BREAKING NEWS: Brian Cushing Named Defensive Rookie Of The Year

Tip o' the cap to grungedave for alerting me that the Texans' 2009 first round draft pick was VERY convincingly (and deservedly) named DROY.

Congratulations from BRB, Mr. Cushing. I knew you'd pan out.

Awesome!

I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?

by Rip Jersey on Jan 5, 2010 10:20 AM CST reply actions

Excellent

Now if only the Texans can have another USC defensive rookie of the year next year…..

by clarky1661 on Jan 5, 2010 10:22 AM CST reply actions

if thats supposed to be Taylor Mays

than we probably wouldnt have Bernard Pollard on our team anymore because they play the same position

From Every Level

Brian deserved it. Most interceptions and passes deflected from a non-defensive back, 5th most tackles among ALL players, and 2 forced fumbles and 5 sacks? The dude was a COMPLETE player – should be in the running for DPOY even if you ask me.

my guess

is thats Revis’s award.

by nolander on Jan 5, 2010 10:35 AM CST up reply actions

he or woodson. Cushing will probably get consideration but those two have been amazing

two words

Brian Russell

Want another picture of him tackling a Texan? This time he wasn’t playing for them at the time, at least.

Amazing stuff!!

I will continue to wear my Texans Cushing jersey proudly here in San Diego.

by Jahon on Jan 5, 2010 10:42 AM CST reply actions

Where in San Diego

Do you watch the Texans. I thought I was the only fan out here in SD…I’ve seen like one other. I wear my Slaton jersey (frown).

I play real sports...Not try to be the best at exercising.

by wescox10 on Jan 5, 2010 2:06 PM CST up reply actions

North County

I am in Carlsbad. What about you? I usually go to a bar on the cusp of Oceanside and Carlsbad called “Fenway’s”.

by Jahon on Jan 5, 2010 2:13 PM CST up reply actions

Downtown here

I usually hit up a bar called “Redzone” on fifth and C street. Its a pretty nice place. I can’t believe we don’t have a Texans bar out here. They have Steelers, Philly, Green Bay, Pats bars…etc. I know with all of the military we have to have a lot of Houston fans. Might have to hit you up next season.

by wescox10 on Jan 5, 2010 8:28 PM CST up reply actions

I'm down

I moved Downtown from Rancho San Diego and used to go to “Pressbox” in Rancho…Pretty nice place. We need to come up with something and round up some of our fans.

When I said "out here" I meant San Diego (not east county lol just in

case there was confusion) Maybe we can make some kind of post before the season and come up with a place to watch games.

Thirded, hated the pick last April

and REALLY glad I was wrong. Completely wrong. Couldn’t have been more wrong. Love the guy now. Plays banged up ALL YEAR LONG. Misses all of camp, barely practices the entire season and is a 1 man wrecking crew on Sundays. I salivate dreaming about how good he can be in 2010 if his body will allow him to get more reps off the field.

It took the Astros 44 years to get to the Series, the Oilers-Texans are due to get to the big dance...Go Texans!!!!!

by The Night Owl on Jan 5, 2010 11:44 AM CST up reply actions

hmmmm

I’m still not convinced that Cushing doesn’t suck. I mean…….. when he starts jumping on the pile 5 seconds after the play is over to record a cheap tackle like Super Bowl Champion Ray Lewis… maybe he’ll deserve these accolades! Maybe.

by grungedave on Jan 5, 2010 2:53 PM CST reply actions   2 recs

maybe...

Cushing just arrived too late to accuse Trent Green of cheapshotting Travis Johnson….

I'm wrong more that I am right on draft picks

But it feels good to be right about this one.

A request

Please don’t use “rip” and “asshole” in the same sentence. It causes BFD to have PTSD flashbacks to rushing a frat.

Completely unintentional. As for BFD, he has a mind of his own.
