Dunta Contract Update
Good job EHTR; thanks for keeping everybody updated. I agree with EHTR, but no news in this case IS news.
-Jake
The Texans remain far apart in contract discussions with unsigned franchise player Dunta Robinson, according to NFL Network's Jason La Canfora.
La Canfora expects Robinson to play the season on his one-year, $9.957 million tender. Still, he skipped mandatory offseason work and isn't a lock to show for the start of training camp. The Texans guarded themselves some by drafting mid-round corner help, but they need their top cover guy back badly.
Well not much to say here. Just an update...

The dreaded holdout
I wonder how much this will affect his on field performance.

July 15th
If Dunta hasn’t signed his F-tag tender by 4:00 on that date, he can’t negotiate a long term deal with the Texans, till after the conclusion of this season. He can hold out till the 8th game before signing the “tender” and receive the full amount of the F-tag ($9.72(?) million). After that date, he won’t get paid a dime and whether or not he signs, can be F-tag next year and doesn’t receive the year of service. Also, not being signed means he doesn’t count against the 53 man roster.
A game of chicken….

Here's a copy of the Collective Bargaining Agreement

Please direct me to the page where it says a F-tagged player can hold out until the 8th game of the season and still receive the full amount of the F-tag.
The way I read it, according to Article XX, Franchise and Transition Players, Section 2.e. it says…“Salary” means the Total of the Pragraph 5 Salary (reduced proportionately if the contract is entered into after the first regular season game) blah, blah, blah.
I thought I might have smelled BS when I saw that, so I had to stick my nose in a little closer and take a good whiff. Am I reading it wrong?
It will happen

You are absolutely correct, at least IMO
Article XX, paragraph 2e clearly states that the contract is “reduced proportionately if entered into after the first regular season game”. This makes pefect sense to me because the owners would never agree to pay a full salary for 8 games. That would just tell every tagged player that they could sit out the 1st 8 games without being penalized. That’s a ludicrous lose-lose situation for the owner and the team. Furthermore, I couldn’t imagine a scenario that would do more to alienate a player to his teammates than getting a full salary just to show up out of shape halfway through the season.
It took the Astros 44 years to get to the Series, the Oilers-Texans are due to get to the big dance...Go Texans!!!!!

Now is an important time to repeat my contention:
Fuck Dunta.
When I'm on the mic, I'm like global warming, you can't ignore me.

Robinson and contract
If indeed the Texans offerred 23 mil then is a FOOL not to have taken it; he had a(virtually) career ending injury that he was able to come back from( at LESS than 100%) and played only as a mediocre corner. He wants to be paid the top salary of the league in his position; which considering his less than stellar perfomance after the come back, regardless of the injury he has to be able to play every game as the best in the league if he wants to garner the highest pay.
He has choosen to show that he is NO team player and has an inflated idea of his worth and ability. The only player to match his atitude and mind set is Owens and we all know how he tears up a team(his own) while playing for them; and it has come to light that Robinson is cut from the same cloth.
If Robinson wants top money then he should play the 2009-2010 season and show all he IS the best at his position and not just a mouth piece listening to himself rant. While he was a GOOD corner before the injury I have my doubts he was ever the BEST in the league, and had he not been injured I believe we would not be were we are today since that assumption of mine would have been made obvious even to Robinson.
I would like all this contact hassle to come to an end and if it doesn’t put him on the field if he can play out of shape and with timing askew, and he does not detract from the team and players in the season play. If it turns out he is a bust for this season then put him on IR or the practice squad; and franshise him again just to show him whom runs the front office and that the TEXANS DON’T NEGOTIATE WITH TERRORIST OR THEIR DEMANDS!!!!
