Antoine Caldwell And James Casey Sign Four-Year Deals!
Texans agreed to terms with third-round C/G Antoine Caldwell on a four-year contract.
The Texans return their offensive line intact from last season, so Caldwell should be the top reserve on the interior. He figures to take over for center Chris Myers by 2011. Source: Houston Chronicle
Texans agreed to terms with fifth-round TE James Casey on a four-year contract.
The Texans have talked about using Casey at several positions, but he's likely to be limited to special teams as a rookie. He's fourth on the depth chart at tight end and will need to work on his blocking to move up. Ultra-productive at Rice, Casey could be Owen Daniels' successor if contract problems can't be ironed out next season. Source: Houston Chronicle

Anyway, I like that they both got 4 year deals!

I like the 4 year deals too
Now hopefully they don’t start whining about more money in a couple of years like some of the other players.

Great News
Now if Smithiak can just get Cushing and Barwin signed, we’ll be all set. The possible training camp battle that intrigues me most is whether Caldwell is given the opportunity to unseat Myers. I’m guessing he won’t, but it’s one to keep an eye on.
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

You're probably right
but Caldwell has better physical tools and should eventually unseat Myers. I see Caldwell as insurance against unreasonable contract demands next offseason by Chester Pitts, so the Texans really need to see him in as much action as possible to decide if he can take Chester’s place in the lineup next season.
It took the Astros 44 years to get to the Series, the Oilers-Texans are due to get to the big dance...Go Texans!!!!!

Potatoes, Dave Berry's Ordinance of choice.
The Smithiak must see those guys as future potential starters at their positions to sign them to 4 year contracts. They probably both found mostly full potato sacks in the produce section to boot. That’s well past the CBA fubar year too isn’t it?
Sigs, the play ground of mindless philosophers.

Concur
On all counts. And I would speculate that the length of those contracts may well be a talking point in future negotiations with Owen Daniels and Chester Pitts.
