Mark Berman: Andre Johnson Fined, Not Suspended

You'd get pissed, too, if Andre kept owning you.

According to Mark Berman.

Let's not treat this as official, yet, but we'll (including you, oh faithful readers) verify as soon as we hear directly from the league.

I just hope Berman isn't using Pancakes as source material after the latter's error earlier this morning.

h/t AllenOU, who sadly only posted this one once.

Update: Via Rivers, Jason La Canfora confirms?  I hope.

UPDATE II: Both 'Dre and Innegan fined $25,000.00, but neither will be suspended.

He would of had 5 by now if..

Garcon didn’t punch it outta his hands in the first indy game, and if he intercepted the “Q-Tip”. Probably a bit more because I have seen him drop a few.

by fgp on Nov 29, 2010 2:03 PM CST up reply actions

I trust Berman...

he’s the best in Houston, as far as scoops go.

It makes sense in multiple ways. Andre Johnson has a great reputation and was provoked. He apologized as well.

Also, Houston’s short week means that the Texans would only have a day or two to adjust without Andre…which would be a bit unfair from a game standpoint as well.

In either case, it’s good news if true.

Self-pats on the back

Mort just said that the Thursday game played a role in it because of the competitive disadvantage that it would provide Houston for a lack of time to adjust without Johnson.

plus

This story went viral immediately. The amount of publicity for Thur’s game is off the chart…..no way the league misses on that cash cow by putting a weaker product on the screen.

Everyone (including most of us probably) thinks it’s a foregone conclusion that we’ll lose, but we’re almost guaranteed if Dre doesn’t play.

Imagine what happens now if we actually pull it off.

Hahahaha

This is just the icing on the cake. Andre punks Innegan and only gets fined. Even the league was happy to see that jackass get what he deserves.

I don’t think AJ will make a difference Thursday, but I just like that AJ did what he did and didn’t get suspended for it.

by HTown4Eva on Nov 29, 2010 1:41 PM CST reply actions

$10 says

Goodell was happy to see Innegan get what was coming to him, too. And now that other players know what the cost is for a beat-down, some might be willing to pay the fee.

New York Giants CB said he was happy to see AJ give Cortland what he deserved and that Cortland had it coming. It makes me giddy seeing these players on other teams supporting AJ being outspoken about it.

They were teammates at U of Miami and are friends off the field and Rolle said he’s never seen AJ act like that in any setting.

I didn't say a word

To echo what others are saying…it was nice to see Cushing back to his role that we grew accustomed to last season. Good to see an opposing player who was destined to have his turn at a career day, fail. I think we were all surprised to see AJ snap like that, but I think we all know why. Finnegan is the league’s dirtiest player and he outdid his bad reputation leading up to his submission. Goodell is not all bad and probably saw what we did. We are all holding our breath on the D and hoping they can gain some confidence even though it was a handicapped opponent. But, didn’t CJ2K looks like CJ-2 yesterday?

Love the optimism

I think the run defense improved against the Jets, with Cushing in better form. And I hope yesterday’s game carries over too but I’m not counting anything in that game as gospel because of Rusty.

But the pass defense hasn’t shown me enough improvement to be believers in them yet.

by riversmccown on Nov 29, 2010 3:03 PM CST up reply actions

IF the pass defense is even mediocre...

And our run defense plays at mediocre or above it is a significantly improved defense. I think it’s entirely possible for them to be at that point. Pollard is still a liability in coverage and worries me more and more, as does Wilson…

Anybody have the numbers (or will you have them rmc) on how many plays EW was in for?

by Fuzion on Nov 29, 2010 3:07 PM CST up reply actions

no way

Vick will have all of our secondary twisted in knots trying to cover running lanes. It’ll take an extra special from our secondary, or better yet our D-line, to beat the Eagles.

Speaking of D-line play, that was one of the best interior line jobs I’ve seen from our group so far, especially Okoye. He was directly responsible for two tackles for loss on CJ……one he wrapped him up single-handed, and the other he tripped him up and made him run smack into Cush.

If we get that same type of game changing performance from Amobi again we might have a chance to run Vick into Cush, Mario, Pollard, et al.

Problem is, that was more likely just a flash of the Okoye we thought we drafted and he’ll be largely ineffective.

