughts on this division. I dont assume to speak for my peers here, but i’m sure they will agree on some points.

Looking forward to not having an 8-8 year!

How someone could think that that comeback was anything other than the ineptitude of Sage Rosenfels is beyond me.

Isn't that what he said?

I didn’t click on the youtube link, because I’m afraid I’ll be directed to the Rosenchoppa, but when I first read his post, I assumed he was saying that Rosenfels engineered the greatest comeback of all time.

The Titans

And the only other team that comes close in my mind is the Cokeboys. I have no problem with the Jags, and while I don’t like the Colts too much, I don’t hate them the way I hate the Tits.

Oddly enough, I have a ton of respect for Fisher. It’s just everything else connected with that buttnugget of a franchise that I can’t stand, starting from the owner on down.

And Houstonians who followed the Titans when they moved to Tennessee are absolutley beneath contempt. The only lower form of humanity are Houstonians who root for Tennessee because of VY. Fuck them.

When I'm on the mic, I'm like global warming, you can't ignore me.

definitely the Titans

Especially after the extreme levels of butthurt the whole organization showed after losing to the Texans last year. It was sweet to listen to as a Texans fan but god almighty, talk about bitter and classless.

Come on dude

Have you done a shred of homework? The Titans were established by ripping the hearts out of Houston football fans. There’s not even a question about this one.

It took my two years to come up with an avatar and sig
and this is the best I could come up with.

…is pretty much how I feel about the Titans as well. Not the least when their fans voted Earl Campbell their greatest player ever.

You talkin to me?

You are the homework, bud. This is it. Titans are the common thread. The majority of answers from the fans of the other teams specified the Titans. Thanks for your time…

Titans

’nuff said.

Except that I hate that team so fucking much its impossible to leave it at that. Take Finnigan’s little attitude saying he was giving Matt Schaub a “kiss” from “you know, the Oilers” last season, acting like the little leprechaun nutswallower he is, just because Andre Johnson torched him all season. That kind of shit pisses me off.

They talk too much shit and try to make things personal. They’re like the exact opposite of the Texans in that regard and most of us like that our plays also exercise good sportsmanship.

I like Fisher though. I also like the Jags to a certain extent. Its impossible for me to root for the Colts but I don’t have anything bad to say about them like the Titans.

I Don't Hate

Rivalry, from my perception, it’s the Titans. I didn’t come to Houston, until they were teamless, in 2001. But, the Texans were on the way! For many reasons, it has to be the Titans, the ex-Oilers. I think in some way, there are some who are happy now, that the Texans took Mario and not Vince, that wanted the now exposed-Vince. The Titans great success last season also gives impetus to the rivalry. Their fat running back Lendale White gives us more reason to want to beat them. Retread QB Kerry Collins…who doesn’t want to see him get chased and squashed by Mario. And, Albert Haynesworth is gone now, but who doesn’t have it ingrained on their brain, a scene of him wrapping up Schaub and bringing his weight down on top of him, causing his eyes to pop out. Rob Bironas, a Texans killer, is easy to curse as he’s lining up to kick a dagger through our hearts in the waning seconds of a game that was looking like overtime. I left out a few names, but Titans, they all are, and the number one rival of all Texans fans, they continue to be!

It will happen

Titans, hands down, not even close for second place

Bud ripped our hearts out. As long as he is breathing, any Oilers fan will consider the Titans public enemy #1.

Rivalry vs Hate

I think you could classify rivalry and hatred as two different things.
The team that Texans fans loathe or hate the most, is certainly the Titans for many of the reasons others have posted.

If it’s a question of rivalry I think the Jags have certainly been our greatest rival. We have knocked the Jags out of the playoff picture, we’ve had some very physical and intense games, and some last second wins. I really felt like the players on both teams didn’t like each other very much. Due to player turnover that may not be the case as much as it used to be though.

The Titans should be our natural rival, but the fact remains they have mostly dominated us over the years. In order to be a true rival I think it can’t be one sided. We split with them last year, and as this franchise continues to get better, I think the Titans rivalry will continue to grow. I certainly can’t stand those bastards.

Ought to be emblazoned on a t-shirt and sold in the Texans Pro Shop.

I hate the titans the most

But you asked about the biggest rival. To me, for it to be a rivalry, there must be hatred each way and each team must have beaten the other team its fair share. The Texans havent beaten the titans or colts enough to be rivals with them. The Texans have beaten the jags enough, but hate is also a part of a rivalry, and i dont hate the jags. I also dont think the titans hate the Texans and thus its not a rivalry because a rivalry must be two sided.

Waiting for the day Houston gets some sports respect

by TexasHoosier on May 28, 2009 10:54 PM CDT reply actions

Nobody really hates us because we never beat anybody enough

Wait a minute, now that I think about it, there are a few Dolphins fans out there that don’t like us all that much because we keep beating them in the dying minutes of games. Don’t know if they consider us a rival or not.

Definitely the Titans Viator.

Although i am not particularly fond of the Jags or the Colts, the texans have a winning record against the Jags (8-6??) and Despite our HORRIBLE record vs indy (either 1-13 or 1-15 not sure) the colts are a very well put together team. Mannings charisma is off the charts. His intelligence is as well. As for The Titans, they have left long standing legacy in Houston. They used to be the Houston Oilers and then the Tennesee Oilers. As a matter of fact this past season Rob Bironas passed none other than Hall of Fame Running Back Earl Campbell for number five on the franchise all-time scoring list. Which I dont think is even slightly fair. Campbell was an Oiler. Bironas is a Titan. Two different franchises. Long story short, due to the Titans ties to the city of Houston and along with some of their players attitudes, (not to mention the few still ticked from the ’06 draft) the city of Houston is in agreement. The Titans.

P.S. I read through the other blogs you posted on the other teams sites and you seem like a stand up guy. Kudos for the way u handled that Bullard47 situation on the colts blog.

Texans!! "Break on thru to the other side!!!!!"
