Slaton Not Looking For A New Contract... Yet
Steve Slaton's new agent Harold Lewis told Paul Kuharsky via email:
"WE ARE ALL SO EXCITED TO HAVE HIM PART OF OUR FAMILY ..WE ALL KNEW WHAT A TALENT HE WAS ON THE FIELD, BUT THIS KID IS EVEN BETTER OFF THE FIELD!!!! OUR ENTIRE TEAM HERE AT NSA TRULY FEELS BLESSED TO HAVE HIM...""OUR HOPE FOR HIM IS THAT HE WILL JUST GET BETTER AND BETTER EVERY WEEK, AND HELP HIS TEAM TO THE PLAYOFFS AND BEYOND ...AND AFTER REALLY GETTING TO KNOW HIM, I HAVE NO DOUBT THAT WILL HAPPEN....OF COURSE WITH SUCCESS COMES GREAT "NEW " CONTRACTS....AND NOTHING MAKES ME HAPPIER THEN THAT!!!!"
"STAY TUNED..."
So what can we take away from this besides the fact that Lewis uses capitalization and exclamation marks like a 14 year old girl texting at the mall? I think Lewis is playing this one smart by not going for the jugular immediately. If Slaton held out I think it would likely get him a new contract, but if they press the issue next off season the value will skyrocket if Stevie Wonder's 2009 production matches that of 2008. Even though that would cost the Texans more money in the long term, it will be beneficial to have one less contract dispute before 2009.

Why do you call it a dispute?
It’s just business.
It will happen

Slaton hired a quasi-literate agent?
Doesn’t seem like a smart move.
When I'm on the mic, I'm like global warming, you can't ignore me.

I like the "OF COURSE WITH SUCCESS COMES GREAT "NEW " CONTRACTS….AND NOTHING MAKES ME HAPPIER THEN THAT!!!!", at least he doesn’t try pretend he’s not the typical money grubbing agent. Seriously, nothing makes him happier than making money? I guess that’s what makes them money grubbing agents and me an electrician.

WELL THAT IS CERTAINLY GOOD NEWS!
OBVIOUSLY I’VE BEEN WORRIED ABOUT THIS 4 MONTHS BUT AT THIS L8 STAGE OF THE GAME I WOULDN’T EXPECT HIM TO HOLD OUT BUT YOU CAN 4 SURE BET THAT HE WILL BE AFTER A BIG NEW DEAL NEXT OFFSEASON, AND THAT’S OKAY BECAUSE YOU KNOW WHAT – I THINK BY THEN HE WILL DESERVE IT!
I HOPE THAT STEVE’S NEW AGENTS ALSO TREAT FACE TO FACE MEETINGS WITH RICK SMITH THE SAME WAY HE DOES HIS TEXTS AND EMAILS! THAT WOULD BE AMUSING AND I WOULD LIKE TO BE A FLY ON THE WALL! OR EVEN IN THE NEXT ROOM BECAUSE I’M SURE YOU CAN HEAR IT LOUD AND CLEAR!
OMG!! LOL!! STFU!! ROFL!! WTF!! TWEET TWEET!!!

I'm speechless
This “agent” does not appear to have the sense that God gives a jackass. Makes one wonder what the previous agent had going on.
It took the Astros 44 years to get to the Series, the Oilers-Texans are due to get to the big dance...Go Texans!!!!!

NO EXUSES!!!!!
I’ll tell you what. we have built our team through the draft, so if Rick Smith s taking care of the salary cap then we should be able to re-sign ALL of our own free agents. We can’t afford to lose any of them if we plan to get better each year.
