Cushing's Blog
Check out Cushing's Blog if you have time, he has some interesting tidbits in his two posts so far.
On living in Houston: "The people of Houston have been great to me and I’m falling in love with the state of Texas."
On Playing with DeMeco:"It’s going to be awesome to play next to an All-Pro like DeMeco Ryans and be able to learn from him."
and
"DeMeco Ryans has been a big influence on me. He’s already been a big help. He’s a great pro and somebody I can look up to."
What he's been up to:"It’s boring to hear this, but mostly I’m just staying in my room, learning our schemes and trying to get up to speed as fast as I can. I’m trying to use every waking minute on and off the field to be well prepared for our first game."
He may not be Tim's all time favorite draft pick, but the guy is saying all the right things and seems to be working hard.

Looks like standard Bull Durham type stuff
You know:
“Just want to help the team any way I can.”
“Taking things one day at a time.”
“Just happy to be here.”
Except for this:
Truth is I grew up rooting for the Cowboys.
Uggh.

I saw that, and thought about doing a blog entry on it
…but I just couldn’t. I don’t want to be sad about football right now. The offseason is too long.
Also – grew up in New Jersey – and was a Cowboys fan? Weird.

Cokeboys Fandom
If that doesn’t get people turned against him, nothing will.
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

I was not in favor of drafting Cushing, but he's a Texan now so by default I am a fan of his
but what about him is not weird? I lived in north central Jersey from ‘69 – ’73 and I don’t remember any Cowboy fans; Jets, Giants, Eagles fans and plenty of Cowboy haters. Add it to his list of oddities. Dallas was good when he was a youngster, so I guess he is just a frontrunner. It would be nitpicking to say that I don’t like fake fans frontrunners. I remain hopeful that his play on the field will make all of his oddities non-issues.

Oddly enough
The DC area is absolutely filled with Cokeboys fans. I don’t get it at all.
There are of course plenty of Redskins fans here, but I would guess there are almost as many Cokeboys fans.

That makes no freaking sense at all
The Skins and Cokeboys are rivals, or so I thought. I would be surprised to hear someone say that Dallas is full of Redskins fans.
When I was a young lad growing up in Baytown, and the Cowboys were run by classy individuals like Tom Landry, Tex Schramm and Clint Murchison they were not nearly as easy to hate, even with that “America’s Team” marketing schtick. Jerry Jones, however, changed all that in a heartbeat after he bought the team 20 years ago. Jerry is easily the most despicable owner in the league IMO. At worst Bud Ahole is a distant 2nd.
Oh yeah, I hate Cushing’s Seagal-tail. If he has any smarts at all he’ll shave his head when the summer heat hits HTown.
It took the Astros 44 years to get to the Series, the Oilers-Texans are due to get to the big dance...Go Texans!!!!!

Redskin Fans Are Rednecks
I was stationed in Norfolk during 1982-1983, and watched the Redskins beat the Dolphins in Super Bowl XVII on TV in a local tavern. The Redskins fans were rednecks, predominantly blue collar, and not particularly sophisticated. Their banter during the game was pretty well limited to the following paraphrased statement, repeated ad-nauseum: “‘Skins are gettin’ it! Git it! Git it!.”
I would assume that those sophisticated DC/North Virginia-types who didn’t want to be associated with the checkered table cloth crowd would turn to the Redskins arch-rivals, our rhinestone wearing denizens of the North.

You just said "sophisticated" and "DC" in the same sentence
