Houston Texans Release 3 Players
Rotoworld reports that FB Boomer Grigsby, DE Stanley McClover, and S Troy Nolan were all cut by your Houston Texans today.
Edit by Tim: Nothing too surprising here. Grigsby, as much as I rooted for him, was probably doomed as soon as he got hurt, if not before then. Nolan's departure is slightly more curious, what with him being a rookie and all, but even then, the guy was a long shot to make the squad, even in this secondary. McClover is probably the least shocking of 'em all. Thoughts, BRB?

is waiting on the other shoe to drop....
so we can say GUD bye to sexy rexy a.k.a david carr’s doppledanger! haha
Yah
Or maybe the Bizarro World version of DC. David is home with the wife while Rexxy is doing playmates. But on the playing field, the only difference is that David panics and throws for a 2 yd gain, while Rexxy panics and flings it into triple coverage 50 yds downfield.
Don't forget about Carr's mobility
David might also run for a 3 yard gain at times as well. I still remember a quote on NFL Live talking about Carr a few years ago how he was second in rushing yards by a QB, “Yeah, that’s because he’s running for his life out there.”
I would challenge you to a battle of wits, but you appear to be unarmed.

happy feet.......
funny how he was second in rushing…. considering he took so many sacks. but, at least he’s playing for the Giants, and seems to be doing well. good luck mr. carr……..
Grigsby
I figured the guy wasn’t going to make the team but watching all his interviews and stuff made you really root for the guy. He knows that his days are limited but he is enjoying the ride. I wish him the best of luck. Troy Nolan is a bit more of a surprise, I would have thought that the Texans would have put him on the IR. Here is to hoping that Grossman is the next to get the boot!
I don't get why everyone thinks Boomer was a longshot
The Texans carried 2 FBs for most of the season last year, and Kubiak even said that having 2 FBs to lighten the practice load on Vonta noticeably affected his gameday performances in a positive way.

Two FB's
My thinking is that we are going to carry for DT’s and TE’s this year than in years past, having Casey play FB seems logical considering that I can’t see them cutting him. I just hope we don’t carry three QB’s.
Casey
I think he made Boomer expendable.
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...
Agreed
You can’t make the team if you can’t stay healthy. Here’s to Casey and his versatility.

Kubiak Is A Players Coach
He’s on record as saying if aren’t going to make the team, he’s going to release you in time to catch on somewhere else. Plus, they need to sign guys to fill in for injuries.
In the case of Boomer, he’s out the rest of TC anyway.
i think its possible
boomer gets picked back up by us later on this year…

Man the Casey fan club is getting a little carried away. Casey does make Grigsby expendable, but mainly because FB#2 isn’t that big a deal. Casey hasn’t had enough snaps at FB to say he’s looked good there. When Vonta got hurt they didn’t feel comfortable putting Casey in as fullback so they went with a one back set the rest of the night. Casey has also been doing a good job on special teams which was Grigsby’s forte, so I’m not surprised he got released. Casey’s ability on special teams probably had more to do with Grigsby getting cut than FB play. I didn’t think you could cut a player who was hurt without some type of injury settlement….maybe that part just didn’t get reported.
I’m glad we drafted Casey and was shocked he was still around in the 5th, but he’s being treated like a superstar in many respects already. I get the hometown aspect of it, and I do think it’s pretty cool. The fact is that Anthony Hill could very well see more snaps at TE this year than Casey. Remember we want to run the ball better in the red zone. A blocking TE is a very big part of that, and they passed on Casey to take Hill. Again I want him to, and definitely think he will, succeed. I just think people are getting a little carried away.
I would have thought they would have put Nolan on IR at the least. It wouldn’t have been the first time Kubiak has stashed young players on IR with somewhat minor injuries.

Casey is supposed to be a TE, FB, and LS all in his rookie year? Anything we get from him above special teams and a few catches should be considered a bonus.
Note to self: Insert something witty here.

One More Thing
He’ll go up in the stands and sell beer AND hotdogs when the defense is on the field.
heh
Now THAT’S a value-added proposition.

JJ may underperform himself off the team all on his own
There are enough skill players with hands on this team to make JJ expendable regardless of his upside for being shifty and speedy. He drops punts and he fumbles the ball while carrying it. It hurts to say it, but I think his Texans days are numbered. I think Casey makes the team. If Casey continues to play like we saw in that ONE PRESEASON GAME, then he should make the team regardless of what happens with JJ and I am not sure he is the last guy to make the team, as in, I am not sure they would be cutting JJ to keep Casey.
It will happen
If they start using Brice McCain as a return man, then JJ might really be in trouble. That was the first thing I heard when McCain was drafted
I would challenge you to a battle of wits, but you appear to be unarmed.

Good post
And you’re absolutely right about Hill. I think he will get more snaps – because he was brought in for a specific purpose – to improve our blocking against the 3-4 LBs that were KILLING us last year.
I love Casey, but people are losing their minds a little bit.
Nolan is on IR, by the way – it just hasn’t been updated on the official site yet.

Hometown boy
I am a fan of Casey’s and have heard alot about everything that he can do on the field. I don’t know that I care that he played for Rice and is a hometown boy though, it is cool but in the end all I want is the most talented team possible and it seems as though Casey being on makes us better.
