Yesterday was as rough a day as I have ever experienced as a Texans fan. I actually started typing my goodbye letter to BRB and the world. My Sundays were going to be changed forever.... then they pulled me back in like they always do.
The 4th quarter was great (if you are a Texans fan) however there was way too much involvement by the referees throughout the entire game. I knew we were in trouble when at one point during the first quarter I heard Steve Tasker mutter faintly in the background "Ron Winters crews always call a lot of penalties." I'm sure that Mr. Winters and crew are happy with their performance. They got to make a lot of calls, most of them appearing to be accurate.
This morning I sprung out of bed looking for all of the love that my Texans worked so hard for and all I get is a collective "sports journalist" finger pointed at one call that essentially won the game for Houston and screwed Kansas City.
Obviously it was a catch and the penalty was declined making the call a non-issue, however Peter King, Chief fans and some of the other sports media keep harping on the game being won/lost on this single call. In Peter's case he finally realized that the penalty was declined and posted a link to the replay, therefore making his argument valid which is that "an official decided the game."
What he and Steve Tasker forgot to do was actually look at the replay closely which would have left them looking for answers instead of blaming referees. Watch this replay closely and ask yourself, where is Brandon Flowers' right arm as they reach the 37 yard line? It's nearly impossible to see from the replay angle however if your answer is.... in Andre Johnson's chest... you are correct. Flowers is throwing up an armbar and Andre is pushing him away as his cat-like reflexes cause him to do. The referee was in perfect position to see the armbar and threw his flag.
The bottom line... good call, great catch. Back to drawing board Chief fans and Chief loving media? Maybe you can find a missed leg whip or something to blame this loss on.
Where is Brandon Flowers' right arm as they reach the 37 yard line???