I'm torn on this

If he is only fined, I’m happy for my team. We need all the help we can get right now. We can be happy we won, but we still faced a rookie QB who was thrown to the wolves. As an NFL fan, if this were two other teams, I would want both suspended for one game each. Maybe three games if someone else had Finn’s past record this year (and considering he’s been warned this year). The thing that gets me is that SIR allowed Finn to get into his head at all. I know you can only take so much, but it’s football. You can say he was just being a man and all, but he’s still an NFL player and has a higher standard than others he has to follow, and I’m a bit disappointed that it had to come to swinging fists. Lots of fights break out all season in football, but usually the worst it gets is a lot of pushing and shoving, and NFL players demonstrating they know nothing at all about the human reproductive system.

and both teams end up 9-7 overall and 4-2 in the division, who wins the tie breaker?

So..

you’re telling me there’s a chance.

by UHdustin on Nov 29, 2010 4:20 PM CST up reply actions   2 recs

It gets really ugly for us if that happens

because Colts lost to us by 10, then beat us by 13 so they win the head to head by 3 points. They would win the division and we’d be praying for a wild card spot.

Actually...

according to wkittinger’s tie breaking procedures, the only thing that matters in head to head is the won-loss-tie percentage which would be 1-1. So it would come down to common games and if they lose to both the cowboys and raiders then I believe we would win the tie breaker because of our win over Oakland! I think, I may be wrong.

point spread

Doesn’t come in to play.

1. W-L head to head
2. W-L in division
3. Common opponents

I think in the scenarios where we catch both Indy and Jax, we end up winning the common opponents.

Our offense could put up 35 points

and take it out of the defenses hands. Sorry its not exactly false hope when we have gone to the wire against the jets and chargers over the last month, there is an actual chance for us to win any game we play.

agreed

plus, i think vick was exposed the last two weeks – theres a way to beat him: take out the deep ball, pressure him cuz their OL is shaky, and force him to make quick, accurate strikes (he cant). obviously thats easier said than done for our defense, but the blueprint is there.

also, never underestimate that a) schaub plays much better on the road, b) samuel may miss the game again (great for AJ), c) you can run easily on philly, d) andy reids late game decisions baffle even gary kubiak..

that being said, theres a lot of dangerous talent on that team – looking forward to it. just want the texans to show up like they did this week. last week felt like the seattle game did last yr. thorough beating to get the team on track.

1. Which part of that do you see our defense doing?

and

2. While being “exposed” the last two weeks, the Eagles have put up a total of 53 points against the Giants and Bears……Which of those defenses do you see us being remotely close to emulating?

While I hope the defense shows up, there is nothing to indicate that it will. Certainly not beating “Rusty Smith” or whatever his name was.

For me it’s not false hope, merely a possibility. We’ve taken several teams the distance, including a conference contender.

Factor in a documented pattern of better play in December and it makes the possibility of a strong finish even more possible……is that possible?

I'm a man!! I'm forty!!

by Hydroshock on Nov 29, 2010 7:58 PM CST up reply actions

Agreed.

This Philly team isn’t any better than the Jets. They can be run on more so than Tennessee and New York, and they give up a ton of TDs through the air. Vick is also fairly sackable. He has a habit of dropping back a long way, which is right in Mario’s wheelhouse.

Gotta be a more balanced effort than last week, though. Their defense gives up plenty of points to good offenses. Time to prove that we’ve got one of those; I put that on Schaub. We need another KC-like game from him (for for more than one quarter).

I'm pleased.

Finnegan got what he deserved if you consider this a buildup of all of the dirty stuff he pulls on a regular basis. I think Goodell is tired of Finnegan thumbing his nose at the league with his dirty play. Plus I’m sure they checked out the tape to see a lot of those jams that Cort was pulling throughout the game. Why is Dre getting jammed if it’s a run to the other side of the field? Why can’t Finnegan seem to aim his jams somewhere besides Dre’s head, neck, and face? That sort of thing, there’s no way to police it, I guess the NFL just has to hope that more guys play the game the right way.

If illegal hits to the head are costing $50K - $75K per

Then AJ’s hit must have only been partially illegal, with only a $25K fine.

I was actually hoping to see Innegan get suspended, since he is constantly doing this crap.

My only hope, we run a screen to Innegan’s side of the field, and one of the guards puts a block on him, squashing him flat. You all know he is going to try and start stuff again with AJ when we are in their house – he knows he gets under ’Dre’s skin. And – if this happens again I’m sure the punishment will get worse.

You know what's coming up in 3 weeks?

The rematch. Here’s what I see happening…

Andre Johnson wants to shut Innegan up for good, and goes apeshit on his ass. Dre lays down at least 150 yards receiving and 3 TDs, and also lays the key block Hines Ward style on Innegan to break Foster free for a 60+ yard TD.

Mark it.

12/19
-Andre breaks the single game receiving TD record.
-Innegan also tears an ovary ACL while AJ jukes him out on the record breaking TD.
