I've been trying to gather some data this week on all the games of the last 4 seasons under Kubiak for a fanblog that will hopefully provide some evidence for why I'm so stressed out all the time watching the Texans play football.
But I just now stumbled upon a factoid that I couldn't pass up passing along to brighten up everyone's Wednesday afternoon.
By my count we've trailed by 14 points or more in 6 of our 9 games this year. Ugly. Amazingly we've actually won 2 of those games but still, that's bad. Surprisingly -- or maybe not -- we're on pace to shatter such counts from Kubiak's previous 3 seasons (note: I hadn't looked back to 2006 because I was keying on our seasons of mediocrity and thought that year would throw things off too much). In 2009 we had 6 games over the entire season (and won 2 while nearly coming back in several others), in 2008 we had only 5, and in 2007 we still had just 7 (winning 1).
I wonder if Kubiak has a clause in his contract that pays him bonuses for large comeback victories. Are the players maybe trying to erase the demons of that Buffalo collapse from the collective minds of Houston sports fans by establishing a new largest-deficit-overcome record? Your guess is as good as mine.
