Frank Okam News
Texans DT Frank Okam said he's looking to compete for a starting job after taking advantage of the additional reps he got during OTAs when Travis Johnson was on the sidelines.

That's really good news
I’m looking forward to this. I still think Okam was an absolute steal

See, this is very misleading.
They frame his offseason weight loss as if he busted his tail since the end of the season to get where he is now. That’s simply not the case. According to previous articles on HT.com, he showed up for the offseason program grossly overweight. He was at some kind of ridiculous number – like 360-ish if I remember correctly. It was at THAT point, that he started busting it and in OTAs he had lost the 25.
So, I don’t look at this as him “getting it” and figuring out his motivation, etc – I look at it as he realized that he had let himself go SO badly after the end of the season, that he had no choice but to get on the wagon to save his career.
Either way – the result is the same, and it IS a great thing! I love Frank, and was huge, huge fan of drafting him… it’s just that the facts aren’t exactly what they seem here. In reality, I’m sure the coaches were absolutely LIVID when he showed up for off-season conditioning in the 360s.

agreed on all counts
But he is the only guy on our roster who can absorb blockers. If he can step up, he’d be a huge part of the team’s success.

Big Frank
Could show up at 550 lbs., be unable to move of his own volition, club baby seals for fun, and I’d still prefer for him to see the field over Travis Johnson.
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

I’m a big fan of Frank’s drafting and remain so. Sure, last season, he had a lot to pick up. However, I’m looking forward to see what Bush does with the big fella. This team needs a Heyworth-type presence in the middle, not only absorbing blockers to free up the pass rush, but wreaking havoc himself. We need a disruptor in the middle to start collapsing offenses so the turnovers start falling our way. Frank (since TJ is now seemingly out of it) could just be that key.
