2010 NFL Draft To Run On Thursday Night, Friday Night, And Saturday
Link here. I don't like this one bit. Doing nothing all day Saturday and Sunday while wildly speculating who would become the newest Houston Texan was a time-honored tradition, and now it's a thing of the past.
Congratulations, NFL. You've virtually guaranteed that no work will be done across this great nation on Friday, April 23, 2010. March Madness now has a sibling in April.

Small error
You mean April 23rd, 2010. Wouldn’t point it out, except to circumvent anyone wanting to be “cute” about it.
:)
Thanks, Whiskey
Fixed it. Coincidentally, that’s not the first time I’ve said “Thanks, Whiskey” this week. It’s just that it’s normally directed at a bottle.
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...
I'll be saying "Thanks, Vodka" in the morning. (not QB related)
I think its great we’re talking about the 2010 draft before 2009 training camp!
In all seriousness, we should all make predictions for what our biggest need will be going into the 2010 draft!
I’ll start by predicting a stud safety.
Bonus prediction (quite vodka related): Chris Brown stays healthy the entire season and contributes to our playoff run. Seriously, if that somehow happens, I want some serious fucking props since I’m the only person on the planet predicting that. Vegas odds of that are 1284 to 1. Hell that’s worth a buck.
Cheers.
If Chris Brown Stays Healthy
I will buy you a vodka drink of your choice. Right after dogs start living with cats, up becomes down, etc.

LOL, +1 to both
In the comments of my RB post, I went with “less likely than Michael Irvin not getting busted for crack again.”

gahhhh
this year it was awful waiting during the day for the draft to start on saturday evening. its just not the same if you cant wake up and immediately turn on the draft. i agree about no work being done on friday, but i can imagine that thursday will be pretty fruitless itself too
I absolutely HATE HATE HATE this.
…for the reasons Tim gave.
There’s just something awesome about sitting at the computer all day on Saturday blogging and commenting on other blogs during the draft, wildly speculating and what iffing – while not wearing pants.
Which is pretty much the same way I spend Sunday during the games.
Wow, I need to evaluate some things.
The point is – by the time prime time rolls around, I’ve finally put on pants and actually gotten something done. This just kind of takes the fun out of the draft. I love that it was an all-day thing. I hate breaking it up.
On the plus side,

Two days is enough
I love watching the draft more than any event I watch all season. It is the greatest. It is the one time of year that every fan can get excited about his or her team and talk about what their team is building. I personally like the Saturday and Sunday format and wish they would leave it alone. The NFL Draft isn’t for everybody but for the people who love it… Leave it alone, PLEASE!!!
Agree
It’s like this move is being made to appease those who may be on the fence about watching the Draft – while taking a huge dump on all of us who are hardcore draft-lovers and like to analyze every potential pick.

You Said It
This is an obvious ploy by Goodell & Co. to suck more casual fans in via prime-time programming, and it’s being made at the expense of the fanatics who schedule that last weekend in April around the draft. This alienates the hardcore fans who have helped make the NFL as popular and year-round as it currently is.
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...
Since I work weekends
I dont mind it that much. I used to have to turn on a display computer at work (I work at Best Buy) and have the ESPN draft tracker on the whole day. Made my work day better though.
BURN HIM!!

When my contract year rolls round,
M agent will definitely be raising my guaranteed money necessary to sign with HDH.
Just saying.
Not trying to leverage the situation or anything.
At all.
Nope.
Rec'd
Brevity is the soul of wit, and such and such.

This will be a fad thing for a couple years
Then interest will wane, ratings will go down and it will come back to the weekend. Just like any other TV show.
It will happen
My fear
Is that they pull the ESPN contract or don’t renew – and it’s shown ONLY on NFL Network. I can only get Time Warner cable where I am right now.

I don't know about the future
but last year you could get the entire proceedings online. Plus, NFL Network is also available on Dish and DirecTV. Problem solved.
It will happen
Did you hear the other rumor?
If this Thursday Primetime thing takes off, they may expand it even more and make it Draft Week, breaking it up into even smaller pieces, dragging it out all week with more filler spots and color commentary, explaining each teams picks and options as the draft moves along.
It will happen
Like I said, I can only get TWCable where I am
My porch doesn’t face the right way for dish.
You can’t get the online DirecTV NFL Sunday Ticket without being a DTV subscriber and also having the home version.

I don't want to argue about it
but you could get the 2009 NFL Draft, live, streaming online this year. I can’t answer about future years. I know you could watch it online because that is how I watched it this year. It didn’t matter who your cable provider was. If I am not mistaken it was through NFL.com.
It will happen
Oh yeah, I get that. Miscommunication.
