Interesting thought about Kevin Walter
As I was reading the 2010 Free Agent Thread I had one thought pop into my head.
- Is it possible that the texans avoided KW this season so his stokc would be low in hopes that they could sign him next year without much comeptition?
I think it is possible that Schaub was told so and only to throw to Kevin Walter either in close games or when he is wide open.
Anyway that was just a thought that popped into my head!
What say you?

What kind of bush league operation do you think the Texans are running?
ridiculous.

I think it has more to do with JJ
Who has developed into a Number 2a receiver. By putting him in the slot against a #3 DB and near AJ, who would be double covered, JJ has been a better target than KW.

There Were Several Reasons
KW was out a couple of games, and he wasn’t an unknown anymore. I would also venture a guess that KW received more attention after OD went to IR, and maybe also took over some of the shorter routes.
And as you noted, JJ emerged. A lot of other guys saw their yardage increase, too (though Schaub threw for more yards, he also spread the ball around to more receivers).
I dunno guys it would explain a lot, what with Schaub holding the ball so long...
Schaubs Mind during a play:
Snap
1…2…3…
AJ…..damn covered
OD….covered
K-Dub….open…too expensive….
Brown….OPEN!! SHIT FUMBLE!

Large gaping holes in this theory...
1. Kubiak’s job as the future HC was questionable at times this year, so I don’t see him handcuffing his QB in such a way.
2. Your theory means that Teh Schaub would be taking the chance of sacrificing his own statistical numbers by not using one of his 3-4 receivers on a play.
3. If Schaub was not “allowed” to throw to K-Dub, then you are also asking him to potentially sacrifice his own health by taking hits that wouldn’t be necessary if he throws to Walter.
4. Paris Hilton’s vag.
If the Treasury Secretary doesn't have to pay taxes, then why do I?
Also...
KW was hurt much of the year, or at least banged up.

Possibly
In Kubiak’s scheme, the WR2 seems to have a lot of blocking responsibilities on run plays. Walter has an obviously huge advantage over JJ in this sense. Thus, yeah, I could see Walter returning if the money is right.
Plus, Walter will play the year at 29, so he has age working against him. 2008 will likely be an outlier for his career. However, he’s a great fit in this system, and I think he knows this.

all of the above
Injuries probably resulted in not being targeted as much this year. Plus, yes, his role is as a blocking WR when the play comes his way. Oh, heck, AJ is a good run blocker, too, when he is in on the play. I think Walter will be resigned. He is valuable to this team more than any other. He fits. I just don’t see another team stepping forward and paying him big money to lure him away for their system.
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?
I can’t fathom anyway this is even remotely true. Schaub would never go for it actively and Kubiak would never specifically game plan to NOT throw to one his more consistent producers when his job was on the line.

I agree with this
However it is very easy to game plan and just make KW the 3rd of 4th read, or maybe just the hot read incase there is a blitz then he would have lots of catches but not so many yards.
That said, You are a moron if this is how you build you game plan, you game plan the plays you thing give you the best chance of winning period!
