Texans Down 'N Dirty: Cure What Ails You Edition

Everyone keeps talking about the Texans having a breakout season, but one key to a better record in 2009 than in 2008 will be the play from the Quarterback position.  Last year fan favorite backup QB Sage Rosenfels got the opportunity to play, but disappointed with a slew of bad decisions that often led to turnovers.  Marc Vandermeer of 610 Sports Radio talked to the official site about the quarterbacks this year and what to expect of the position.  If Matt Schaub stays healthy, the sky is the limit.

Many of you saw the video posted here before detailing the story of Connor Barwin's childhood battle with deafness, but for those of you who didn't, check out ESPN's interview of the second round pick.  Barwin talks about his ability to read lips and how his continued diminished hearing affects his play for the positive or the negative.

Apparently a sports hernia is the reason that Travis Johnson sucks so much.  Johnson announced yesterday that he underwent a successful surgery to remedy the problem, so those of you worried about complications can all breathe a sigh of relief.

Maybe its just coincidence, but John McClain also did a video previewing the Quarterback situation for the upcoming season.  Also from the Chronicle, Stephanie Stradley wraps up her chats with the Football Outsiders' Bill Barnwell.  Their conversations have been extremely informative.

When did he get the hernia – the day we drafted him?

Re: Connor Barwin

In some ways, losing his hearing can be an asset. For one thing, he will be less intimidated by hostile crowds (he may also be less likely to get pumped up by the home crowd, but then again I don’t really notice him having a motivation problem). The other thing is that it will be very hard for him to be drawn offside by an opposing quarterback’s hard count.

Also, much respect to him for being very open about this.
