Around SBN: The Worst Team Ever Projected?

Under Construction, No One Watchin', Division Domination!

Tebow-sweepstakes_medium

Afterall, the Jags aren't even playing for the win, they're playing for Tebow!!!  -  Rip Jersey

via lennyfromindy.mywnde.com

This is an official "rebuilding" year for the Jaguars. I read it on jaguars.com, written by senior editor Vic Ketchum, so it must be official.  In that discussion, Vic likens the Jags to the Pirates, and for those who aren't in the know, the Pirates have been in rebuilding mode for the past 17 years!!!...not the analogy I would want to hear if I were a Jags fan! On the other hand, being a Texans fan, I wouldn't mind watching the Texans treat the Jags like a door mat for the next umpteen years or so. Wouldn't bother me at all.

The Texans aren't the only team in the AFC South with question marks in their defensive backfield. This week, the Jags signed rookie cornerback William Middleton (7th Rd - Atl) from Atlanta's practice squad and rookie free agent safety Courtney Greene (5th Rd - Sea). I would consider this rebuilding from the bottom...

With one major exception, the Jags are young at wide receiver and getting younger; the exception being 33 year old Torry Holt, coming in from St. Louis. Gone are Matt Jones, Jerry Porter, Dennis Northcutt, and Reggie Williams. Holt and Troy Williamson stepped in as WR 1 and 2. Now, Williamson is lost for the season with a shoulder injury and as many FFL players know, Mike Sims-Walker has stepped in for Williamson and if it wasn't for my terrible Waiver Position, I would have picked him up this week for my FFL team The Whoopie Cushings! Dang it all! Filling out the Jags roster at WR are Mike Thomas (R), Jarett Dillard (Rookie, of Rice fame!) and Tiquan Underwood (R). Watch out for Dillard everyone! He's the NCAA record holder for TD's, he will be activated for this game, and playing in his hometown, he will be looking to get on the field to hook up for a long one!

Did you know there is a team fanbase that is clamoring for Tim Tebow in next year's draft? Yes, there is! Yes, it's the Jacksonville Jaguars! Many are thinking the same. And, it all makes sense for the Pittsburgh Pirates of the NFL, oh heck, even people in Pittsburgh think it's a good idea! Word on the street; if the Jags can lose 11 or 12 games, owner Wayne Weaver feels the team will be in the right draft position to get the Floridian college phenom. Mr. Weaver is already printing up next year's season tickets for big-time fans of the current Gator, working on a third national title and second Heisman Trophy. Besides, everyone knows that David Garrard isn't the answer!

Sitting on the bench, waiting for Garrard to falter is Luke McCown, recently from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who has seen the Texans once already this preseason, although that night it was from the bench, also, so his vantage point for this game shouldn't be much different.

The Jags are looking at the Texans' NFL last place ranking in rush defense and thinking that this is the week that their running game anchored by their two rookie tackles Eugene Monroe and Eben Britton breaks out. Meanwhile, in Houston, I won't deny that I am looking at the Jags' dismal running game and thinking that this is the week that the Texan's D-Line breaks out! One way or the other, I smell a break out! I am putting my money on the Bush-Machine finally getting it together and stopping the big plays, covering the screens, and plugging the gaping holes that Maurice Jones-Drew is day-dreaming about right now.

Here's some good news for Jags fans! Even if the team loses, at least their fans will get to see the game on television! Last weeks 30-17 home-loss to Arizona was blacked out when only 46,520 of the 67,164 seats were sold...not sure if they were filled. Arizona fans, who did see the game, said, "looked worse than the good ol sun devil days!"

Okay, I want to state here and now, that I expect this Texans team to go out this Sunday, build on the statement that they put out there last weekend on another division rival, but take it one step further and step on a jugular or two! This Texans team has to declare their dominance in commanding fashion. No big plays! No missed assignments! No giving away bobbled balls out of the air! Just punch-mouth football, Man!!! I'm calling it, 28-3, strong!...as the Texans go 2 and 0 in the AFC South! Afterall, the Jags aren't even playing for the win, they're playing for Tebow!!! Hahahahaha!

lol

nice. since we’ve suffered so long it feels good to not be the whipping boys in our division. at the same time, i hope that the Texans really have progressed past the point where we fall into trap games. hell, im more nervous about this game than i am about last week…

lol yea

i had zero hope going into Tennessee so now that i have hope, im scared shitless. Jags always put up a fight. I’m hoping Slaton has his first good game. 3 fumbles and less than 100 yards rushing in 2 games is awful. Typically he has done well vs. the Jags so i can only hope. also very excited to have Pollard in our secondary. dunno when that would be but im damn ready.

Looking forward to not having an 8-8 year!

re: Jags always put up a fight

We’ve almost always been the underdog in the series, and the games have been close, good games. So I think they have always played poorly against us, or we have stepped up.

This week may be the first time we’re supposed to beat them. So, yeah, I’m scared too.

Smushiak will take us to the playoffs in 2009.

This weekend sets the tone for the season

2-0 in the division. Beat a team we’re supposed to beat, a week after an emotional road victory. A chance to make adjustments on defense and show that the flukes last week were just flukes, and not coaching deficiencies.

or

1-2, can’t win at home, with severe coaching problems (can’t get the team ready to play).

Kubiak better have his boys ready to play. I’m not ready for the latter scenario.

Smushiak will take us to the playoffs in 2009.

Dillard isn't a burner.... that's why he slipped to the 5th round...

He’s average speed with average hands…. maybe he’ll show up, but I doubt it…

Sorry for that, it's been corrected

I’m hoping Dillard doesn’t show up. I will say he has some pretty dependable hands, though, being the NCAA record holder for touchdowns. You don’t beat out the likes of Larry Fitzgerald and Randy Moss if your hands aren’t dependable.

I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?

BTW... the Texans are a finesse team (everyone knows that)... who you gonna punch in the mouth...

maybe a division II college team… nobody in the NFL (not even the sissy colts), is scared of the Texans physicality…period…

Really?

Ask the Titan’s about that.

I think the Texans can be physical.

I have seen them physically stand up to the Titans the last two times we’ve played eatchother. Some weeks we do look like a finese team but other weeks we do punch people in the mouth.

If carrots got you drunk, rabbits would be fucked up.

I still can't get over the idea that people want Tebow

Will these people never learn?

I wouldn't call

A 34-31 win isn’t “punching someone in the mouth”. Not to discredit the texans win, but that’s more like an offensive shootout, due to the fact that the titans defense isn’t what is once was. They’re old at the DE spot and they don’t have their monster in the middle. That being said I don’t think the jags or the texans will be doing any punching of mouths this season, and that’s coming from a huge jags fan.

Maybe you didn't know

Two players were fined for doing just that…

I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?

by Rip Jersey on Sep 26, 2009 11:58 PM CDT up reply actions

I wouldn't judge it by the score

If you were to watch the game, however, you might have a very different opinion of the supposed softness of the Texans.

I think come Sunday night
