heh

I actually have a post ready to go re: the 53-man, but I’m gonna wait until after Saturday’s game. Yes, definitely time to start thinking about it.

Note to self: Insert something witty here.

sorry, im kinda lazy

but how many ppl are on your list as yes now, and on the bubble…

by EveryHoustonTeamRox! on Aug 19, 2009 6:04 PM CDT reply actions

Can you tell us who else is on your bubble?

I think your concept is good, but I would like to know who the other bubble players are that your 12 bubble players are competing against. and beating out to make the final 53. The reason I ask is, over the next few weeks, there are bound to be injuries to some of the above players that may inevitably effect which players make the 53-man squad. If you gave us, let’s say, a DL, LB, DB, OL, RB, WR, and a couple of Others who would be the last guy cut at their respective positions to get to 53, that would tell us who you think is battling to make the list of 53 and who might make it when that inevitable injury happens. I’m kinda asking because you went through the trouble of making the list, so you had to go through that process of deciding who to cut, while you were at it. It would also give me some darts to throw at you when giving you that much-wanted criticism. After all, anyone who makes a list has to realize they are opening themselves up to second-guessers.

It will happen

Travis Johnson

Where is he at on this list and do you think he is on the bubble?

by wasteph on Aug 19, 2009 7:06 PM CDT reply actions

Travis Johnson's Bubble

Damn well better have popped.

Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

pop goes the weasel cuz the weasel goes pop! lol

by chrisd21 on Aug 20, 2009 12:20 PM CDT up reply actions

you need more names on the list if we're talking bubble

…anyways, regardless of my previous comments…I think you are carrying too many WR’s, TE’s and C’s. Not enough DL’s and OL’s.

But still want to know who else is on the bubble list. You have to have more than 53 players listed to say they are on the bubble, otherwise they are on the team and not on a bubble.

It will happen

Antoine Caldwell

Why woould Antoine be on the bubble when he is versital enough to play three D-line positions? His ability to move around should make him more valuable not less.

by bigpat on Aug 19, 2009 7:18 PM CDT reply actions

Agreed

No way Caldwell is on the bubble. He’s on the squad.

Quinn

I cant see Glover Quinn being cut…he was making plays all over the place when he was not injured…I would like to see him play more before I set this in stone

by schillingb on Aug 19, 2009 7:31 PM CDT reply actions

Agreed

GQ makes the team. No way he’s cut.

jacoby

im fairly sure he is gonna make the team….. if it’s even between him and jenkins they aren’t gonna take the chance of bringing in someone new… i think JJ has shown maturity this camp, and patience. he deserves a chance to redeem himself.

all drafted rookies make the roster

except Nolan, tho i think had nolan not been hurt he mighta made it

Sorry guys

A late business meeting at Lynn’s Steakhouse and I don’t have the energy to answer all of these tonight. I will respond to each tomorrow.

But overall great thoughts and comments

i think you got 5 safeties

not 4 like u typed…

anyway i believe they dont keep Jenkins but keep Hill …

by EveryHoustonTeamRox! on Aug 20, 2009 7:13 AM CDT up reply actions

Agreed

I see two positions that they might tweek. First I think 4th round pick TE Hill will make them team. I only see them carring 4 safeties so Harrison or Busing won’t make it.

by John S on Aug 20, 2009 7:34 AM CDT up reply actions

Yes, You're correct. 5 Safeties, not 4

But I got the 53 part right.

From what I’ve heard, Hill has been pretty average. and Busing has been carving up on special teams.

by distant_texans_fan on Aug 20, 2009 3:09 PM CDT up reply actions

So here is my breakdown of the whole team.

there are a total of
41 who I think will make the team
21 who are on the bubble
12 of which make it in
9 pf which don’t make it in
20 with little to no chance

for a current total of 82 that includes 2 extras TJ who is not on the current official roster and Boomer who just got released
That said I struggled with the group of first year Tackels and if any of them had a chance of making the team.

I also struggle with which Safeties and Cornerbacks will make it to the final 53.

So here is the full list

Tough choices...

I’d like to see Hill kept to work with…a six six TE with good hands and blocking skills may come in real handy if we can’t keep Owens—god forbid. Also, the Sports Animals have been doing a lot of talk of late about Jacoby Jones possibly not making it. I’d hate to see the kid fizzle, but, frankly, there are at least two other options pushing him for his spot and doing a more consistant job of it.

I loved it when he ran to his momma twice, it was a great moment. But fumbles and weak shoulders and just plain ole incosistancy is no longer acceptable if we’re gonna go up a notch or two and compete for the Big Dance.

by SBond on Aug 20, 2009 11:22 AM CDT reply actions

I would hate to see....

….JJ get cut. As much as he muffs most of the punts going his way, dude definitely has skill when the ball is tucked safely in his arms.

by Jordann on Aug 20, 2009 11:48 AM CDT up reply actions

I would love to see them keep Hill

Because I think if they cut him he wont make it back around to the practice squad. But that said there are going to be alot of tough choices in this line up. Do you keep 5 or 6 WR and how many RB’s do you keep, and FB’s also CB’s

by Texans-Brocos on Aug 20, 2009 11:57 AM CDT up reply actions

lol....

yeah…… that’s one of those classic houston sports moments…. right up there with mario’s kiss of death… or the valentine’s day massacre!

by chrisd21 on Aug 20, 2009 12:29 PM CDT up reply actions

There is absolutley no way in hell that Anthony Hill gets cut

He was drafted for a VERY SPECIFIC purpose – to improve our short yardage and red zone play. He’s there to block the 3-4 LBs that have murdered us in the last couple of years. Any pass-catching we get from him is gravy. We already have GREAT catching TEs. OD, Dreessen, and potentially – Casey. But OD is a good blocker, Dreessen is meh, and Casey is yet unproven in that realm. Hill is THE guy who is going to make the most impact as a rookie on the offensive side of the ball, IMO. He’s young and he’s not going to be GREAT right away, but he’s here to do mainly one thing only – block block block. He’s a MORTAL LOCK to make the team.
