Calling out the D-Line

Oh, there are other people I'd love to call out (particularly the coaches for not running Foster/Ward enough) or Jacoby Jones (but that's like beating a dead horse these days)...hell, I can't rip on Steve Slaton for last night either...

So I'm going to call out the most disappointing unit on the Texans: the Defensive Line.

When you have 2 guys who were top 10 picks, you have to be producing better than these guys have shown so far.  Mario Williams, you were a #1 overall, yet sometimes you look like just a guy really.  Jon Gruden said something insightful last night when he said Mario plays the run pretty well...well, isn't that what our LEFT END is supposed to be there for.  Mario can also rush the passer, so put him out there against the lesser RT's of the world and let him go to work.

I didn't hear Shaun Cody's name at all last night.  Was he even playing?

Now for Amobi Okoye...oh, where do I start?  He's been nothing but a BUST since coming into the league.  When he came out with that line about playing hard at one point, I was like...'YOU HAVE TO PLAY HARD ALL GAME LONG.'  Did you guys see Freeney and Mathis last night?  All game long, they were going and going and going.  You have to press, you have to attack.

Poor Antonio Smith wishes he was back in Arizona I bet, b/c this team's DL just is killing me.  And yes, I can rip on Smith too, because he's not been half as impactful as I thought he'd be.  Still, he's been more consistent at times than the rest of the line.

If you want to see the Texans in the playoffs this year, that defensive line has to STEP IT UP.  The young secondary looks a bit better now, and Cushing should be solid at MLB for the rest of the year.  It starts with the line.  No pressure = no playoffs.
