Why so few TDs last year?

I'm from Chicago and didn't get to watch many Texans games last year, curious about an oddity...

Your team finished 3rd in total offense last year with 382.1 yards per game.  You've got Schaub, and Slaton, and Andre, and Walter, and Owen Daniels, just loaded with talent.

Yet despite all those yards, the Texans scored just 37 offensive touchdowns, putting them behind teams like the Miami Dolphins, just ahead of my lowly Chicago Bears (35), and well behind a Saints (54) team that got just 30 more yards per game.

I'm thinking of taking Schaub in fantasy, but 24 TDs in 22 games as a starter doesn't make sense to me.  What's the reason for the lack of TDs?

red zone

We were horrid in the red zone last year on both sides of the ball, and it killed us.

Note to self: Insert something witty here.

this is all

that needs to be said. The Texans are good between the 20s but we should all be very cautious otherwise.

Red zone turnovers and/or failure to punch it into the end zone doomed this team last year, but I’m optimistic that things will be better this season. I like Schaub as a fantasy QB a whole lot, and you should be able to get him (relatively) late.

Worst case scenario—draft Kris Brown. He’ll be the beneficiary of any red zone stalls.

Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

Turnovers cost us at lest 10 TDs. Even Andre and Owens lost one just before hitting paydirt. No pounding #2 back to punch with, so no One/Two to speak of. Penalties, dumb ones. I didn’t go look through all the games I recorded last year, but I saw at least thirty different drives that SHOULD or COULD have resulted in TDs.

My opinion is: it’s all part of the curve the Texans are moving through. Let’s hope they punch through that barrier this season. If Brown bulling his way down the last twenty yards is any sort of indication (preseason aside), just having that threat opens up a lot of possipilities. Last season, we were just too predictable inside the twenties.
