Alex Gibbs Won't Follow Howard Mudd

As stated before, longtime Colts Offensive Line Coach Howard Mudd is contemplating retirement because of the possibility of losing his pension.  John McClain is reporting that the coach that is responsible for the same position for your Houston Texans, Alex Gibbs, will not be considering the same exit strategy.

I hadn't even made the connection in my head that Gibbs might have been compelled to leave by the same reasons that have inspired Mudd to, but it is reassuring nonetheless to know that Gibbs isn't going anywhere.  Apparently Gibbs has already "retired" once from the Atlanta Falcons and took a lump sum retirement, which is the reason he was forced to sit out the entire 2007 season.

I don't know about you, but I'll sleep that much better tonight knowing this won't be an issue.

Judging by the lack of comments, this might have not seemed that significant

but Alex Gibbs has only been here 1 year, and a lot of the progress he made with the O Line last year may have been undone if he did not come back for at least one more season. The running game did not start to click right away. I think it was about the 5th game that we started putting it together. From that point forward we saw some steady progress. Gibbs coaching had to be a big part of that. This is great news that he will be back for the ’09 season.

I would like to see Caldwell crack the rotation early on because I think his size and quickness in the middle will make us better. I see him as insurance against Pitt’s potential departure after the season. Gibbs coaching will accelerate his transition into our system.

So you're saying that now I have to think of some witty Sig that will be applicable across all the SBN sites? Go TexanHornStros!

It Means "Recommended"

If you click on the “actions” icon at the bottom of each comment, there’s an icon that says “Rec” that you can click if you want to give the comment a thumbs up. It also works for every post—there’s a rec option there too.

Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

What is this "Thx"?

Just messing w/ you OTD.

To add to what Tim said, if a comment gets 3 or more Recs, then it will be highlighted on the page.

They're Not "Streaks," Beef

They’re frosted tips. And yes, of course I am.
