Interview with Cushing on Sports Radio 610
I do not know if any of you caught the interview with Brian Cushing on sports radio 610 today...but I did. Now I am not a huge fan of the pick and thought the guy looked like he should be on the cover of a romance novel before his hair cut so I went listening into the interview with a little bit of a bias...I did go in with the thought that listening to the guy speak could change my mind about him and make me realize he is a good guy and going to be a good player....
Welllll....It did the opposite...he had a great attitude about working hard and all that, but the guy just flat out gave out an arrogant interview. I thought it came across as full of himself and thinks that he is going to be some great player when he has yet to take a snap. I don't know...did any one else catch this interview? Was it just my Bias getting in the way? Let me know.

I didn't get that from him
I just got that he is very focused, not about anything but football.
Here is the podcast
I Didn't Catch the Interview
But Cushing reminds me of Lance Armstrong or Jeff Kent. He seems like he’s pretty much all business, and probably not a guy running around slapping people on the back and giving out hugs. It’s only arrogance if he can’t back it up. Otherwise it’s just self-confidence.
Agree with Koz...
If you don’t want the ball in the bottom of the 9th, you probably shouldn’t be playing the game. That said, it’s possible to cross that line of insanity. Take VY, for example….
OMG, give me a break!
What is it with the dislike for Cushing from some people. I hate USC, but if the Texans did draft Reggie Bush in 06’ I would have rooted my azz of for him, because I’m Texans fan. Who would have been a better pick than Cushing at 15? As far as Cushing being full of himself, well I LOVE THAT!!! It shows me he has a mean streak on the field and that he’s confident.

not saying I don't like him
Its just taken time to get over some of the guys i wanted that went early haha, like i said though he is a Texan I will root for him…I was just asking about the interview cause I only caught it half way through
This is a fanblog
and either you’re a fan or you’re not. There is no middle ground on being a fan.
It will happen
no, just no
Blind loyalty is not helpful, either.

nope...
I am a fan of the Houston Texans, I however do not have to like the players on the teams ( Dunta I am talking to you). Now I said I had a bias towards Cushing from the very start because I wanted other players other then him in the draft and like grindcrusher said he has had durability issues…BUT I did also say like many others I will care less about all that come the play offs when he has got a few sacks or interceptions…Its not about being a fan or not….I would not be a fan if I didn’t care about my team…sir.
Can you answer the question, YES, are you a fan of Brian Cushing?
If not, then you are not a fan of Brian Cushing. Didn’t say you are a bad person. Didn’t say you can’t state your opinion. I am a fan of Brian Cushing and I always perk up when someone steps into BRB and says they doubt him. I have seen nothing from the guy other than that he is totally dedicated to blowing through blocks, batting down balls, laying whoop-ass on on ball carriers, and playing team-ball. He has shown every sign of doing everything legally allowed to ready himself to do all of the above. If people want to listen to a snippet of him answering questions on a radio talkshow and conclude otherwise, then ME, as a fan of the guy, I take issue with that. And, until the player proves otherwise, I will act like a fan and I will, with my printed words, support the guy. Y’all who are his detractors, because there are a lot of you, should put your name out there on a list so we can all compare notes at a later date.
Ha!
It will happen
OK
Miscommunication. No, I still do not like Cushing, but I am happy for him to prove me wrong. And I never choose for a Texan to fail unless his name rhymes with “ravis ohnson” or “etey aggins.”

Alright Rip, I can’t argue with your point that you are a fan of Cushing and are sticking up for him…cause yea that is what any fan would do, but sign me up on that list…and probably BFD too…and next to our names put " Happy to be proven wrong" next to our names….But I do have a track record of being wrong about draft picks…thought Williams was going to be bad…Thought Jacoby was going to be amazing…so to your credit..Cushing will probably do good ha
My Name Is Tim
Please add me to your list. I hope that I’m very, very wrong and that Cushing proves you to be very, very right.
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...
I'm kind of neutral trending towards positive on him, myself
But I don’t think most of these people hate Cushing per se. I think they believe that the Texans should have drafted someone else because there are concerns about Cushing’s durability, tackling ability, etc.
I have no doubt that guys like Tim and bfd will cheer like hell for Cushing when he takes the field and will be happy to be proven wrong about him.
I don’t consider that hating him.
When I'm on the mic, I'm like global warming, you can't ignore me.

Prove me wrong, the player formerly known as Vigo
I’d be happy to be wrong about this pick. I don’t like it today, and I may need to change my mind about it tomorrow. But, yes, I’ll root for him.

What TGC And BFD Said
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...
I think the guy is simply just a bad interview...
…at this early stage of his career. He just doesn’t really want to do them, and when he does – he talks quickly and doesn’t elaborate. Lots of guys are like that when they first come into the league… some of them do it forever – like Craig Biggio.

Yea I thought about that after
He is a rookie after all. maybe not cocky but yes a bad interviewer ill agree
All I want to see...
are some clips of Cushing hitting somebody. I think he’s got all the tools/measurements/attitude/etc but I can’t get over the sight of him piggyback tackling opponent after opponent. I don’t expect him to be a hard hitter like Ryans or Dunta, where he blows people up and makes you rewatch the play six or seven times, I’d just love to see him stop someone without giving up 2 extra yards.
Once I see that on a consistent basis, I’m good.

For making mention of that troubling tackling-by-the-shoulder-pads tactic we saw in the pre-draft clips.
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...
Me?
I already signed up for it earlier in the thread.

You're not helping your case
At the 24-second mark in that video, Cushing gets a piggy-back ride from Slaton. For 5 yards.
