Three Biggest Compliments and Complaints About the 2010 Houston Texans

Compliment 1: The running game has been very impressive this season. Foster and Ward are the one-two punch that this franchise has never had. Keep feeding them the football and keep this offense balanced. Help our defense with long drives that take time off the clock - run the football.

Complaint 1: Steve Slaton looks terrible as a kickoff return man. I haven't seen him do ANYTHING positive the entire season on kickoff returns. I understand that we want to keep Jacoby fresh and healthy, but starting drives inside the 20 instead of at the 30 or 40 yard line is killing our chances for offensive success. Put Jacoby back there (as was done some in the Chiefs game) and let him do his thing.

Compliment 2: This team is calm under pressure. I almost wanted to say that it does not quit, but the Giants game indicates otherwise. Regardless of how we might feel about the 24 quarters the Texans have played as a whole this season, four sets of four quarters (four games) have been favorable outcomes. Sure, the magnitude of our losses are greater than the magnitude of our wins. But we have more wins, and that is all that matters at the end of the day. The best part is, we FINALLY see this team winning the close games (every one so far). If we can win every close game, I don't mind if we get blown out once in a while. Seriously.

Complaint 2: We should have been more aggressive at bringing in talent throughout the offseason. There are a handful of DBs that could be on this team helping us out. There is one DE in particular who seems like a perfect fit in our defense (rushes the passer, familiar with coach and system, recent success, wants to win, good person), but we let him retire so that we could save a few million dollars in an UN-CAPPED season! How we let a solid DB and a potentially great DE slip through our fingers is beyond my comprehension.

Compliment 3: We beat the Colts. We beat them decisively. We did it with mediocre players on defense (at best) and we did it because we wanted the game more than Indy did. We know what it feels like to get up for a big game and take down a giant. Let's do it again.

Complaint 3: This team is being called SOFT... AGAIN. Have you ever watched a Texans game and heard an announcer say, "Wow, this Texans defense really knows how to tackle well." No. We have always been poor tacklers. How we cannot get this corrected after so many years is beyond me. Players slip through our fingers and break away from our grasp - or simply juke us out of our shoes - far too often. We don't play with very much defensive speed, so one would think that we would at least be able to tackle. Get this corrected, or we will not make the playoffs. Get this corrected. Get. This. Corrected. Now.
