How Great Is It That Andre Johnson Is Boring?
In a sports world dominated by outstanding athletes who love to look in the mirror more than play the game, it really makes you grateful to have a player like Texans WR Andre Johnson. NFL Network decided to follow the Texans All-Pro around with cameras for a "day in the life of AJ" segment this week.
While only Texans fans will find any entertainment out of the segment, it made me realize how great it is to have probably the best player at his position in the league, and he isn’t a loud mouth "look at me!" type of player. The league is full of Pacman Jones and Terrell Owens types who make more headlines off the field than they do on it. Sure, they’re terrific players, but you kind of get sick of hearing them tell you how great they are.
Whereas you have a guy like Andre Johnson who dominates every Sunday (except against Nnamdi Asomugha, but he does that to a lot of guys) and you don’t really hear much about him from the national media. Because he does his talking on the field instead of off it. And that is exactly the type of guy you want to build your franchise around. With all the contract disputes going around Texans camp right now, it is nice to know Andre is locked up for the prime of his career. Because Andre leaving is a nightmare I don’t want to have to envision in the near future.

He's the only good thing
Casserly ever did.

Not wanting to give him any credit, I think he may have lucked into it.
Remember when there was talk about the Texans trading up to get Charlie Rogers instead?!

Yikes
I don’t really remember any talk about the Texans trading up from No. 2 to No. 3, but I do remember that many publications had the Lions taking ‘Dre and the Texans taking Rogers; it was widely understood that whichever WR wasn’t taken second overall by the Lions was going to be snapped up by the Texans.
Wow…imagine how much worse the Casserly regime would have looked if Charles Rogers had become a Texan back in ’03.
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

Good call. I get sick of people saying he had a hand in the 2006 draft. The guy was an afterthought by that point.

It’s something I have thought about a number of times. We say he’s underrated (which he is), but a lot of that is because he isn’t the look at me type of player (ie. Randy Moss, TO, Chad, etc.) and I’d much rather have him be underrated and just go about his business professionally than be a superstar with an attitude problem. WR is such a diva position which is why I am a big fan of guys like Andre and Calvin Johnson in Detroit. They’re amazing players and they probably know they’re amazing players, but they’re still modest and treat this game like a job instead of some trash-talking street game.

Agreed
There’s something to be said for an immensely talented player (especially at WR) who keeps his mouth shut and does his job. Almost unheard of, in today’s sensationalized, ESPN-soaked sports culture.

that woman
that did the ESPN first take interview with AJ, kept on repeating that she loves how we have a Superstar like AJ in the NFL and she respects that and wants more of those in the NFL

Even as a Patriots fan,
with other hard working receivers like Randy Moss and especially Wes Welker, I have to say that my favorite receiver in the whole league is Andre. The man is full of class and ALWAYS produces, in one way or another.
Steve Slaton is pretty awesome too, and I was glad to see him succeed in the high level…especially since WV is one of my favorite colleges.
The Texans happen to be one of my favorite organizations in the league. :D
Aqui viene el Toro Venezolano, Carlos Zambrano, a batear...el lanzamiento...A LO PROFUNDOOO...NOO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NOO...DIGALE QUE NO A ESA PELOTA!! GANAN LOS CACHORROS DE CHICAGO!!

Dre ROCKS
Cole did a story on him for yahoosports.com and it was blander than bland – but a good look into who he is.

Best WR in the league
There is no doubt in my mind and shouldn’t be any doubt in any Texans fans mind that AJ is the best in the business. Larry Fitzgerald had a nice playoff run and is getting the nod these days but there isn’t a better WR in this league than AJ and if we do our thing this year I believe the accolades will fall upon him like never before.

Rogers
And it could have drafted Charlie Rogers instead (if the Lion’s would have taken Dre)! Oh gawd imagine how bad we would be!

Imagine how dangerous the Lions could have been with Andre & Calvin Johnson? Their loss is our gain
