Chiefs Fan Going to Chiefs @ Texans. Southern Hospitality Needed.
Howdy. I will be making my way to H-Town (from Aggieland) with some friends to catch the Chiefs vs. Texans. I am originally from Kansas City and unfortunately know nothing about Houston. I was hoping to get a little feedback before heading out and I thought you all would be a great start.
My Questions are as follows and everyone else feel free to post your questions and answers in the comments. In addition, I will be putting this up on Arrowhead Pride, the SBN Chiefs site, and pointing some folks over.
First off, my tickets were purchased in-absentia and this ruled out a parking pass (couldn't shell out the ~$50 it would cost to buy one online). So I will be parking and riding the MetroRail.
So I was wondering if any of y'all (see I have learned something at Texas A&M) natives know of a good place to park so that I may hit up a (preferably Chiefs-friendly) bar or two on the way to catching the rail? Additionally, It would be awesome to find a Chiefs tailgate before going indoors. In which lot would I have the best chance to find one? I used to could (see... learning!) just walk around Arrowhead and find parties everywhere, but I'm sure it will be more of a challenge for me at Reliant. By the way, are there any MetroRail lots that are dedicated to gameday, which allow tailgating?

Some Thoughts...
If you’re riding the light rail, I’d suggest parking in either Midtown or Downtown. Unfortunately, no sports bars that are close to the rail spring immediately to mind. I’m also not aware of any lots near the rail that are dedicated to game day or tailgating; as a general rule, the only real tailgating you’ll find is at the lots of Reliant. To that end, I’d plan on catching the rail as early as possible so you can get to Reliant as quickly as possible. Lots there open at 8 a.m.
Zero clue as to whether any Chiefs tailgates will actually exist; my guess is that you’d have an infinitely easier time finding Texans tailgates that’d welcome you for the day.
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...
Thanks Tim,
One of my buddies is a Texans fan and will likely be sporting his #80. This should earn me a little trust among Texans tailgaters… right…?
Are full backpacks allowed on Rail and empty backpacks allowed in the stadium? Thinking of loading up on brews and using them as entry fees to tailgates.
I've been rapping for about seveteen years okay? I don't write my stuff anymore I just kick it from my head you know what I'm sayin? I can do that. No disrespect but that's how I am.
Re: Backpacks
I believe full backpacks are allowed on the rail; not sure about empty backpacks in Reliant. At the very least, I’d assume they’d want to search the backpack, like they do with purses for ladies.

I'm a fellow AP'er
Coming down for the game, I got a blue pass with my tix I bought online, and have seen parking passes going for around 25.
But if you take the rail, feel free to email me and swing by my tailgate, be good to have fellow Chiefs fans and AP’ers down there.
Chiefs fan here as well...
Will be going to my first NFL and Chiefs game ever this Sunday. Not sure if we are going to tailgate but we can hang out before the game if you want.

Herman Park
I always park in a lot at Herman Park off of Fannon. It’s the Rice U/Herman Park rail stop. I haven’t seen anyone checking bags on the rail, it’s used by fans and normal rail riders prior to the game so they don’t have stricter rules than normal.
You get dropped off next to the Astrodome and have to walk past it to get to Reliant. The lot on your left as your walking up will have multiple tailgators and I assume there will be at least one Chiefs group there. If not, you’ll probably have to walk to Yellow lot…which is on the opposite side of Reliant.
