Texans Place Williams, Anderson, And Brisiel On Injured Reserve
The Texans made the smart move and placed hurting DE Mario Williams (sports hernia) on injured reserve to make room for DE Jarvis Green.
One more roster spot were opened as WR David Anderson and OG Mike Brisiel were also placed on IR with shoulder injuries. The Texans had signed DT DeMario Pressley earlier this week.
A possible beneficiary of this? WR Dorin Dickerson, who may see snaps at receiver in place of Anderson.

I know that he has a learning curve to get through, but it’ll be nice to see some meaningful snaps for DD.
If the Treasury Secretary doesn't have to pay taxes, then why do I?
Yes sir
Jacoby’s a free agent after the season. Seeing Dorin’s progress would be a nice step in determining if they should make an offer to Jones.

Dorin excited me in preseason

Intewresting.
Jacoby has a lot of upside, but this hasn’t been a good year for him compared to last year. I expect neither he or Slaton will be with this team next year.
And they’ll probably both find a way to excel elsewhere and make us look stupid.

I felt like this year was Jacoby's chance
with OUR team at least. We gave him plenty of snaps ADN targets at WR and I personally think we should let someone else overpay for him and we go after a KNOCKOUT return guy in the draft/FA and let DD have his shot @ JJ’s spot

Perhaps this year he'll actually be able to catch a punt in preseason
That’d be a start.

I've already written Holliday off
Dorin Dickerson, that’s different. He’s already given us a taste of what he can do. Has hands, has size, can run fast. See Dorin run.

Slaton is still under contract for cheap
So I see him still being there as the 3rd back.
Choo Choo! Get on board the Marvin Lewis train for 2011 Defensive Coordinator.
For me, the jury is still out
We don’t know how Jeremiah Johnson will come back…. and Ben Tate, too!!! Can’t forget about him. With Foster, Ward Tate and Johnson….that may leave Stevie Wonder on the outside looking in. He has been totally ineffective at returns. He is the shadow of the old Slaton coming out of the backfield. I am not even considering how much he makes. These other four guys have more upside right now, to me. The only thing in his favor is that starting out next season, Johnson and Tate may still be on the road to recovery and not able to be active right away. When they come back, I think Slaton moves down a rung.
I didn't do anything wrong!.... and, I won't do it again.

Johnson signed elswhere
"The trouble with programmers is that you can never tell what a programmer is doing until it’s too late."
Yep, I see Jeremiah has made the rounds after the Texans gave him and injury settlement
So, Slaton still has an uphill battle if he wants to be #3 in the pecking order.
I didn't do anything wrong!.... and, I won't do it again.

I think so
Slaton is the odd guy out imo. I mean, wtf has he done lately?? Not a damn thing.
I'm a man!! I'm forty!!
Ward
was on a 1 year deal, he will sign elsewhere for more money.
Choo Choo! Get on board the Marvin Lewis train for 2011 Defensive Coordinator.
Assuming someone wants to pay him more for his services
I can see it both ways. Ward got his payday with the Bucs and it was a disaster, so most teams will probably shy away from giving him significant money.
With all of the RB’s out there someone would have to be hard pressed to want him as a starter, so common sense dictates he’ll more than likely have to sign as a back up again, and work his way into a starting role.
That being said, he probably won’t want to return here due to the fact that Tate will be the De facto back up to Foster, assuming his rehab is going as scheduled.
Personally I think you can never have too much quality depth at RB so I would like to see Ward return and Slaton go elsewhere, but the more I think about the salary situation you’re probably right.
I'm a man!! I'm forty!!
Ward is getting up in age for a RB to demand a big salary
Sure, he isn’t without his value. But, he is no longer a #1 RB. With all the young RBs coming out and going in the low rounds even, why does a team need to empty the bank for a #2 guy?
I didn't do anything wrong!.... and, I won't do it again.
Send Vonta Leach to the Beach! http://www.nfl.com/probowl/ballot?
Exactly
Which is why I kinda hope he sees things in a similar light and decides to stay, but I doubt it.
Ward has a good situation here if Gary sticks with his usual M.O. He doesn’t just bump RB’s down on the depth chart if they’re still producing. I think Tate will still have to prove himself and force him to move Ward down (assuming he were still here). Ward could possibly force the kid to stay on the sideline and wait for an injury opportunity.
Out of all 3 I think Slaton is the most expendable. He hasn’t done shit in forever and I personally think he’s lost whatever edge he had. Maybe he can reclaim it somewhere else but as long as Foster can lace ‘em up, we’ve got our stud.
With that said, assuming Ward leaves in free agency I think Slaton can be serviceable, but it’s probably going to be in a Julius Jones type way.
I'm a man!! I'm forty!!
Don't count on it...
Both of these two inconsistent bozos may end up somewhere but neither will do well. that is unless they go to the AFC west or NFC West… where just about anyone can do decent….
Doin stuff so nasty that you have to do it twice to confirm the level of nasty!!
AFC West

He's not leaving.
The real option on that list is Champ Bailey. No way he’s sticking around Denver.
why do you think this?
They will have a new coach and he has arguably overtaken Chris Gamble as their #1 Corner. He has leverage.

