Open Game Day Thread: Jacksonville v. Houston
Jacksonville Jaguars at Houston Texans, Sep 27, 2009 12:00 PM CDT
Life got a bit hectic this week, so I didn't get to throw up my usual "Three And Out." Here's an extremely abbreviated version:
1. Matt Schaub: 26-32 for 291 yards, 2 TD, and 1 INT.
2. Antonio Smith gets his first sack as a Texan this afternoon.
3. Your Houston Texans are no longer ranked last against the run come the conclusion of today's game.
PUT YOUR NAME ON IT: Texans 28, Jaguars 20.
On to the purpose of this post...leave your pre-game, in-game, and post-game witticisms, criticisms, and hate mail in the Comments below. GO TEXANS!

vrs. jags
i dot think this will even be close . i think houston opens a tx size can of woop ass and blows the jags out of the stadium.
Texans 31 Jags 24
This is always a tough game, regardless of how poor either team is over the season.

1) David Garrard is kidnapped before the game by Florida vigilantes on swamp boats and replaced by Tim Tebow. No one seems to notice until the game has already started.
2) Tebow manages to run up 15 points on the Texans (one touchdown, two field goals and one safety – he also starts as NT) before the Texans figure out the best way to stop him – Amobi Okoye whispers into Tebow’s ear that he’s a Zoroastrian and Tebow spends the rest of the game on the Texans’ bench trying to convert him.
3) Meanwhile, the Texans running woes (both on offense and defense) are erased when they line Frank Okam up in the backfield and have Steve Slaton play NT. Okam runs for 240 yards and 3 touchdowns including one ridiculous play where he runs from his own 35 to the house while breaking 11 tackles – one from every Jag on the field – and then attempts to mimic the Lambeau leap, killing three fans (including Jacoby’s mom). Jacoby is so enraged at the death of his mom that he promptly muffs every punt and kick he attempts to field. Meanwhile Slaton racks up six tackles, six sacks and six fumble recoveries, causing Tebow to give up his attempts to convert Okoye and move to California to take up surfing and live on the beach.
Texans win, 666-15.

Quick thoughts
I didn’t get a chance to post yesterday, and I don’t want to bump this down…
I think it’s going to be another high-scoring battle. MJD has the same potential to run all over us as did Johnson, and Garrard has a tendency to play awfully well against us.
Fortunately, they’ve had as hard a time pressuring the QB, and I don’t think that changes today.
Things I’m looking for:
1. How much do we blitz? We showed little aggressiveness last week.
2. Defensive scheme: Are we going to stack the box and force Garrard to beat us?
3. Do we see the old Steve Slaton/offensive line?
4. It’s become painfully obvious that the way to shut down our offense is to pressure Schaub. How much heat does JAX bring?
5. How, exactly, willl our CBs embarrass themselves this game?
Guess: Texans 38, Jaguars 31.
Note to self: Insert something witty here.
One more prediction
Not only does Jacoby NOT put one on the ground, but he takes one to Mom.
Note to self: Insert something witty here.
so you're saying
he bobbles it, the Jags dude catches it, then HE muffs it, and somehow JJ picks it up and takes it to the house?
Or is Mom on the 20 yard line today?
Smushiak will take us to the playoffs in 2009.

I'm thinkin' Kubes finally figures out

And Schaub builds an early lead 17-0. From there, Slaton kills and we win 34-16.

He was playing
really smart, actually. If he is too aggressive on Garrard, then it is a passing touchdown. Obviously, he was looking for that, but he needed help, either way.
Playsided DE
quite possibly should have had Garrard.
Garrard
His runs killed the D at Jax last year in that shootout
He has been
susceptible to the bull rusgh since he came in. In 2007, when Pitts and Chris White both got hurt, and he came in for a play or two, the Titans ran a stunt, and he missed his assignment on one play. The next play he was shoved into the backfield.

I don't think that's accurate
We’ve made more stops for no/negative/short gain than we did last year.
But we seem to be giving up an alarming rate of big plays.
This is a shame, because I don’t think there’s anything the Jags can do on offense that we shouldn’t be able to stop.
Let’s hope our halftime defensive adjustments are as effective as they were last week.
