Texans Work Out Nine Players...None of Them Are LBs
According to the National Football Post, the Texans are looking to add some LB help in place of the injured DeMeco Ryans. So, nine players worked out for the team today.
The only hitch is that none of them were LBs. Nope, five running backs (Javarris Williams, Alphonso Smith, Clifton Smith, Chris Jennings and Louis Rankin), Two quarterbacks (Tom Brandstater and Jonathan Crompton) and lastly....wait for it...two tight ends (Rob Myers and Derek Schouman)!
It would appear the team has lost all faith in Steve Slaton, so that explains the running backs. Kubiak keeps talking about how Matt Leinart is "pushing" Dan Orlovsky for the backup job, so the quarterbacks make some sense if Dan is about to get released. But more tight ends? Seriously?

that is their job
I’m sure they tried.
This just means they failed. But to assume they didn’t try is quite a stretch, given this FO.

They worked out offensive guys yesterday
They’re hosting defensive players today. I’m sure several will be LBs.

Just because they work out someone doesn't mean they are looking to sign them
A lot of the workouts are just to get a first hand view of a player as a just in case kind of thing. Every team works out players every week just to add to their scouting notes, so they they can have a plan in place as soon as an injury happens. If a couple of guys go down they already have a list of players ready to go. A lot of the street free agents don’t have much tape at this point so teams want to get a better feel for the kind of player they are in case they need to make a move in the future.

I share the love...
My goal is to make everyone as sick of seeing that .gif as I am of hearing about tight ends.
I get it… it’s all in good fun…
I don't see that happening anytime soon.
For me anyway. I think that is a funny .gif.
Just my $.02
Even duct tape can't fix stupid
Doesn't mean that they won't be converted to TE if they're signed though.

Three of them are running backs
Alphonso Smith is a CB
Clifton Smith is a LB

maybe not
i clicked on the guys names in the story and thats what came up
there was confusion yesterday about Alphonso
I remember seeing clarifiction that it was the RB and not the CB. I think someone got the first name wrong somewhere.

it appears they are all running backs
That makes total sense (not) why would we need a linebacker or cornerback
I hope we don't cut a QB during the season
Isn’t that just asking for our playbook to be on the market for any team who wishes to pick them up that is on our schedule
It takes a big man to cry, but it takes an even bigger man to laugh at that man.

Thats would be true if...
Orlovsky actually knew and understood the plays
Why are people freaking out about the workouts so much?
There are very few street free agents this time of year that you can legitimately expect to come in and save the day. Teams work out players every week. Most of these guys have very little NFL tape, so teams just want to fill out their scouting report in case they need to make a mover for future injuries. Who they worked out yesterday likely had as much to do with who’s available as anything. A majority of the players that NFL teams work out aren’t seriously being considered to be signed….at least not at that time. Every team works out players every weak.
We have a bye. Maybe they don’t like any of the LB’s available, and want to wait and see if someone gets cut next week. Whoever they sign to fill Demeco’s spot isn’t even likely to be active on gamedays initially anyway. If Bentley, Adibi, and Sharpton are healthy that gives us 5 LB’s. Same thing goes with DB’s. I’m sure we have worked out some previously and if they thought any of them would be an improvement they would sign them. We’re in no rush to sign anyone because of the bye.

This is true
but i really think they can find a safety that plays better than EWWW but apparently the Texans don’t think so cause didn’t he start again this last sunday
We already have one better
And his name is Troy Nolan. I wish they’d give him more snaps, the one time we played him this season he came away with two picks. While they were off of deflections, I’ve seen similar deflections this season that EWWWWW missed terribly.
I totally agree
I just can’t understand why ewwwww started again this last sunday
Don Banks ladies and Gents
There is a certain irony in Atlanta’s Dunta Robinson being fined $50,000 for his hit on Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson. Because when he was a Houston cornerback, many Texans fans claimed he really never shut down anyone’s No. 1 receiver.

That is pretty cool
Just one thing bothers me. The power rankings on that link.
We are one spot behind the BESF’s.
And it is still six weeks until we can kick their ass and show everyone we’re better than them.

Fined for a clean hit
Whatever you think of him – it really is not fair he got fined just because they didn’t both hop right up after-wards.

He was attacking with the crown of his helmet.
Although he initially hit the chest, then bounced up to the facemask, #23’s intention was to cause damage by driving the top of his head, with all his weight behind it, at the the opponents chest. Bad technique and not cool.
Two more words for you. Eric LeGrand.

Texans worked out a DT today
Louis Leonard, 6’4", 325 pounds. They worked out a planetoid DT?
I would challenge you to a battle of wits, but you appear to be unarmed.
the hell
They also worked out the strong man tank Tyler who played with Mario at N.C. State. Ill take Tank.