Good move to protect the players' health.
I’d like to see Leinart get some time in live games too. Just to fetter out if he’s a keeper and if he should move up the ladder a notch.
Uncomfortably numb......thanks to the Texans
Doubt that happens
Gary’s coaching for his job, so as long as Matt is healthy he’ll play every snap for the rest of the season. The only way Leinart sees the field is either a blowout win, or……you know.

Mario was really struggling last time out
Shutting him down is the right thing to do considering our playoff chances. I’ll be interested to see Dickerson. Honestly, I’m annoyed that it took so long before DA started getting some looks in third down packages.
I was going to say that from here on out that Nolan and Williams should get the starts at safety to see what we have, if anything. Then I remembered that Tori Williams is on IR.

This is a good thing
We’re not makin the playoffs and Mario hurting. Good to see our team know when the season is over.
You are such a good friend that if you and me were the last two people trapped on a sinking boat with only 1 life vest left, i would remember and pray for you every day.
Hopefully some time next season we can FINALLY have a healthy Mario
I don’t think he has been 100% healthy in a long time. Yet, who has in the NFL?

I don’t post often, but I can’t help myself and have to ask…it’s shorter than what…the erect penis, or shorter than the story? And where does the “mole” come in to play??? (Pun not intended, but hey…)
It's a true story, whereas, MDC's story about penis moles is an actual experience

Not having Briesel might suck
or Caldwell could step up.
"The trouble with programmers is that you can never tell what a programmer is doing until it’s too late."
This is the real issue.
The offensive line (particularly the interior) has been stellar. Mario… Not so much. Hopefully Caldwell can step in and not jeopardize Arian’s rushing title.
reality doesn't agree with you on mario

"The trouble with programmers is that you can never tell what a programmer is doing until it’s too late."
I knew that was going to get linked.
Hence why I said “particularly of late”. Show me the splits. He was exceptional in the first two games of the season (five QB hits + two half-sacks in the first game alone). Since then, not so much. It became very evident in the Philly game that he’s ailing too much to be our best option at DE.
Antonio Smith said something to similar effect today
That Mario definitely didn’t look the same Monday night and you knew it was getting worse.
"Lord, beer me strength."
And it's the truth....
You can only play with injury so long before it gets you. Man deserves to be commended for toughing it out and doing his part to try and get Houston to the playoffs. That’s a team-first player right there.
"Lord, beer me strength."
Yup. Mario is kind of like Andre
in that he’s not a “me first” type of player. I admire that about him.
Yep
Mario is like that soldier next to you chugging through the slop fast at your side racing to the egress point when you notice a distinct whistle on ever other step. Team leader yells back; “hey cut the whistling! we’re going ghost”
You look over and see him shoving a finger into his rib cage to block a sucking chest wound without so much as a single complaint.
Uncomfortably numb......thanks to the Texans
Can anyone confirm this?
A friend of mine told me he heard a rumor on ESPN that Bill Cohwer is coming to Texas, and it won’t be to visit Dallas. Anyone hear this as well. He said he heard it Sunday.

Get all hurt players out for the year to get them healthy for next year.
Andre is a huge piece to the puzzle and he should rest for the rest of the year. I hope that Demeco is progressing for next year because we will need him. Please sign Pollard! I know that his pass defense is suspect, but he is a leader and the next d coordinator needs to utilize him to his strengths. There will be plenty of coaches to choose from next year so I hope that Kubiak is gone. He has had his chance and I don’t believe this team will go anywhere with him. Just look at the first half of almost every game this year. Pitiful!!!! I’m tired of losing guys, but if they lose out maybe they can get a very good draft pick. Hopefully, Smith is fired also.
Dear Santa,
Here is a list of things I deserve this year for Christmas because I have been a good loyal Texans fan like Uncle Bob says I should:
- Coupon books in the seats at reliant with coupons that are not already expired
- New music selection at reliant. Maybe uncle Bob needs an ipod? No Yanni.
- Peace between AJ and innegan the grinch. Andre totally won though.
- Good field position.
- Let Eric Winston trade reps with a tackling dummy because I think he gets really tired.
- Just ONE Jim Mora-style rant by Uncle Gary when asked by Pancakes if this decision means the Texans have given up on the playoffs.
Thanks in advance Santa. I believe in you. So does Uncle Gary.

rec'd!
Great list!
Those coupon books just clutter up the place, and get in the way of placing my first drink into the cup holder
I like the rant on Pancakes idea. Maybe Gary could have Toro standing next to him and anytime Pancakes even starts his nasal exhaust in preparation to talk, Toro can fire the t-shirt gun at his face from 5 feet away.
In fact, do this, post the full video on the Texans site and I’ll renew my PSL contract for 10 years!
Uncomfortably numb......thanks to the Texans
Lol that's not a bad idea about Toro...
Maybe next time I see him at Pappa’s burgers I’ll slip him a 20 to “adjust his trajectory”

DORIN DICKERSON, everybody!
Huh? How bout that! Can we see him at least get his first NFL reception this week? I think we all see some of AJ in him, am I speaking out of turn? He has size, hands and speed. We want to see him in action. Yes, we’ll miss AJ, but isn’t it DD’s job to make us not worry about it while AJ recovers? Don’t we want another big, fast WR that can make CBs fall like bowling pins?
