Opening Day Open Game Day Thread: New York Jets @ Houston JUGGERNAUT

It's like Christmas, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day in September.  It's like an ice cream sundae with a beer on top.

Happy happy, joy joy.  Get up and dance!  Football is back!

ah hem.... (clears throat)

Twas the night before opener….
and all thru the house…
no texan fan could sleep…
which angered plenty a spouse.

I was awake at 730 this morning

…and I was WIRED like I’d smoked crack in my sleep.

I’m wearing white, too. I’m a football nerd.

And I’m so, so ready. I can’t believe it’s finally here. That win against the Bears seems like it was a year ago.

My daughter...

decided she wanted to wake up at 5:45. Rather than do the usual “wait her out and see if my wife gets up first,” I popped out of bed, grabbed the kid, and fired up NFLN. I almost overdosed on Baldinger and Sharpe before 7am.

Yay, sports.

Seriously.

I was awake at 7:30… in China. I’ve been up and amped for about 16 hours now. Somebody needs to invent some other ways to pass time in this world.

Hava.

I think it’s similar to Slingbox. Had to Proxy around it (apparently Texans football is harmful to glorious nation and great exalted leader). But hopefully it holds up today.

Stuck at work...

Sitting in this office, champing at the bit, radio tuned in, but not so tuned as my itching need for the damned kick-off already.

One more opener…one more chance for some satisfaction—at long last—or another round of ‘oh my god!’ when we make dumb-shit mistakes and stupid penalties.

C’mon fellas! Just hold your own this time! Last chance to start out shining and there’s no storm to give an excuse about. Just do it.

I could not get to sleep last night. Like I was 8 years old waiting for Santa.

On my way to Coaches Pub in midtown at 11am to drink and be merry and watch a Mario beat down of the rookie QB.

Week 1

Finally, it’s gameday. Texans 28 Jets 12. I’m gonna hang em out on this one. I hate rookie QB’s on the road.

by txnpwrlifter on Sep 13, 2009 10:56 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Is anyone else confused by the inactives??/

BOTH Chris White AND Antoine Caldwell.
Anthony Hill – I thought he was going to save us from 3-4 defenses?
DelJuan, Reeves, Wilson, and Walter are hurting, so no surprise there.
Orlovsky is the #3.

Hill is young, so it doesn’t SHOCK me, but I thought he was here specifically to block. His receiving doesn’t mean dick.

But I’m SHOCKED that BOTH White and Caldwell are out. WTF? If Myers aggravates that ankle, who is our center? Studdard?? Or can Briesel play center?

Weird. I guess this also means that Chaun Thompson is healthy?

by HoustonDiehards on Sep 13, 2009 11:02 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I guess Kubes thinks the line will not get any injuries this year… just like last year, ya know?

by NormZinNJ on Sep 13, 2009 11:06 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

No chance that happens

But hopefully he’s right for this one game at least.

Just heard on the radio that if something happened to Myers, Briesel would play center.

by HoustonDiehards on Sep 13, 2009 11:14 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Don't be surprised if...

…Myers starts getting pushed around too much that we see Caldwell step in. I agree, that kid is proto-perfectly sized to take on 3-4 nosetackles. Whether or not he’s ready to do just that must be the question now, huh?

by SBond on Sep 13, 2009 11:09 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Step in when? He can't - he's inactive.

I hope the extra weight that Myers put on shows up in his play… because Kris Jenkins is no friggin’ joke when he’s on.

by HoustonDiehards on Sep 13, 2009 11:36 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Inactives

Texans declared third QB Dan Orlovsky, WR Kevin Walter, TE Anthony Hill, DL DelJuan Robinson, C Chris White, C Antoine Caldwell, DB Jacques Reeves and DB Eugene Wilson inactive.

Orlovsky lost out to Rex Grossman for the backup QB job. Walter’s hamstring wasn’t good enough to go, so Andre’ Davis will get the start.

interestingly enough

during training camp i woulda thought all of these guys would be active…reeves, walter, wilson all out due to injury but orlovsky and robinson i thought were locks….Hill White Caldwell were also pretty much guranteed…i guess we got some nice depth

We won pretty comfortably… also the game where Mario recovered a fumble and returned it for a TD!

I am higher on Cushing than my DGDB&D lads

But he got juked and frozen by Sanchez. He looked shocked that he had a path to Sanchez in the first place. I’ll chalk it up to rust.

Jets have two straight 3rd down conversions

from passing plays. Neither team has ran the ball well outside a Chris Brown 1st down.

Every pass he completes, Sanchez gets more confidence

Meanwhile – Matt Schaub is getting the living shit kicked out of him.

Andre

Needs to be the focus of the next drive. Couple quick slants so schaub isn’t in Ben taub by the half

by AllenOU on Sep 13, 2009 12:35 PM CDT via mobile reply actions   0 recs

yeah...

need to work Vonta into that middle to help subdue Jenkins

Schaub

Time to watch Schaub get his ass kicked again…Maybe we should get Big Ben as our qb if they are going to get hit all the time. He is used to playing against defenses like this.

We should put Grossman in for one series

Then let the NYJ linebacks tire themselves out with back-breaking hits on him. When they throw Schaub back in, it’ll be easy pickins.

too many mistakes on defense…
no successful defensive pressure
