Big Texans News and Thougts

Mario Williams - DL Jan. 4 - 4:43 pm et
Texans RE Mario Williams will have his shoulder scoped this offseason.
The procedure will probably happen by the end of the month, and not threaten Williams' status for OTAs. Mario's nine sacks in 2009 were his fewest since his rookie year, but he played hurt all season and has been snubbed previously. He's still one of the game's top-ten all-around defensive ends.  Andre Johnson - WR Jan. 4 - 2:49 pm et
Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson became the first teammates since 1998 to lead the league in passing yards and receiving yards.
Johnson also became the second receiver in history to lead the league in yards for consecutive seasons, joining Jerry Rice. Schaub's 4,770 yards were the sixth-highest total in history as the offense set team records for points (388) and yards gained (6,129). Source: houstontexans.com Related: Matt Schaub
Arian Foster - RB Jan. 4 - 2:42 pm et
The Texans offensive line is pulling for Arian Foster to remain the team's feature back.
The running game finally clicked for the first time when Foster took over, and the offensive line wants him "toting the rock." It's hard to picture Steve Slaton regaining the early-down job, but the Texans may look to bolster the position in the draft to add stability. Source: Houston Chronicle Related: Steve Slaton
Jacoby Jones - WR Jan. 4 - 2:32 pm et
Coach Gary Kubiak suggested that Jacoby Jones' future is as a starting receiver once he gains consistency.
"If he ever settles down with consistency," said Kubiak, "this kid could be a starter and be a heck of a player in this league. I told Jacoby he has starter ability. I told him he has to think that way." Similar to Robert Meachem, Jones is a dangerous playmaker in need of an increased opportunity. Hold on tightly in Dynasty leagues because Jones is a threat to Kevin Walter's job. Source: Houston Chronicle Related: Kevin Walter

That's all from Rotoworld.com

Also read there that the Jags want to Part with FS Reggie Nelson and DE/OLB Quentin Groves...Now I would be up to signing both of those guys. I think Nelson can be a big answer to our FS problems. I loved him coming outta college and i think he can have a Pollard like turnaround. Groves could be great for depth. He struggled this year due to Jax's change in DEF schemes...Im up for both of them signing...How much worse can Nelson be the Busing.

Nelson cant be worse than Busing

But he is probably worse than Eugene Wilson. Wilson played alot better with Pollard next to him and I think it is his job to lose going into camp.

Mario getting his shoulder scoped is no surprise.

The stats about Schaub and Andre are awesome and Schaub posting the 6th best passing yardage season in history only furthers his Pro Bowl snub.

Foster ran hard and hit the hole well (dont tell me that doesnt matter, there was a clear difference between Foster’s running style and Slaton’s this season), if we dont draft a RB early I think it will be Foster’s job to lose.

I like those comments about Jacoby. Hopefully his late season experiences (the benching and then the playing well) will help focus and mature him. I would love to have JJ opposite AJ with Anderson in the slot if JJ plays like he did the last two weeks. What the team does with Kevin Walter will be a sign as to how much they think Jacoby has matured.

I disagree

in that Wilson is old as shit and in no way has the coverage skills of Nelson. Nelson was on the verge of becoming a star before Gregg Williams showed up, installed the dumbest defense imaginable for Jax’ personnel, and seemed to think Nelson could be both Bob Sanders and Sean Taylor, depending on down and distance.

Yah, I was about to post this

He’s 29. Hardly “old as shit”

My bad

I was thinking of Ferguson’s age when I said that.

Still, and now I’m just thinking out loud, I wonder how quick the typical fall-off is for a FS once he hits the wrong side of 30?

Lott played deep into his 30s I believe

With 9 1/2 fingers. Someone with 10 fingers should be able to play till 40 imho.

While I'm fine with buying low on Nelson

I am not thinking to myself “Man, Reggie Nelson, thats the panacea for this defense. Not like that crappy Eugene Wilson.”

i agree

i like Eugene Wilson, dont get me wrong…i think tho Nelson is better and I would love to have Wilson as a backup and then Barber as backup for Pollard and I think I could actually say that Im satisfied with our safeties

No, I don't think he's Dr. Bone's Quick Fix Miracle Ointment or anything

but an upgrade is an upgrade is an upgrade.
